Friday Night Photos Surfs Up Edition

Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.

Just got back from a week on the road and haven't had time to go through all the photos I took (500+), so until next Friday, lets go surfing.
These are from last month when I went to the Wavecrest woodie meet in Encinitas. After photographing the cars I changed the wide lens for a long lens and spent a little time photographing the surfers. There were a lot of surfers in the water that morning but not much surf.
Last but not least, thanks to Captain Q for hosting in my absence last Friday. Nice shots of the northern lights.

The first one with the hand reflection and the upside down surfer.

Where did you go and what did you shoot?

I got a brain tick last night and decided that next year I’m heading to California and my old haunts. Bodega Bay, hopefully camping at Wrights beach and up to Patrick’s Point and the redwoods. Last time I was there it had a heatwave and so no pictures of the trees in the fog. I went up the coast to escape the heat in the Central Valley and boy was I bummed.

@snoopydawg
I took these at Moonlight beach in Encinitas, Ca. It's about a 40 min. drive northwest from where I live. The camera was a Nikon Z9 with a Nikon Nikkor 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 lens.
I hope you're able satisfy your brain tick and come out to the coast next year. I'm not sure yet, but it's possible I will passing through that way this time next year on a trip to Oregon.

Fun stuff SP.
Never had the balance to
last much on the long board.
Tried a few times in OB CA
but ended up with face plants and lots of
saltwater up the nose. Glad you are back.

Cheers

Thanks for filling in while I was away. Those were some great shots of the Aurora Borealis. Wish I could have been there to see that. I've body surfed and boogie boarded, but I've never tried surfing. Kudos to you for trying.
Thanks for the link. I'd love to have the chance photograph the Earth from the ISS. That's a bucket list item.

Hi all, Hi SP,

welcome back to the mad mad world. Great surf shots. I never shot any surfing, That type of action is tricky and hard to do. I miss the ocean more than anything here in landlocked central Texas.

Dick Dale Miserlou - which could maybe be called the first surf song, before surf music... and an early example of a lefty playing a right handed Stratocaster 'upside-down and backwards'a la Hendrix.

Here are a couple pixels... more moths. my maxim is shoot first, ask ID questions later. I only know the easy fancy moths. Though love all their endless variation.

Many call these accrea moth, accrea being the specific epitaph of binomial. They are one of the Tiger Moth group, which means caterpillars are wooly bears..

Candy-striped Lichen Moth - over a dozen species where I am, hard to tell. The cats eat lichen.

Space Moth (not really, I have no clue what it is)

Hope all are well!

@dystopian
I've always lived less than an hour from the coast. I can't imagine living somewhere where the ocean was any farther away than that.
Nice selection of moths. It may not be it's real name but Space Moth works as well as any.
