Paris Burns and the West Wanes

Open Thread Image.jpg

Seems to me the western system is in absolute collapse. The corrupt deep state has failed to control and rule the world despite their best (and continuing) efforts. The Ukraine grift machine keeps on churning...money in and paybacks out...the big guy gets 10% after all. New evidence of China/ Biden crime family payouts are mounting. Meanwhile Europe is in chaos with protests in many countries besides France. My guess is we'll throw Europe under the bus as we often do our allies.

Thankfully the rumors have proven false...at least so far.

Meanwhile in the UK if you have wrong thought they close your bank account. Talk about 1984.
Nigel Farage, the former leader of the pro-Brexit UK Independence Party, said his bank accounts are being closed with “no explanation or recourse.” “This is serious political persecution at the very highest level of our system. If they can do it to me, they can do it to you too,” Farage said.

The FBI is just as bad as the CIA. They've been covering for Biden from the promotion of the false Russiagate narrative to the suppression of Hunter's laptop (prior to the election) to the arrests of witnesses of the corruption.

The “missing witness” from the Biden corruption investigation, Israeli professor Dr. Gal Luft, has laid out his bribery allegations against the president’s family in an extraordinary video filmed in an undisclosed location while he’s on the run.

In the 14-minute recording, obtained exclusively by The Post, the fugitive former Israeli army officer claims he was arrested in Cyprus to stop him from testifying to the House Oversight Committee that the Biden family received payments from individuals with alleged ties to Chinese military intelligence and that they had an FBI mole who shared classified information with their benefactors from the China-controlled energy company CEFC.

Free Speech WINS! For now... (~15 min)

The federal government cannot reach out to social media and tell them what to censor, according to an injunction out of federal court on Tuesday. This is the case that came from the Attorneys General from Louisiana and Missouri in which they accuse the federal government of censoring important information about the Covid pandemic. The case has not been decided yet but the judge granted an injunction in a 155-page ruling that states that parts of the government cannot talk to social media companies for “the purpose of urging, encouraging, pressuring, or inducing in any manner the removal, deletion, suppression, or reduction of content containing protected free speech.”
I'm curious to see if the Twitter files will result similar outcomes and rulings.

All things come and go...including (or especially) empires. The US time in the sun is fading. The new BRICS+ currency or means of exchange may do the most to end US dominance, but it will take some time to unwind the USD from global trade. Like most empires, we over extended our military and over used the power of the dollar to bully other nations to do as we say and give us their resources. That is rapidly fading as countries like Argentina made their payment to the IMF in yuan this month, and Saudi Arabia and Iran sell oil for yuan. The Biden crime family corruption is finally getting some coverage and is likely to do real damage before the 2024 election. I'm not sure old Joe has the stamina to make it to the campaign much less win the election. His baggage becomes heavier and heavier. As for the MICIMAC, they seem like most agencies of the failing empire to be more and more incompetent...however still dangerous. Well friends, hang on, the national roller coaster is about to head down hill.
As always, I look forward to your comments, thoughts, and stories below. The thread is open!

The Duran discusses how we intend to thrown Ukraine under the bus.

You may wish to eliminate the "n" after "throw."

At any rate, Ukraine has already been "thrown under the bus," the bus being Russia. You have to suspect that, despite the fog of lies, the nice people at the Pentagon know full well that you can't wage "offensives" without effective air cover, though this is exactly what the Ukrainians are doing and it explains the 400,000+ casualties. "Oh, we'll send them some toys" is all part of the con job.

As for the BRICS currency, let's review. Why did it work -- for awhile in the era of the Great Acceleration (narrowly, after 1945) that the US Dollar was backed by gold, and how did it happen that the US dollar stopped being backed by gold? Michael Hudson's Super Imperialism discusses this. At any rate:

1) The US was initially able to keep the gold backing by confiscating a lot of Nazi gold and by being a global hegemon after World War II.

