Album of the Week - 1-14-23
Afternoon folks!
I uploaded a bunch of cool stuff this week, and I added to the collection of Jeff Beck stuff that has been accumulating as I dig out and clean up albums.
There's a Brownie & Sonny album, some Hot Tuna, a few cuts of Professor Longhair from a compilation, a live Flying Burrito Bros. album (later in their career without Gram Parsons), one of The Band's later albums and an album by Rory Gallagher.
Then there's two Jeff Beck Group albums that I just uploaded this week when I got the news of his passing, an album with Beck, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, a live album with Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group and an old Yardbirds album that I uploaded a while ago.

Carmine Appice. Another really underappreciated player, who is really well appreciated. The Fudge was wonderful, but then I bought his book… Lost it in the fire, but had kept it all these years. Might buy another copy just for the notes.

i think that you're correct. it seems to me that there was a burst of creativity that was helped along by leaping advances in the technology that supports the creation of music.

Hey Joe, you outdid yerself this week!
Hot Tuna's Burgers is outstanding, hard to imagine it is about 50 years old! And that Jack and Jorma kept goin' all this time is sooo awesome. Hot Tuna was quite popular amongst many of the longer-haired circles in L.A. We knew which was the best part of the airplane, and Jack and Jorma were it. Sea Change, Water Song, Ode to Billy Dean, Sunny Day Strut, it is rad stuff... Papa John hits it out of the park.
I have that Blueprint on vinyl. Rory is smokin' hot too. He played a boatload of that and Against the Grain, in 74 when I saw him (front row center seat - 3.5 hour set, never been the same) as they were 'the current/new material'. Remain blown away. To me this is the 'classic' Rory band. McAvoy was amazing on bass, an absolute beast like Leo Lyons or Geezer Butler, keeping up with a speed demon, he had one of the hardest jobs in rock and was very overlooked methinks. D'Ath on drums too... wow.
Anything Beck ever laid his fingers on was great... sometimes it was just too hard for mortals to understand. Too far ahead of his time as most of the greatest artists. Les Paul said to him when Jeff guested on Les's show... "I don't know what it is that you are doing, but keep doing it."
My ex-wife 40yrs ago took my Yardbirds greatest hits double on CLEAR vinyl. She knew not to touch the Jeff Beck EP 45 rpm picture disk - him on one side, a dozen strats on the other. Three songs, Beck's Bolero, Around the Plynth, and I forget the other at the moment... some weird oddball vinyl.
Think I'll go have me some Professor Longhair now...

glad you dug the music. sorry about the sad loss of your yardbirds vinyl, i think that i have that set on black vinyl. i'll see if i can dig it out, clean it up and post it one of these days.
