Flying Burrito Bros

Album of the Week 10-21-23

Afternoon folks!

Well, I've got a good pile of stuff for you this week. Starting off, there's a european record of Champion Jack Dupree backed by a jazz band, followed by an album by Chicago blues sax player A.C. Reed. After that we move on to the blues-rock stuff with albums by Harvey Mandel, The Climax Chicago Blues Band and Rory Gallagher. There's also an album of studio jams by Peter Green.

Then in the diversity department there's a double live album from the Flying Burrito Bros, a double live album from Weather Report and we finish off with a Rock and Roll (perhaps New Wave) album from The Vapors.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 10-14-23

Afternoon folks!

Well, things have slowly improved with my daily limit on youtube, so there's more this week than last. Starting off there's an album by the great Otis Spann accompanied by Robert Jr. Lockwood, followed by a compilation of singles from the ridiculously obscure Young Jessie - make sure you listen through at least to hear his original version of "Mary Lou," which became a hit for the Steve Miller Band and also Ronnie Hawkins. There's a bunch of blues rock this week with albums by Mike Bloomfield and Dr. Feelgood and some country rock from The Flying Burrito Bros. There's an album by the harder-to-classify Spirit and we finish off with some UK electric folk from the Albion Country Band.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week 8-12-23

Afternoon folks!

I've dragged some more good stuff out of the basement and cleaned it up - starting off with a great Chicago blues album by mandolin and guitar player Johnny Young backed up by Otis Spann and James Cotton (neither of whom need an introduction here i'm guessing). After that, there's a compilation of Magic Sam recordings. Then it's on to some blues rock with albums from The Elvin Bishop Group, The J. Geils Band and Foghat.

Following that there's an album by a later line up of the Flying Burrito Bros. and some New Orleans rock from The Radiators. After that there's a compilation of jazz-blues from Tiny Bradshaw.

We finish up with a jazz album by Bennie Wallace featuring (who'da thunk it?) Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dr. John.

Enjoy!

Album of the Week - 1-14-23

Afternoon folks!

I uploaded a bunch of cool stuff this week, and I added to the collection of Jeff Beck stuff that has been accumulating as I dig out and clean up albums.

There's a Brownie & Sonny album, some Hot Tuna, a few cuts of Professor Longhair from a compilation, a live Flying Burrito Bros. album (later in their career without Gram Parsons), one of The Band's later albums and an album by Rory Gallagher.

Then there's two Jeff Beck Group albums that I just uploaded this week when I got the news of his passing, an album with Beck, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, a live album with Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group and an old Yardbirds album that I uploaded a while ago.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week - 11-26-22

Afternoon folks!

This week (surprise) there's more great stuff to listen to. There's a live Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown album, a collection of Leroy Carr recordings and a Neville Brothers live album. I found a long-lost album with Charlie Musselwhite, Harvey Mandel and Barry Goldberg lurking in my basement, cleaned it up and it sounds pretty decent now, perhaps a little of its period, but cool nonetheless. There's a collection of Gram Parsons and Flying Burrito Brothers recordings and an EP of Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels a Rosanne Cash album and another moldy oldie album from the basement by the Five Man Electrical Band - I think it's their debut album. Finally, there's a part of a Dr. Feelgood live album that I will upload the remaining tunes from on Sunday sometime.

Enjoy the splendiferous bounty of my basement! Smile
