Hot Tuna

Album of the Week 3-30-24

Afternoon folks!

An album by Muddy Waters starts us off this week, followed by a compilation of tunes from Little Junior Parker and Bobby Blue Bland - each from their early days with Duke records. After that there's a compilation album of r&b/doo-wop from Otis Williams and His Charms. Following that there's an album of Hot Tuna doing an acoustic set and an electric set live - I'm pretty sure that it's from a performance broadcast by KSAN in the early 70's. After that there's a Stray Cats album and we finish off with some bluegrass from The Dreadful Snakes, featuring banjoist Bela Fleck and Dobro monster Jerry Douglas.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week - 2-4-23

Afternoon folks!

This week I've got a couple of good harmonica blues albums from James Cotton and a compilation of (Little) George ("Harmonica") Smith's early recordings. Then there's a mess of blues rock from Roy Buchanan, Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles, Hot Tuna and Bonnie Bramlett. Following that, there's another Richard & Linda Thompson album and finally there's some serious prog rock from Lenny White (from Return To Forever, for those of you following along in the hymnals) - Al DiMeola makes an appearance on the album.

Take care and have a great weekend everybody!

Album of the Week - 1-14-23

Afternoon folks!

I uploaded a bunch of cool stuff this week, and I added to the collection of Jeff Beck stuff that has been accumulating as I dig out and clean up albums.

There's a Brownie & Sonny album, some Hot Tuna, a few cuts of Professor Longhair from a compilation, a live Flying Burrito Bros. album (later in their career without Gram Parsons), one of The Band's later albums and an album by Rory Gallagher.

Then there's two Jeff Beck Group albums that I just uploaded this week when I got the news of his passing, an album with Beck, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, a live album with Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group and an old Yardbirds album that I uploaded a while ago.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the tunes!

Album of the Week - 11-12-22

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got some excellent Chicago blues with Magic Sam and another album by a friend of his, Luther Allison. There's a bunch of other blues rock and rock with Hot Tuna (a double, live album), Ten Years After, most of Stone The Crows first album, the tragically under-appreciated Jesse Ed Davis, Van Morrison, Steeleye Span and finishing it off with a large anthology of The Easybeats who are mostly known in the U.S. for their hit "Friday On My Mind."

Enjoy!

Saturday Song Open Thread - Candyman

Hey, it's songday. I pick a song that I believe warrants it and publish an assortment of the covers of that song by various persons and or groups. Pick a few that are new to you and have a listen. It is also, of course, an open thread to talk about anything you feel like.

Today's song is: Candyman
