My Conversation with Markos regarding his Lack of Cred with Bernie Supporters. .
So Kos wants to advise Bernie and his supporters how to help down ballot candidates.Bernie did not do it well enough and Kos has advice.
I say this.
TomP May 02 · 03:54:52 PM
Why would Bernie supporters listen to you? What a useless post.
A front pager jumps to attack:
David Nir TomP May 02 · 04:06:54 PM
So Bernie Sanders shouldn’t support downballot candidates because Markos suggested he do so?Reply 11 Flag
TomP kos May 02 · 04:20:33 PM
And Kos does his little tantrum:
kos TomP May 02 · 04:09:38 PM
I thought you guys wanted a more progressive Democratic Party. I guess I was wrong. So that’s right! Don’t support downballot progressives! Don’t build a bench! Don’t look toward building the party from the bottom up! Just be bitter and angry and then let history repeat itself in eight years because you didn’t feel that doing the hard work of building a truly broad-based movement was useful.
I’m sure that’ll turn out well.
And I respond:
I just think you have no credibility with Bernie supporters, Kos. None.
It’s not about your content.
I never said I would not support down ballot Dems. Those are all strawman arguments that you throw out at me. They really are disingenuous on your part and a bit of a temper tantrum.
You. Lack. Credibility. With. Bernie. Supporters.
That was my only point.
You can have a tantrum, but many folks are not listening to you anymore.
You made this.
The entire thread is here: http://www.dailykos.com/comments/1522373/61344166#comment_61344598
Of course, the Clinton supporters attack me with lots of insults. I'm "unhinged."
Kos and the front pagers don't get it.
Bernie supporters do not listen to them.
They are stuck with the Hillary supporters. Rah, rah team!
The funny thing is, I will vote for Hillary. Don't like it, but will.
But why would any Bernie supporter listen to Kos or the front pagers there?
Young folks are the base of the Bernie movement.
And I will follow their lead, and I sure won't know it hanging out at Daily Kos.

But on the internet,
they cannot really hurt me. Oh sure, they want to, but it's just words on a screen.
I'm 60, lived a life, have plenty to go. I know who I am, my good and bad points, and they cannot hurt me.
I am mostly detached from them. I play with them when they insult me.
In 2007, when I was doing pro-Edwards stuff, I was shocked at the hate I got. Over time, I just stopped caring.
The hate often is not political as much as it is the person insulting. People use these blogs to vent or play out things.
But you describe it well.
I'm not worried about you, Tom
You'll be fine. I'm just naming 'em and shaming 'em.
All those people over there thinking they are heros for supporting this crap, they are pretty sad, though.
Stay on track. Stay in lane. Don't throw rocks.
Yes sir, you do 'play with them'.
I find your work there often to be ego driven self amusement that is highly entertaining for a very great many of us.
When you insult someone and only 3 of 10 readers understand that you did so, the ego is justified and the 3 are laughing their asses off.
Keep up the good work!

You are a stronger person than I, TomP
I would get so angry that I would be just gritting my teeth and yelling at my computer sometimes. I admire that you can manage to keep the nastiness, condescension from idiots and the outright lying from getting to you. Good for you!
I thought I'd miss leaving, but the day I signed off for good is the day I realized what a weight it had been putting on me.
I'm too sensitive to have unnecessary negativity in my life.
Bernie or Bust
Sorry but I will NEVER vote for Hillary. I don't vote for warhawks or Republicans. No. Fucking. Way.
I'm sick of both parties. One fucks you over while they laugh in your face, the other fucks you over while laughing behind your back. I'm through with R or D. It's time for US.
Here's an email I got from one of the FEW Democrats I will bother with. Merkley.

Ok with me. Each makes his or her own choice.
Take care.
I'm not trying to convert people. Just was an aside in my post.
Oh no worries, I wasn't coming out swinging :)
I really do appreciate your voice and ideas.
I simply can not and will not vote for Hillary. I once bird dogged her as a war hawk during a codepink campaign. We did Cheney and Clinton. Rice, even.

Great work with Code Pink!
Thank you for what you did and are doing.
Thanks TomP
CodePink was another thing Markos apparently didn't approve of. I met a fellow CodePinker-Kossack in DC at a anti-war protest Lead Kos didn't approve of either.
I was over Kos a long time ago. I stuck around because of the community. I had to leave because the community crumbled.
"Love One Another" ~ George Harrison
Kos never approved of
activism. He is limited to electoral politics.
Code Pink criticized Dems also. Thus, he disapproved.
crumbled?
The community didn't crumble.
The worthwhile part of it, anyway -- it moved here!

