Open Thread - Thurs 08 May 2025 - 11 Years Old

11 Years Old

Here in the Puget Sound area an 11 year old boy was arrested at a local Middle School (no, not even a High School) for trespassing with knives. That an 11 year old boy, basically a little kid, has to be arrested for knife possession and trespassing is bad, and sad, enough. What it says about society, about some people, parents, children, whatever, in society is awful. But this is even worse.

The same 11 year old was arrested last month for trying to stab a fellow student at the same school. A teacher intervened and stopped it from happening. The attacker fled and was at large for a day before he was turned in by one of his parents and was booked into a local juvenile justice center, for a time.

What the heck? What makes such a young kid so... evil? I mean, it's evil that he's doing or trying to do, isn't it? Is he mental? He needs help, desperately. And giving him help has to be done, must be done. But perhaps he is simply evil. And nothing will help him. On the other hand, why wasn't he still in the juvenile justice center? What's up with his parents? What makes this happen in our society? Is it the constant video games? The violent movies? Just the basics of everything? What makes a kid so willing to try to hurt other people? I'm at a loss, I have to admit.

What do you think? Are these kinds of things happening locally in your area too? I don't think our society is more violent than before, but I do think such violence is recorded and watched a lot more and therefore maybe it's normalized more than before. Or maybe I'm just being an old f*rt about that? I don't know.

Anyway, this thread is OPEN! What's up, whatcha doing? Reading? Thinking? Remember, everything is interesting if you dive deep enough, so tell us about where you're diving!

Gonna be a good day, right? What's up with everyone? How's it going? I am still having a lot of junk in my lungs and throat but I am feeling much better regardless. I hope everyone is feeling even better than me! Let us know what's up and have a great day!

That is a sad story. The movies, videos, social media the kid was exposed to is due to his parents. They should be put in prison for their neglect or involvement in his development.
I once represented an 11 yr old serial rapist, youngest ever charged for such in the state. He was not old enough to go to a detention center, so at my suggestion, he went into the foster care system.
He used a knife to control his victims. He went on to sexually assault females in one foster home after another, at his various schools, was in the detention center from age 15 to 21, and when released, started raping again, and finally wound up serving a life sentence. He will be eligible for parole this decade.
He was a star in his parent's porn movies, along with his sister. He was only 6 months old at his movie debut, his sister was 2. This is how his parents made a living, selling child porn.
My best guess is that the wanna be stabber has way too much need for an adrenaline rush, and his parents caused this.
Well, at any rate, the lingering cough and rattle might hang on for a while, but your energy and vitality have begun to return. Jaska will be as happy about that as we all are!
Thanks for the OT, chica!

I can't even. Talk about something to be sent to prison for life for... gads. And the kid turns out to be a rapist. At 11? I am not surprised, but I am so saddened.

I think you are right, that the parents caused this young boy to want to stab people. I dunno for sure though, because he's so young, the news says nothing else about him. And that's correct, as it should be. He's too young to be exposed to all that.

Nikko found a snake today, an old, dead, dry, snake. He is SO proud. At least he didn't bring it upstairs and put in on my bed :). Good kid. Hope you have a great day and weekend and court is not too stressful!

Glad to hear you are coming out of the grips of illness.
Wish you continued recovery. As we age, the healing times
seem to get longer.

As Russia celebrates the 80th anniversary of the defeat of nazi
exlensky continues the nazi playbook of killing civilians. A bad look.
Guess since the green midget is losing so badly, some PR campaign is in order.

This is so true, 'As we age, the healing times seem to get longer.' So true. A cold, once took about 4 days for me, now it takes 8. What the heck? A little cut from a berry bramble, maybe two days once upon a time. Now it's more like a week. Sheez.

80 years after the Nazis, here we are again. Nazis running Ukraine, and, well maybe a lot more places. I'm happy to celebrate the victory over the Nazis, but sad that they have to be fought again. 'Green Midget'. Too funny! Have a great day and weekend!

to be grimly encouraging. This is a topic (food additives) that needed attention long ago, and is finally getting some much needed light shined upon it. RFKjr is on a good track here, IMNSHO.

@usefewersyllables lots of us on the site are childless, myself included. But we all had parents. We all observe parents. I represent parents in divorce/child custody cases routinely. I have represented criminal defendants accused of abusing their children.
Here is a case I didn't take: woman is bathing her 6 month old kid. She smells smoke from the kitchen. She rushes to the kitchen to save her spaghetti from scorching. Spaghetti is important.
You know what happened to the infant.

in good conscience, leave the story I originally told up there: it wasn't mine to tell. So I pulled it down and replaced it.

