Good morning everyone.
A fine Spring morning it is.
Just returned from the farm after 4 days of fixin' sh#t. A dry barrel hose bib broke off at the fitting 30" down and I had to dig it up and plug it until I can get a new one.
Had planned on planting some corn, but the water problem came up first. Did get some trees chopped down and sliced up, ready for the splitter. And got an Arbor Foundation tree planted. I have 5 others growing in pots and are ready to plant, but I'm waiting for my tree guy to come and take 3 large dead cedars down. I don't have a chainsaw big enough to slice through them (3' thick). Once I get that mess cleaned up I'll plant the other trees to replace them.
I could buy a large enough saw to do it myself, but it costs $2000. And frankly, I'll probably never use that chainsaw again.
So my tree guy is going to cut 4 trees down, slice the trunks into firewood size (18") and chip all the branches for $1900. Seems like a lot, but 2 big trees are hanging right next to my vacation trailer that is simi permanently in place. He says I don't have to move it out of the way.
YAY!
All my tomatoes have survived the frosting with minimal pruning.
Now to let spring do it's magic.
Regular gas just topped $6 a gallon.
I don't know how people manage to survive anymore. I suspect easy credit.
Everything goes on the card. And when the card maxes out, order a new card.
And when they max out on maxed out cards?
Well that's the rub isn't it? I know a couple of people who have bigger credit card payments than their monthly mortgage. I'm sure there are more people in that fix.
I have only one credit card and keep a credit balance on it.
Thread is open. How are you getting by?

and haven't had one for years (well, except one store card I never use). I get by pretty well with just debit cards, taking care to maintain an adequate financial cushion. (I don't know how long this situation can last, but for now I'm ok.)

.
Didn't use to carry a balance on the card
but fell into an expensive spell awhile back.
Just chipping away at it every month. Seeing
the interest charged every month incentivizes.
Digging a hole is takes time to fill-in.

Off to mow next. Thanks for the OT.

there is one scandanavian nation that is famous for even worse tree to saw ratios, but I'm not crazy about tring their method.

We have multiple cards but always pay each off in full every month. Each has an assigned purpose more or less and we do serious budgeting, creating sinking funds for major purposes well in advance to ensure that we have more than enough cowrie stashed away before any purchase is made. Both of us, even before we met, emphasized savings on the theory that a bank account is the equivalent of general purpose insurance for when everything goes south. Even in the hand to mouth days of owning nuthin but a backpack and guitar I almost never touched what I had salted away during periods of regular employment. It worked for both of us and still does.

Makita battery electric that works fine for most all of my cutting chores. But slicing and dicing a 60 foot tree, times 3, is beyond that little saw.
And frugal is not a four-letter word.

got a corded electric, maybe 13 inches. It didn't have near the oomph I expected so I got rid of it. Now I attack small to medium stuff with a sawzall using hyper aggressive 12" pruning blades

I auto pay my electric bill, water bill, and city sewer bills. One credit card i for personal use, the other for business use. I do an auto debit from my checking acct. to pay the statement balances via phone. I own all 3 vehicles, and 4 pieces of real estate.
I can travel without missing any payments in my absence.
Sounds like you had an unpleasant surprise, friend. Happy future planting!
Thanks for the OT!

Yup, paid a $26 late fee for a $20 minimum payment on a $30 purchase.
Racket racket racket. And I had a long history of paying in full monthly.
And additionally, they knew I was out of state using my card because I notified them before we left.
That one charge fell through the cracks and posted early.
Have a great day.

the IRS a while back after a very painful multiyear slog, we are now and will always be debt-free. Unless the Giant Meteor shows up, of course, and we get a ~30-day notice: in that case, I'd happily run 'em up to the limit.

It's been funny to watch how having paid it all off, and having kept it all paid off, freakin' *wrecks* our credit score. Experian really does not like people who choose not to carry interest-yielding balances. Our score goes up 20-30 points around the 10th of the month, and back down by 20-30 points around the 20th every month, as regular as a clock can tick- with nothing happening at all, other than paying off all the transactions from the preceding month, prior to the card due dates. It seems as if they'll do anything they can to keep us below some certain number.

Presumably, the scores are assigned by an AI these days. I'd be concerned, if I was in any way interested in a return to debt-slave status. But at this point, I just have to laugh. Maybe I should take out a 70-month personal installment loan for say $100, and see what that does to it...

Not a fan. Also not a fan of the constipation caused by pain meds: bloating up does not mix well with all those fresh stitches in my belly. Dealing with Experian, and feeling that I risk exploding like Mr. Creosote, occupy roughly the same circle in my personal inferno at the moment... C'mon, prunes, do yer stuff!

So: what's the over/under on Massie and his primary? Enquiring minds want to know..

decades ago. All over a capital loss claim. I showed up with even more receipts and they had to refund me more money.
Haven't ever heard from them since. They leave me alone.
The credit score is a joke. The more you owe, the higher your score. Don't use credit? You have no score.
All the hoopla about the Chinese social score being so commie an' such. Ours is not any diffrent.
I had a serious bout of constipation from the massive amounts of antibiotics with both my knee surgeries.
But at least they warned me about it.
Israel hates Massie. They have pumped massive amounts of money (up to 16 million $ ) to primary him.
He quipped at a rally recently that should he lose, they gave him a number to call and concede defeat. But it had a Tel Aviv area code. LOL
Thanks for the post.

@usefewersyllables Have you tried Miralax? It’s the only thing that worked for my father when he was on every pain pill including narcotics the last months of his life. He suffered terribly from constipation, ended up in Urgent Care at least once. This was in 2007, and Miralax (pretty sure I have that right) was only available by prescription. His other health workers kept suggesting he use it, but for some reason his PCP wouldn’t prescribe it. The pharmacist he was required to see (by the same organization), because he was on so many meds, recommended it at every visit. Finally we had to call the PCP office and demand it. It worked right away. Not too long after he died it became available over the counter.

@Anya

I've been using double the recommended dose of Ducolax, stuff that I had left over from my last colonoscopy. I'm just about out of it, so I'll give that stuff a try. It would certainly improve my outlook on life, if indeed it did the deed... Thanks for the recommendation!

@usefewersyllables when I do not use my cards much. However, from time to time I have many filing fees with the courts, and they only take a credit card held by the attorney of record. In the months where I file a dozen pleadings, I exceed the 30% minimum of my credit limit, so my score drops a few points.
Damned if you do, blah blah...
