Big Secrets in Plain Sight

Open Thread image.jpg

The hyperbolic news of the week has been "Russia invades Ukraine". I personally would phrase it differently, "Russia provoked to protect Russian speaking provinces in Ukraine from relentless shelling". Below is testimony from a citizen in Donbass which will explain the real situation. The so called invasion was met with cheers, flag waving, and fireworks. How is Russia's recognition of these regions any different than the US recognition of Kosovo, or for that matter recognizing Guaido as President of Venezuela? After all it was a US coup which installed the Nazis to power in Ukraine. This was avoidable simply by agreeing that NATO wouldn't incorporate Ukraine. This story and more below the fold...

How Did We Get Here?

The Strategic Blunder of the 1990s That Set the Stage for Today's Ukrainian Crisis

ukradded.jpg

Putin goes into this history in his hour long speech.

This was a war of choice...

The US and NATO had to put it in writing that they would not expand east and invite Ukraine to join NATO.
...
But the US, UK, Germany and NATO had said before that NATO would not expand, and NATO metastasized to Russia’s borders. Putin is a student of history. And he is not going to go down in history as the second Russian leader to be deceived by verbal assurances that were not put down in writing.

They had to fulfill the promise of the Minsk agreement. The best chance for settling the Ukrainian conflict, the Minsk agreement promised autonomy for the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine. That agreement was endorsed by the Security Council. It was also endorsed by the US. But, though they were willing to grant the Donbas autonomy, they hadn’t. Richard Sakwa, author of Frontline Ukraine, told me that "Kiev openly declared that it would not implement the Minsk agreement." And the US declined to pressure them. But Russia was blamed. Sakwa says that "Moscow’s patience [was] exhausted."

Russia’ decision to recognize the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk comes only days after Putin met with French President Macron and German Chancellor Scholz. Presumably it became clear to Putin that France and Germany, despite the desire and intention, lacked the strength to enforce Minsk.

Why now? Ukrainian shelling of the region created a flood of refugees into Russia.

Moscow’s acting emergencies minister said Wednesday that over 96,000 refugees from the Donbas have crossed the border into Russia since evacuation began, Russia’s Tass news agency reported.

Good analysis by Pepe Escobar...
This is what happens when a bunch of ragged hyenas, jackals and tiny rodents poke The Bear: a new geopolitical order is born in breathtaking speed.

Russia says it has no intentions of controlling Ukraine and its military operation is only to “demilitarize” and “de-Nazify” Ukraine in an action taken after 30 years of the U.S. pushing Russia too far, writes Joe Lauria.

This is a long interview at 1.5 hours, but it was very informative to hear a feet on the ground resident of Donbass

Russell "Texas" Bentley is based in Donetsk and has been in Donbass since December 2014 as a soldier in the Novorussian Army in Vostok and XAH Battalions. He will detail the situation on the ground as Russia recognizes the breakaway republics and sends peacekeeping troops to end the grinding conflict with Ukraine.

Here's a much shorter (40 min) conversation with Max and Jimmy...

While the Biden administration and its mouthpieces in the mainstream corporate media beat the drums for war while labeling Putin an imperialist warmonger, few bother to mention the decades of intensive American “meddling” in Russian and Ukrainian affairs that have inexorably led to the current crisis.

Jimmy and Aaron had an illuminating discussion too. (40 min)

The media description of the Russian attack on Ukraine has almost universally elided and whitewashed the role played by the US and its NATO allies, including supporting a coup overthrowing the democratically elected president in 2014, refusing to support the Minsk Accords or refusing to engage in negotiations in the months leading up to the Russian invasion. Jimmy and Aaron Maté http://mate.substack.com discuss the lies and misrepresentations surrounding the lead up to the war in Ukraine.

Richard Sakwa. Professor of Russian and European politics at the University of Kent. His books include “Frontline Ukraine: Crisis in the Borderlands” and his latest, “Deception: Russiagate and the New Cold War.

(42 min)

After weeks of US claims that a Russian invasion of Ukraine was imminent, Vladimir Putin instead recognized the breakaway republics of Luhansk and Donetsk. The decision has triggered a new round of US-led sanctions while bringing attention to rebel-held areas, where, according to UN figures on the Donbas war, 80% of civilian casualties have occurred since 2018.