Talking about food additives is much more my speed, so to speak.

Speaking of "not my story to tell", there is apparently a new Pope. And damned if he isn't American. Can't *wait* to see what that turns out like.

to see if he brings American politics to mash into Vatican politics- and if so, which parts? As an atheist, I watch all of that religious silliness with amusement, but also trepidation.

IMNSHO, we've had a big problem with tax-exempt entities getting involved in doing politics from the pulpit for many years. And that is one big-ass pulpit, or so I'm told...

Arghhhh... (me running, screaming). The newly deceased pope went against some American things. So I guess that's gonna change, eh? I'm so glad I'm an atheist.

@Sima Spaghetti.
As for the young rapist, his brain got flushed with testosterone at a time when he was too immature in brain development to flush it out. It is a form of permanent brain damage. His sister is damaged by the estrogen, and is a prostitute, as would be expected.
The would-be stabber is being flushed with adrenaline in his brain. This is going to ruin his life. No way his parents could not notice, and more likely they are reinforcing it.

It is encouraging. It's one of the reasons I have never absolutely rejected RFK, Jr. He's right about this kind of thing. Food additives need to be tested, and approved before being used. Europe has got this one right!

Hope you are having a good day and will have a good weekend!

And there is a groundswell of support portraying knife-wielding Karmelo Anthony as a role model of color for stabbing fellow teen Austin Metcalf (white) dead…

There are rabbis teaching their followers like so:

Rabbi Manis Friedman, an esteemed Chabad-Lubavitch rabbi from St. Paul, became the focus of controversy last week stemming from his short article in the recent issue of Moment magazine.

In the magazine’s “Ask the Rabbis” column, Friedman, and rabbis from other Jewish streams, responded to the question, “How Should Jews Treat Their Arab Neighbors?”

Under the “Chabad” heading, Friedman wrote: “I don’t believe in Western morality, i.e., don’t kill civilians or children, don’t destroy holy sites, don’t fight during holiday seasons, don’t bomb cemeteries, don’t shoot until they shoot first because it is immoral.” The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way: Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and cattle).”

Modern civilization is a thin veneer and It’s flaking off. Everywhere you look, people who should know better are abandoning themselves to “blood and soil” ideologies; getting high on the adrenaline rush of militarism, war, rapine, and conquest; and reverting to imperial bloodlust based on Bronze Age idolatry and tribalism.

Well, for what it’s worth, I protest. I will not conform, I will not remain silent, I will mock the hypocrisy of all our worthless leaders and intellectuals who are scripting this circus as the hollow, evil, smug air-of-superiority bullshit it is.

a kid stabbing another kid at a track meet. Mangione killed money and power, not another kid. But both things say a lot about what the USA expects of people, doesn't it?

What that Rabbi wrote? That's kinda been how the Jews have been throughout history. And other religions too. It's so obvious, but it's too hard to see past one's beliefs to recognize it. I need to write a post on that, maybe. Thanks for sparking the idea!

I hope you have a good day and a good weekend!

....are continuously protected and analyzed with intellectual honesty. The effects of foundational values on the culture are reflected upon across time. These things are not "taught" so much as they are "learned" and experienced.

Concurrently, some modern civilizations tend to be destroyed by the "gods" they invent, and the god-stories that are continuously re-interpreted to simplify social exploitation and crowd control. From here, these civilizations seamlessly embark on historical revision and information suppression. There is a mandatory co-mingling of their invented god with the nation's political system. At this point the society suffers permanent brain-damaged from toxic levels of conflicting cognitive entanglement.

These effects cannot not be healed or reformed. Destructive civilizations must be thoroughly marginalized, or be allowed to seek extinction.

and with a nod to the brandy-new Pope thingus, I know that we aren't supposed to covet stuff. Bad juju. But I got an email from reverb.com today saying that someone had listed a used Chapman/Steinberger NS8. And I went to have a look, and it is set up with the bass side fretless.

https://reverb.com/item/89793772-steinberger-ns-ns-stick-8-string-multi-...

Ooooh, baby- I am filled with lust. A half-fretless Stick. Want! Covet! Drool! Argh! Can't afford, and shouldn't look, but I still want it anyway. Even if the bass side is currently strung upside down as pictured here, Steinberger-style instead of Stick-style. I'd fix *that* in a hurry (there are no rules, after all).

A fretless bass tuned to 5ths would be downright heavenly... (;-)