Tom focus your time on something better- grow the future
KOS is in the past and you can not reason with them or even have a good time there. So come on over here and hang out with people that enjoy and respect your opinions and writings (include me). Stop wasting your time, it is too value and precious thing to give away.
For example, I do not agree with your decision to vote for Clinton, but I do not yell or jump on you about it. It is your decision, and I respect it. That is what is important about this community, we can agree to disagree and have good discussions while trying to reason and understand with each other. Sometimes that will not be easy to do, but at least you have the opportunity to provide your voice to the community.
You make a lot of sense.
Thanks. Something to think about.
Lets not get crazy about me making sense
I just point out the facts and what is real. Remember it is all good and things work out for a reason. I just hate the fact you give them so much and they give you nothing in return. Here you are welcomed and treasured, so kick back and help us kick some butt
The Clinton one is tough for me.
I was involved in the Nader campaign at a very low level in 2000. Went to the Denver convention.
What is nice here is that there is dialogue.
It's too early to put too much worry into it yet,
if you've already voted in the primary.
When November comes there will be worry enough.
Minds may change in November.

Good to see you TomP...
I don't go over to top at all. Just signed up here and love the focus. It doesn't help Bernie to support that site so no reason to go. I'm a born Dem. but, if Bernie does not get nom I will be leaving Dem party and going Independent. I don't share values with Dem party anymore, actually they left me a long time ago.
Hope to see more of you here.
Good to see you here.
Thanks.
Do y'think kos has watched Bernie's presser from yesterday?
Do you think he believes Bernie is correct about the delegate count and superdelegates, or that there will almost certainly be a contested convention in Philly?
http://www.c-span.org/video/?408915-1/bernie-sanders-holds-news-conferen...
I've only watched this three times (math was never my strong point; I can do math, but I don't think in numbers), and each time I hear/see something more intriguing about it.
"I wonder how _____ (name of pundit, pollster, "news" person, etc.) is going to react to a contested Democratic Convention?" More importantly, "How will Hillary react to a contested convention?"
"I wonder what will happen if the delegates and superdelegates do not go along wit the will of the people in each of their states and cast their votes for Bernie Sanders? Or are they going to vote against the wishes of the hoi polloi and force their candidate down everyone's throat?"
Inquiring minds really, really, REALLY want to know! Minnesota has only three supers who have endorsed Bernie (one is my Rep); one has 'None' in the endorsed column, and all the rest endorsed Hillary before or just after the DNC Summer Meeting in Mpls last Aug. Bernie won the MN caucus by a large margin (large enough for Bernie to mention it). And WHY did some states give their delegates to Hillary even though Bernie won their states rather handily? How fucking rude!!!
I do not accept that Hillary "must" be the Dem candidate "because it's her turn since she lost to Obama in '08, she earned it (How?), she deserves it (Why?), and it's about time we had a female president (True, but no one is talking like that about Carly Fiorina, and no one talked about that when the Tundra Tramp was the VP pick in '08 - it takes more than having two X chromosomes to justify voting for a woman). No sane person would vote for a woman "just because she is a woman."
Just accept the fact that not that many people like or trust Hillary because she's a warmongering DINO who will once again promote TPP and get us involved in more unconstitutional, unjustified, and illegal wars we still can't afford, who will keep our medical insurance and care under corporate control, who would give our Social Security to Wall Street - privatize Soc Sec to "protect" it). The majority of people just do not want Hillary as president (almost any other qualified woman who has a political platform like Bernie's would be acceptable, just NOT Hillary who will revert back to her DINO status immediately if she's nominated and/or elected somehow). Closed primary states who denied Indys and R's the right to cross-vote for Bernie, and delegates have been given to Hillary even though Bernie has won the popular vote in some states are the only reasons Bernie "lost" in those cases (those states really ought to think about not listing political affiliation in their voting registration forms).
In the general election, I would fully expect Bernie to win in a landslide. Brainwashing does not necessarily work when it comes to trying to force people to vote for Hillary.

I am one of those people who grew up with little to no accent... perhaps a bit of a Kansas "twang" but all in all, rather bland. In college I learned an Irish accent for a play, and as I have moved around the US and then moved here to Canada, and have made many friends from the British Isles, and still others from New Zealand and Australia, I have picked up all kinds of little quirks in my speech.
It is not unlikely to hear me use a thick Southern "y'all" followed by Canadian "eh"? My Southern friends think I sound like a Yankee...and my Northern friends think I sound like I come from the Deep South....Sure keeps people on their toes!