Professor Richard Sakwa analyzes the factors behind Putin's move, and its likely consequences. Putin's decision, he says, comes after Kiev refused to implement the 2015 Minsk accords, which could have ended the conflict, and a longstanding US-driven project to expand NATO to Russia's borders.

Hedges: Chronicle of a War Foretold

After the fall of the Soviet Union, there was a near universal understanding among political leaders that NATO expansion would be a foolish provocation against Russia. How naive we were to think the military-industrial complex would allow such sanity to prevail.
...
The war industry did not intend to shrink its power or its profits. It set out almost immediately to recruit the former Communist Bloc countries into the European Union and NATO. Countries that joined NATO, which now include Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia were forced to reconfigure their militaries, often through hefty loans, to become compatible with NATO military hardware.

To my mind this approach has long been promoted and enforced by the CIA. (52 min)

It's more than just the US war machine...there's a systemic array of big secrets in plain sight.

This is a great summary of our collapsing system of interrelated domains. (1.3 hour)

The US dollar is another big secret in plain sight.

Where does money come from? Who creates it? Who decides how it gets used? And what does that mean for the millions of ordinary people who suffer when money and finance breaks down?

97% Owned is a new documentary that reveals how the creation of credit and the mystery that surrounds it, is at the root of our current social and economic crisis.

Referring to the 97% of the world’s money supply that is represented by credit this thought provoking film presents serious research and verifiable evidence on our economic and financial system and is the first documentary to tackle this issue from a UK-perspective

Featuring frank interviews and commentary from economists, campaigners and former bankers, it exposes the privatised, debt-based monetary system that gives banks the power to create money, shape the economy, cause crises and push house prices out of reach.

Fact-based and clearly explained, 97% Owned demonstrates how the power to create money is the piece of the puzzle that economists were missing when they failed to predict the crisis.

The Great Reset and the Rise of Bitcoin - a 1.3 hour documentary that explores the current state of our economy and the impact a new monetary system like Bitcoin can have on the world. Learn about our economy, the long and short term cycles, inflation and Bitcoin.
The film is the official winner of the Best Documentary Feature and Best Indie Feature of the Oniros Film Awards.

Easy to see, but difficult to understand, is the corrupt nature of money itself.
End of the Road: How Money Became Worthless | Financial Crisis | Documentary from 2012
Another worthwhile watch...

In 2008 the world experienced one of the greatest financial turmoils in modern history. Markets around the world started crashing, stock prices plummeted, and major financial institutions, once thought to be invincible, started showing signs of collapse. Governments responded quickly, issuing massive bailouts and stimulus packages in an effort to keep the world economy afloat.
Although we’ve been told that these drastic measures prevented a total collapse of our system, a growing sense of unease fills the population. In the world of finance, indeed in all facets of modern life, cracks have started to appear. What lies ahead as a result of these bold money printing measures? Was the financial crisis solved, or were the problems merely kicked down the road?

The US economy is in danger of collapse.

Food

The Corporatization of Food
Joe Rogan, Diana Rodgers, and Robb Wolf (12 min)

Several good films have recently posted about diet, nutrition, and health. Why don't TPTB educate people about healthy foods and lifestyles? Well they prefer to to have a sick population to buy drugs. A population that doesn't realize simple dietary changes can reduce our obesity epidemic and eliminate most of our chronic diseases. At about 1.5 hours each, you'll need to pick and choose or stretch out the viewing over a few days.

The Big Secret
This documentary explores the truth behind some of today's most widely-accepted medical practices, and seeks to expose how the focus on corporate profits influences traditional medical treatment in the United States.

Food As Medicine
is a documentary film that follows the growing movement of using food to heal chronic illness and disease.

I've featured this film a couple of times. I think it is well worth your time if you have not seen it.

Another health tool is fasting. If you're metabolically healthy it is a fairly easy, effective tool for a variety of conditions and diseases.
The INSANE BENEFITS Of Fasting & Foods Your Need To STOP EATING!
Dr. Pradip Jamnadas
You probably wouldn’t expect a cardiologist to tell you that not eating is the key to better heart health. But today’s guest is a passionate believer in finding new solutions to old diseases – and in finding those solutions within ourselves.

My fasting mentor is Jason Fung.

So let's wrap up with something hopeful.
Is living a sustainable peaceful life possible?