2) As US spending on Vietnam accelerated, the US declared in 1968 that it was unable to meet its gold-Dollar commitments and in 1971 that it was never going to meet them.

3) Part of the global settlement of 1973 (along with the founding of the Trilateral Commission) was the move to a global faith-based dollar.

Remember that the whole history of the rise and decline of the Dollar-gold standard played out amidst the Golden Age of Capitalism, the thirty years after World War II. Prediction: the BRICS countries are going to discover at some point soon that capitalism doesn't work, and it especially doesn't work in this era. The capitalist facade was kept up by the exploitation of technological and physical frontiers, and so the capitalist era was the era of Europe's conquest of the world. (The theory of this stuff was the initial claim to fame of Rosa Luxemburg.)

So what's left of the frontiers? Well, the physical ones are in the BRICS countries, to be sure -- but they're less prominent than they were: see Paul Prew's The 21st Century World Ecosystem. The technological ones, however, appear to be detaching from profit -- new technologies might still be profitable, but they have been increasingly less so, and the economic systems of the world assumed this self-consuming shape as a result.

Thus the decline of the West might be accompanied by a BRICS boom, but it won't be a big one, and eventually we'll all have to confront the problem of what happens after capitalism.

@Lookout

Should be worried about having a means of trade - that is not mediated, surveilled, filed and subject to the control of whomever controls the network (not to mention whether the resilience network).

Even now - as the Nigel Farage experience (and that of many supporting the Canadian truckers) shows, de-banking is close to eliminating someone's ability to participate in society. Eliminating cash altogether - which governments are actively trying to implement - would amount to total loss of personal autonomy.

But then, come to think of it, he *did* have a fairly vile Swish accent- so he might well have had that wrong. (;-)

I keep trying to reconcile it with Aurelien's statement (in his Substack) that Macron will be in office until 2027. Now, a lot can change without the official leadership changing. Perhaps France will develop what used to be called "dual power" -- with dual power one thinks of the Kerensky regime which took over in Russia after the Czar abdicated in March of 1917. Said regime had to compete with a second, competing government, as Lenin set up soviets across Russia. That was "dual power" in 1917. But my sources of information are poor, as what I'm seeing so far are merely cars on fire.

A ton of information up there today.

I haven't checked out the Duran yet, but opinions and assertions are all over the place all over the internet and news about the BRICS "currency". I just thought I'd point out that pegging one's currency to anything other than a basket of commodities can be very dangerous - specifically tying it to gold and gold alone, for example. There really isn't that much gold in existence when you think of trying to capture something like 1/3 of the global economy with a gold based currency.

But back to the ‘offensive’. The last thing to say on it is, Ukraine is simply desperate to find any possible breakthrough to sell to their NATO masters at this point. But there are so many internal struggles, entire units from the 47th Brigade refusing to go on offensive, various memoranda for which Western equipment can and can’t be used, like the new rumor that British Challengers were pulled back and that Britain is threatening to take them out completely if Ukraine loses a single one in the same humiliating way they did the Leopards. Not to mention that according to some captured AFU, they’re afraid to even use the most prestigious of the Western gear because they know Russia is specifically targeting them, so to drive around in one of the Challengers or Leopards puts an extra large bullseye on your back.

Hi, Lookout - outstanding WW, thank you.

As for Macron, of course he was celebrating. The riots provided the perfect opportunity to implement the no doubt well-laid plans to impose a sweeping surveillance system with minimal notice or opposition.

I've begun to think a few years back that billionaires backing 'social justice' groups and tacitly (or actively) promoting their outrageous actions (think BLM, Antifa, Extinction Event, Stop Oil, LGBQ whatever 'Pride'..)is designed to polarize and outrage the rest of the citizenry to the point where they will accept authoritarian 'solutions' that take what's left of their liberties.