Markos lacks credibility with Progressives
not just with Bernie supporters.
To me, the two are synomous, but I get your point
I really don't understand --
why anyone who knew the facts would vote for Hillary Clinton.
To quote Doug Henwood, in summary, again:
The flesh-and-blood Hillary Clinton goes from being on the board at union-busting Wal-Mart, to being the First Lady who tried to screw us over in health insurance and screwed it up through her penchant for secrecy, to being the First Lady who made a speech about "superpredators" and campaigned for the Welfare Bill and stuck with her racist dogwhistles and anti-poor stances in 2008, to being the Secretary of State who screwed Honduras and Haiti and Libya and Syria while designing the TPP, to Servergate and her "Foundation" slush fund and her fraud-filled campaign.
She'll be like a Republican, except MORE EFFECTIVE because y'all Democrats will be making excuses or at least believing other people's excuses for what she's been doing. Why not allow a Republican in the White House? Clinton's appointment of anyone decent to the Supreme Court is NOT guaranteed, not by a long shot, and she's likely to give you Republican policies with far greater effectiveness than that buffoon Trump. She's intelligent, to be sure -- but intelligent in a way that hurts you and me. A lot.
Maybe Sanders will endorse Clinton, I don't know. If he does, we'll all be looking for another political revolution. Tribalism is like eating things that cause you heartburn -- it's the habit you like that doesn't like you.

The Bernie Movement plus raising healthcare. chained CPI, and other financial hardships the establishment had pulled on me, I got involved. .....
I have "homework" today from work. Truly, my boss came up to me and handed me a pre-rolled 1g joint from a possible new vendor and said, "I want to know what you think of this, take it home and enjoy". Sounds great right? Because it is. But it's also wicked bizarre. Sounds easy. But it's more complicated than just an answer of "hey boss, that joint was good." I mean, there's paperwork involved. 18 questions ranging from how do you feel about the high it provided. what you were doing at the time and what it did for you -- down to how it's packaged. Body, Mind, Mood, Medicinal and Pricing. It's like wine tasting with marketing thrown into it but without the spitting. That's a lot to think about sometimes. At least you start off with good intentions to complete the questionnaire and stay focused...this one is very hard to stay focused on.
It's called Jesus OG. ( I said things get weird at work)

and it's although it's a fun job.... it's also very sobering.
I happen to work at a real medical dispensary with very loyal and wonderful patients. We also sell to recreational so it's a busy day. Lots of explaining and sharing. Sometime there's tears. The other day, there were cops... nothing business-wise, we were helping with an investigation to a road rage incident in front. But still.. tense.
I just quit my job of ten years to support this business. My son and myself are medical. I take an ECO and my son takes tincture. I also don't drink much so my recreational drug is marijuana.
It's pretty fascinating the people you meet and the stories you hear.
I don't make much money as last job. But I feel better about myself and it's something I'm quite passionate about.
I never thought marijuana was illegal because it made you high. I think it was banned because it could help so many heal from so many ailments.

Look at the Rec List at this moment. Yeah, there are like 3 pro-Bernie diaries. But the rest includes gems like these, filled with vitriol, puerile put downs, simplistic talking points, gloating, charges of sore-loserism as a response to just about everything that isn't pro-H, charges that Bernie is a hypocrite and a liar, and denial of historical facts:
• #ImWithHer Live Blog 05-02-16 - Evening Edition.
• Barbra Streisand chimes in on the alleged Hillary/Goldman Sachs conspiracy theory—with one tweet
• Sanders, Superdelegates, and Stirring up Sore-Loserism
• I changed my mind. Why I’m not voting for Bernie in the Oregon primary
• Survey USA CA: Clinton 57, Sanders 38
• In 2016 Turning Point, Clinton Outraises Sanders in April
Not a single Rec List diary on what is arguably the most important issue of the day: the failure of Congress to do shit to help Puerto Rico, which is now a human, social and UNITED STATES catastrophe. They are now in default. (Not up to speed on this? Watch John Oliver)
I can barely stand to spend any time there now. It's now the Daily Clinton. Very sad.

the more I study the Honduras coup
the more I come to understand how ruthless Hillary is and will be, as POTUS.
I don't care if Trump wins or not, I'll vote for a 3rd party without Bernie.
I read how, when Manual Zelaya turned further to the left in 2008, after he joined ALBA and established ties with Cuba and Venezuela, he became enemy number one with the Honduran rightwing and their associated bourgeoisie.
Hillary joined forces with the Honduran corporate class, a country which historically has had one of the highest Gini coefficient indexes of income inequality in the world, and she assisted in the generals' coup. We know this from her emails released in 2015 and 2016. The story was not so clear before that time.
It's wishful thinking that she will do anything that will benefit the working class in the US. More than likely, she will add to the misery and poverty which already exists here. There's nothing that Bernie can say that will change that reality in my mind.
I wonder if kos was freaking out
Because ca democrat made the Rec list with the great diary about candidates supporting Bernie? I've noticed he reacts anytime a strong post goes up, or when he wants to distract from constructive grassroots efforts. I truly think he is a detractor. No, I don't trust him.