I've cued this up 20 min which focuses on the problems we face, and moved directly to the solutions, but you can back it up if you want to see it all.

So that's more than enough to ponder, but I do want to add a reminder about Julian who is still in a maximum security prison for revealing US war crimes. It is reminiscent of Fahrenheit 451.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/02/25/us-bombed-somalia-amid-russ...

"You do not, in fact, have to choose between American and Russian imperialisms," wrote one anti-war reporter. "The correct choice is to detest and resist both."
...
The first known U.S. airstrike in Somalia in 2022 was the fifth since the start of President Joe Biden's tenure in the White House.

"Before him, Donald Trump escalated the U.S. war in Somalia like no one else had, bombing the country more in the first two years of his presidency than Barack Obama had in eight, all the way up to January 19, 2021," journalist and author Spencer Ackerman wrote Thursday on his Forever Wars blog. "George W. Bush plunged the U.S. into conflict in Somalia in the first place in 2006."

Let's think a moment. This century the US invaded Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, and fomented coups allover the globe. We devastated and degraded all those countries for no gain except US power and control. None of those countries border the US nor threatened us. America seems incapable of looking in the mirror to examine their own aggression and grab for world domination.

Wow under cover of Russian invasion even more mischief...

Edit to add -

I love the smell of napalm in the morning, Apocalypse Now's most memorable line, is uttered calmly and wistfully by Lt. Colonel Kilgore (Robert Duvall) as his men risk their lives storming a beach behind him. It's a darkly absurd moment in Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 Vietnam movie, but the line is also something many of us have said with a grin as we're surrounded by (more benign) chaos.

@Azazello Cold War 2.0 for years now, at least since 2016 when the media propaganda began about Putin and Russiagate. The late Steve Cohen might have marked the beginning earlier than that.

And the latest U events only take us a step closer to an actual direct hot war with the Russians, or WW3. The preliminaries to a world war tend to happen over years, and we have already got the snowball rolling. Putin has reacted, tossed his hat over the wall, and has no other option but to go retrieve it and see it through. It's not so much if Russia will prevail in Ukraine but what they will do the day after, what is the plan going forward.

Those A-holes in NATO have been mayheming and destroying countries everywhere while the world’s media looked the other way and far too many Americans have been okay with it. What has been happening in Ukraine since Obama’s brutal coup has never been exposed or has been covered up and whitewashed to make the neo Nazis look like freedom fighters. Now we’ve got misinformed people supporting the actual Nazis that they say they despise. Misinformed..I’m being generous here.

Blast from the past by Robert Parry on the time period after the coup. We sure lost a great voice when he died. Worth a read.

So, as has become apparent across Europe and even in Washington, the Ukraine crisis is spinning out of control, making the State Department’s preferred narrative of the conflict that it’s all Russian President Vladimir Putin’s fault harder and harder to sell.

How Ukraine is supposed to pull itself out of what looks like a death spiral a possible two-front war in the east and the west along with a crashing economy is hard to comprehend. The European Union, confronting budgetary crises over Greece and other EU members, has little money or patience for Ukraine, its neo-Nazis and its socio-political chaos.

America’s neocons at The Washington Post and elsewhere still rant about the need for the Obama administration to sink more billions upon billions of dollars into post-coup Ukraine because it “shares our values.” But that argument, too, is collapsing as Americans see the heart of a racist nationalism beating inside Ukraine’s new order.

Guess they forgot.

I see it much like the people who called the truckers Nazis and anti vax when they were actually people from all walks of life and most of them had been jabbed. What they were doing was protesting the government’s power grab and removing people’s freedoms which in a sane world all people should be behind. How many people on the ‘left' would be behind the patriot act if it was Biden who was pushing…oh never mind. I just remembered that they are fine with Biden’s domestic terrorism laws because they think they are only directed at Trump supporters. And that they would never be targeted just like people in Canada who don’t think that Trudeau could come down on the next BLM protest. Or one that they do. It’s like censorship. is handling the Ukraine crisis skillfully, leading a coordinated Western response, setting the public agenda, and shrewdly putting out classified intelligence letting the world know what the Russians are up to.

The president has shown a smart strength, a contrast to Afghanistan last summer, where a necessary policy was marred by a careless withdrawal.