Lax immigration policies, 'restorative justice' (aka no punishment for violent/anti-social serial offenders) also play into this. The useful idiots (not to include the professional provocateurs) may think they are some sort of revolutionary vanguard but when they have served their purpose to the elites orchestrating all this they will be discarded as quickly and definitively as their historical predecessors: Brown Shirts, Red Guards...

in 1933 and, arguably in 1834. In 1834 the US fixed the price of gold at $20.67 per ounce. Under the "Gold Standard" the currency is redeemable for a fixed quantity of gold, not a fixed value of gold. Fixing the value of an ounce to an arbitrary price level put us on something other, some semi gold standard.

Then in 1933, we outlawed the private holding of gold and confiscated all the privately held gold. This made a mockery of the idea that greenbacks would be redeemed for a fixed quantity and/or value of gold, because one could not own or hold any.

1946 brought in Bretton-Woods in which the US would allegedly redeem dollar holdings of other Central Banks for gold at a rate of 35 bux per ounce which we abrogated in 1971.

China accounts for some 94 percent of the world’s gallium and 83 percent of germanium and currently provides around half of U.S. supplies.

Gallium and germanium are “chess pieces in a geopolitical game of enormous proportions,” said Christopher Ecclestone, a mining strategist at the financial advisory firm Hallgarten & Company. “They’re pretty key playing pieces.”

when Nixon pounded that final stake through the heart of the gold standard. It caused great consternation among my hardcore-Objectivist parents, who were completely convinced that The End Was Nigh, and were just waiting for him to announce that 1970 was heretofore be known as the Yardstick Year (Directive 10-289, from the fertile mind of good old A. Rand). If anything would have made them become preppers, that was it... They wouldn't have minded too much if we all got vaporized by an errant Sunshine Bomb, but by Gawd make the price of cigarettes go up and there'd be hell to pay.

My dear departed mother thought that Nathaniel Branden was the greatest thing ever, right up until ol' Ayn shoved him out the airlock (my mom was still wearing her dollar-sign necklace when we buried her). I first read Atlas Shrugged when I was 10, and eventually read everything Rand ever wrote.

Looking back from that perspective over 50 years later, I think that the following John Rogers quote is absolutely dead-nuts accurate, as well as being utterly hilarious:

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings, and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Having said all that: I doubt that either of my parents would ever have imagined, even in their most depressed and alcohol-fogged worst days, what things actually look like now.

One woman bluegrass band - Toni Lindgren (Cuckoo's Nest) 2 min...

It’s been a while since our last Toni Takeover, so we figured we’d do a video of a bunch of Tonies playing a traditional bluegrass song: “Cuckoo’s Nest.” As many of you have seen over the years, Toni is a multi-instrumentalist who can play almost anything with strings, and this one-woman-bluegrass-band video is a nice showcase of that (and she would have added banjo too, but it’s currently in the shop!).

I've never done an overdub cut, but I bet it's fun.
Have a great night...all the best!

....for her future. Will she go back to politics or stick to media commentary? I wonder.

1: You mean RFK, Jr.; there was a JFK, Jr., was. He died an untimely death in 1999.

2: You don't actually "run for" Supreme Court; the President (or a facsimile thereof) nominates you, and if Congress confirms you (at no point does the public get a direct vote), you get to stay on the Court for life. It's one of the most undemocratic institutions in our country (and like most such, the brainchild of Alexander Hamilton, the democracy-averse Judas Iscariot of the Founding Fathers who of course gets a hip image-rehab treatment while iconoclasty against the rest suddenly goes from a radical-fringe behavior to establishmentarian fashion).

Just the same, it is kind of interesting that you suggest they apply for both positions - in 250 years, this has only happened once: https://www.thoughtco.com/only-president-to-serve-supreme-court-104775

there is a red line for my own psychological and physical capabilities. I can't control them anymore and therefore should be silent.
I should take my own signature line seriously.

@mimi There's no reason you should be expected to know everything about some overhyped foreign government, and I for one am happy to help fill in holes. I think you spoke for the majority of the world with your final line.

There's no money in that. The money is in never ending wars.