Yeah, I glanced at that Wreck List at TOP too
The "sore-loserism" title was particularly puerile and repulsive. In another election in which the votes had not yet been counted -- and in 2000, they would never be -- I recall Republicans sneering at the Dem candidates as "Sore Loserman." Funny how much like a pack of Republicans the people at TOP sound. Makes you wonder.

It reminds me of the way DKOS used to feel when I started going there during the 2004 primary. Lots of exciting, interesting writers with whom I have a lot in common. It's that "I'm not alone" feeling. Funny, I felt alone in 2004 because I was surrounded by Republicans. I felt that way at TOP recently because I was surrounded by Hillary "Democrats." Hi Tom and Everyone!
I figured out my password as you can see.
I'm not sure some of those Hillary supporters at that site are actually Democrats, some sound just like right wingers!
I'm with you on the vote--- if I must cast a tactical vote against Trump, than that's what I will prob have to do. I live in swing state. If I lived in a solid red or blue state, I would not vote at the top of the ticket.
But, many people I've talked to locally have said they will not vote for her. In fact, a few Bernie friends, who are very anti-Hillary (primarily for her hawkishness), have said if Bernie loses, there's no way in hell they will vote for Hillary. They feel justified because they think that if a Dem wins the WH, we stand less of a chance to take over Congress during the next midterms, (we wont be able to win it all back in 2016 chances are). In their view, Congress is where our real strength is as progressives.
I don't know if their theory really holds water but generally, when a Repub is in the WH, Congress ends up being a Dem majority so I understand where they are coming from. The main problem with their plan of course is/are the potential SCOTUS appointment(s).
A quick thought -
What are the criteria for not voting for the lesser evil - what conditions would have to be in place?
Always voting for the lesser evil will always result in evil.
Remember there is no certainty, only opportunity.
I will not be voting for Clinton - everything else is still up for grabs.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
Not voting for Hillary
The DNC needs an enema. Losing to Trump because half the party walked out might finally get the message through.
Like Herbert said in Dune: If you can destroy a thing, you control that thing. We have to destroy the DNC if we are to control our own political party.
So no, I won't be voting for Hillary. It's looking like the Green Party won't be on my ballot. Guess I'll write in Bernie. If that invalidates all my votes for Dem issues, all the better.
Let the Dems burn.
It's probably inadequate to say...

Doubt very much that a Trump win will get the message through.
Money and entrenched power almost always win.
And the Democratic Party is now dominated by people who once would have been Republicans. We are firmly in the grip of neoliberalism, and I fear it will be a death grip.
Here's what's coming, and this is an excellent must read: As Climate Disruption Advances, UN Warns: "The Future Is Happening Now".
Ma Nature wins. And she's pissed. Hillary will continue Obama's incrementalism -- he's increased fossil fuel subsidies 35% during his tenure, now over $20 billion a year. Time has run out. Four more years of the same, and we are truly fucked.
I always enjoy reading you over there, find your pushback both
entertaining and wise (which is why it pisses them off so), am amazed you're not banned (yet), and agree with you. After all the silencing of Hill's critics, all the rejection, for Kos to think he can motivate us to do anything now is such chutzpah. I will work for down ballot progressives just like I've been working for Bern, but it has nothing to do with Kos. In fact, I make no special effort to read him or the front page, mostly reading what Bern blogs remain and uprating the comments until the Hill people jump in and I get tired of them. Then back to the pootie diaries for me.

Senator Sanders or Dr. Stein.
Donald Trump would make a better president than Secretary Clinton.
Arguing the issues. My goodness, what a concept in US politics. Of course, it seems that arguing the issues is a ruse to getting elected, to throw the opponent of balance. Only Senator Sanders is arguing the issues. Mr. Trump is doing so, or would do so, as a strategy, not as a sincere engagement.
The Clinton family are mouthpieces for the super rich.
The castigation of Donald Trump may be in part warranted, and there are fair criticisms, but the Left is wrong: he is not pure evil. He is more progressive on some issues than Secretary Clinton. The closest we have to an embodiment of evil on the stage this election, Madam Secretary, would be Henry Kissenger.
Peace and love be with you, reader.
Blech.
I just waded back into that swamp, to check out the comments of "The Faithful." You are a brave, noble and wise man, TomP. I don't recognize that place at all anymore, and I've been there for 12 years. Blech. Just BLECH.

Got my first flagging in 11 years at TOS
Isn't it curious how much that word looks like 'flogging'? Anyway, I spoke truth and not only couldn't they handle it, they wouldn't even explore it. Cult-like indeed! There is not even any mention of a single possible Hillary failing. It's like she's a saint. It's like a whole Stepford City.
(Btw, I use a different name over there.)

Way to stand up to the bully Tom!
That's the first thing they do, start creating strawmen to compare you to. The more they go, the less likely I will give her my vote. They better pull up or their plane's going to be trumped.
There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties.. This...is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.--John Adams