This time the president and his top lieutenants, especially Secretary of State Tony Blinken and CIA director Bill Burns, are covering every base. It did not deter Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator, from invading Ukraine — but the response has been more cohesive and far reaching than Putin likely expected. As the crisis deepens, America and the West have the high ground.

Thanks. Here's a taste for others.

It is fair to say that the “Joe Biden” government dearly wanted a Russian invasion of Ukraine in order to divert attention from the “Joe Biden” government’s war on its own people in the United States. The table was nicely laid for it over many years, including, by the way, Mr. Trump’s vaunted gift of weaponry to Ukraine, which enabled and emboldened the Kiev regime to harass the Russian-speaking population of Donbas without relent. And the situation was aggravated by the deliberate negotiation-unworthiness (Russian term) of “Joe Biden” and Company, who refused to discuss the chief issue between the US and Russia, namely, the dishonest effort, in violation of written agreements dating from 1990, to enlist Ukraine in NATO, and thereby to place missiles on Russia’s border. The US disallowed something very similar in 1962, when the old USSR tried to put missiles in Cuba.

You are also seeing payback for the Maidan color revolution of 2014, engineered by John Kerry’s State Department and John Brennan’s CIA. We have been managing Ukraine backstage since then and, alas for that poor country, quite deceitfully. If you bother to read the recent statements of both “Joe Biden” and Mr. Putin, you will see exactly why and how the situation developed. You will also see an appalling difference in the quality of public utterance — as, say, the difference between Zippy the Pinhead and a Metternich.

Question everything. Take nothing at face value.

If you have never experienced the propaganda push surrounding war, the totality of the inbound bullsh*t can be destabilizing, overwhelming and unnerving. It’s one of the reasons why CTH doesn’t share immediate information. Everyone has an agenda.

Everything we are seeing in U.S. media surrounding U.S. interests in Ukraine is a massive propaganda operation with the headquarters in the U.S. State Department and U.S. intelligence community. The sense of sympathy you are feeling is part of an intentionally manipulative operation from within this DC matrix.

The images, pictures, videos, speeches, soundbites and the cinematography broadcast by U.S. corporate media are all purposefully intended to create a very specific outlook within the American people toward the issues in Ukraine. The leftist United Nations, and the leftist U.S State Dept, will work together on this just like they have done in the prior examples (Ukraine 1.0, Libya, Egypt, etc.).

It is very easy to become a victim of psychological warfare intended to manipulate our opinions.

Here to support Putin.

Clip from Al Jazeera article confirms my hypothesis:

"Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Russia’s Chechnya region and an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said Chechen fighters had been deployed in Ukraine, and he urged Ukrainians to overthrow their government.

In a video posted online on Saturday, Kadyrov boasted that Chechen units had so far suffered no losses and said Russian forces could easily take large Ukrainian cities including the capital, Kyiv, but their task was to avoid loss of life."

Putin wants to win AND keep human casualties to a minimum. If that is possible. And I am not giving him credit where none is due.

So people in Germany are going to pay higher prices for gas cuz their government cut off Nordstream and now they get to pay for weapons that just might risk their lives because of nuclear war or just plain retaliation like Putin has warned.

I’m seeing lots of shitlibs saying some of the dumbest things because they have been brainwashed into thinking that every person in Russia is bad and that Putin is nothing but a thug. They also want NATO to ask Sweden to join it and thinks there’s no downside to Ukraine becoming a member. I just don’t get that.

I suspect a more peaceful strategy COULD have been effective, but that's hypothetical at this point.

However, I can't construct any hypothetical scenarios for a resolution that don't have a negative impact on Russia. Kiev (NATO/US) nixed the Minsk agreement and refuse to negotiate this. This option was the least damaging to Ukraine and in accordance with R2P for the people in Donbas. US/NATO doesn't give a hoot about Ukraine except as a land mass to further encircle Russia with nukes for future appropriation of Russian resources. The Nazis aren't just in Ukraine.

I've quit the Koch funded NPR national propaganda radio, so I hadn't noticed. They do still have nice public interest stories, but their news went to hell.

Reminds me of a little old lady in our town buying the local rag a few years ago when the price doubled from a quarter to a half dollar. She said, "first the paper goes to hell and then it goes to 50 cents." Which was pretty accurate since that was the year a Texas publishing empire bought out the local paper.

Have a nice day and be well!

