Clinton Friend McAuliffe: Clinton Will Flip on TPP
We've been saying for a very long time now that Hillary's opposition to the TPP is largely bullshit. She urged her delegates to oppose anti-TPP language in the party platform. She picked pro-TPP Tim Kaine as her VP. And now longtime Clinton friend Terry McAuliffe may have accidentally let the truth slip out:
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, longtime best friend to the Clintons, said Tuesday that he believes Hillary Clinton will support the TPP trade deal if elected president, with some tweaks.
“I worry that if we don’t do TPP, at some point China’s going to break the rules -- but Hillary understands this,” he said in an interview after his speech on the main stage at the Democratic National Convention. “Once the election’s over, and we sit down on trade, people understand a couple things we want to fix on it but going forward we got to build a global economy.”
Story Continued BelowPressed on whether Clinton would turn around and support the trade deal she opposed during the heat of the primary fight against Bernie Sanders, McAuliffe said: “Yes. Listen, she was in support of it. There were specific things in it she wants fixed.”
The Clinton campaign was pretty quick to come out and say that this was absolutely not true and that Hillary is against the TPP now and would still be after the election. But here's the problem--she can SAY whatever she wants. But she lacks serious credibility on this issue and this is a major problem. Trump's biggest wedge issue across the Rust Belt is trade. He's full of shit on trade, too, since he outsources almost all the work his companies do. But there's a hope among many here that he might do something different.
This also doesn't help bring any Bernie or Bust folks back into the fold for sure.

You can't trust anything Hillary says. This is why making deals with her is worthless. She has absolutely no honor and will blatantly lie to your face to get what she wants. Her credibility with Bernie supporters is worse than her favorability, in that it's past nonexistent. It's in negative territory.
I would be shocked if this came as a surprise to anyone, even her own supporters. They know what kind of a person she is and they're choosing to vote for her anyway.

I'm honestly horrified at the idea of Clinton in office because of 1996 precedent. She and her husband were instrumental in creating the Media we have that repaid her in full this election. I fully expect her to attempt to increase their influence at the expense of their competition.
I.e. I expect Communications Decency Act, II. This time with a Supreme Court she stacked to ensure it's found constitutional.
People say you gotta vote Clinton because of the SCOTUS, I say you CAN'T Vote Clinton... because of the SCOTUS.

This is all a very carefully scripted ballet. First fast track assures that there are no changes, it is up or down.
But none of this matters as the fix is in and they will magically pass it in the lame duck
It just struck me how important TPP is this election
There's a meme-GIF going around that says "I don't see it as voting for Clinton. I see it as voting for the EPA, the Clean Air Act … etc." Hillary's campaign is based on the preservation of existing liberal / progressive programs. But just about the only program that she would introduce that would have a significant impact on the American economy is the TPP.
For all of you Venn diagram fans, let's start with one premise. We know that Donald Trump will not sign a TPP. If there's anything to his economic plan, it's to end trade agreements and impose tariffs. That's the tune that this pied piper began his march with.
The only possibility for a TPP lies with the Democratic candidate. Do you think that maybe there's a lobbyist or two with an interest in the TPP? Or maybe a more powerful structure? Hell, this one issue could be why Bernie was squeezed out.
And the last circle is this: Candidates in favor of the TPP. Cannot be empty.
This is Hillary's achilles' heel, and if Jill gets on stage with her she should ask her about it point blank.

Thanks for your comment over there as well. I'm really concerned about how much of our political discourse is being funneled into echo chambers as opposition voices get shouted down. Doesn't help if we're all preaching to various choirs that already agree with us.