Heh, viewing and reading this edition and the comments I couldn't help but think of McCluhan. Once there was Pathe', news of the world, and, of course it was because they had it on film. Then there were the news hours with teasers featuring "film at 11" and travelogues and documentaries (Lowell Thomas anybody?), and film, except as obvious entertainment was the hallmark of truth, verite' and history. And so here we are today, and, as the man predicted, the medium IS the message.

Just one of those early morning thoughts that wouldn't let go, so I'm gonna saddle you with it. Sorry

be well and have a good one

Pope in the middle of Russia-Ukraine crisis at Feb 27, 2020 by MK Bhadrakumar (retired diplomat for India) Asia Times

The papacy is back in global politics – that is, assuming it ever left. The gesture by Pope Francis to visit the Russian Embassy in Rome on Friday was undoubtedly a notable event, for a variety of reasons.
...
The Vatican has a centuries-old “foreign service” of diplomats and spies, “think tanks” and journalists. Nothing that a pope does is ever coincidental. There is also the ponderous Vatican bureaucracy, which makes the decisions for the pope.

But interestingly, Francis’ visit to the Russian Embassy on Friday was not listed in his customary daily program sheet of engagements.

That alone makes it an extraordinary, hands-on papal gesture that has no recent precedent. The US cable network CNN reported that the Pope spoke with the Russian ambassador for more than an hour and a half
....
By way of background, after the CIA-sponsored coup in Ukraine in 2014 and the commencement of the anti-Russian trajectory of the new regime in Kiev, a schism was engineered in Orthodox Christianity, as Ukraine separated itself by establishing its own Ukrainian Orthodox Church in December 2018, distinct and autonomous from the Russian Orthodox Church.
...
It stands to reason that at the meeting on Friday, Francis conveyed to the Kremlin some message in regard to the developments in Ukraine. The long duration of the meeting in the Russian Embassy flags that it was substantive.

Given Francis’ flair for geopolitics, his empathy with Russian foreign policy and his critique of the West in many ways, the in-person visit to the embassy – Francis could always have summoned the ambassador, which is the usual practice – makes it an extraordinary hands-on gesture.

Nice description of John...
Dr. John Campbell is a retired nurse educator who holds a Master of Science in health science and Ph.D. in nursing. He has come to prominence lately due to his YouTube channel that gained popularity during the pandemic. Audiences enjoy his content as he endeavours to present medical data that is often unaddressed in mainstream media in an objective and educational manner.

But I found really fun and interesting the astrology/mythology portion that I've cued up here. Excellent big picture religion IMO - about 25 min till the next part on JFK/911...

I bet that she wasn’t met with gales of laughter when she said that? Obama was good at saying that too. He was defending Israel during operation mow the lawn and said that no country should have to tolerate bombs raining down on them from another country. I remember picking my jaw off the floor.

and the arms industries incentive, like all blood sucking corporate interests, is profit.

So corporations are considered as persons. Now normally I'm against the death penalty, but in the case of the people called corporations I think it might be a good thing.

Expect anything that involves grain will likely see large price increases.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-02-27/traders-balk-at-russi...

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is roiling global agricultural markets, with some traders warning they’re unlikely to offer wheat from the vital Black Sea region at a closely watched Egyptian buying tender on Monday, while others won’t participate at all.

Egypt is one of several countries in the Middle East and North Africa that rely on massive wheat imports to feed their citizens, and Black Sea nations -- particularly Russia and Ukraine -- are key suppliers. Egypt canceled a previous tender on Thursday after only receiving one offer of French wheat and has now scheduled a new one.

While ports in Ukraine are closed, some Russian exporters are fulfilling existing contracts and ships are departing, said one person familiar with the matter. Still, at least one shipping company had vessels loaded with grain that were unable to depart a Russian port as of Friday evening, another person said.

The uncertainty caused by the war means that importing nations are looking at their alternatives to buy from elsewhere. But the options may be limited as Russia and Ukraine together account for more than a quarter of global wheat trade and nearly a fifth of corn.

The disruptions come at a time when global crop prices have already soared to records, fueling inflation and hunger levels, while grain stockpiles have declined. If Russia and Ukraine were to leave the global grain market for an extended period, it would have a dramatic effect on food supplies and prices

Wheat futures in Chicago jumped almost 9% on Monday to near the highest price in more than 13 years after the West toughened sanctions over the weekend.
