Just what does Kamala bring to the Biden ticket?

Thank you Tulsi for that marvelous take down of Harris that she never recovered from. Harris said that she "Knew that she would take hits because "she was a top tier candidate and besides Tulsi is an individual who is an Assad apologist" so there."

I guess it depends who she is talking to.

I don't think that she is talking to us because the country is basically only working to let the rich get richer and the poor to fend for themselves.

Notice she says Commander in Chief, not President. I think that says a lot about the dem party platform.

Kamala is coming to Utah in Oct to debate Pence. Yippie.... I can't wait to go watch this. Oh wait. We're going to have Zoom debates aren't we?

>Sanders was the winner of Utah’s Super Tuesday presidential primary on March 3, with more than 36% of the vote. Biden came in second, with just over 18%. Harris had withdrawn her name from the Utah ballot after dropping out of the presidential race in December.

Lex Scott, founder of Black Lives Matter Utah and a co-chair of Sanders’ presidential campaign in Utah, described herself as a reluctant Biden supporter who didn’t want to see Harris on the ticket because of her record as a prosecutor.

Still, Scott said she is encouraging others to vote for Biden as the “lesser of two evils” compared to Trump.

“Joe, we need you to do more than find a Black woman as a running mate. We need structural changes in this country that help to end racial inequality. It is symbolic, so thank you,” she said, adding that while many see his choice as something to celebrate, others “need to see more than surface-level” attention to the issue.

Well what do the folks here think of this pick?

This Democrat is going to vote republican this year. No way can I vote for what Biden wants to do with our country.

I'll be voting Republican as well this time. No way I'm voting for someone with such radical views as Kamala.

Mmm nope. I was this close to voting D but she's too liberal for me and everyone knows she'll be the de facto President. I will vote L or write in someone, but I won't be a part of destroying the country with whichever major ticket wins. We lose either way.

It only took Tulsi 30 seconds of a debate to end her whole campaign.

LoL... Trump could just play that video of Tulsi tearing Harris a new one for the rest of the election season. Plus all the videos of Biden talking when he can't form a coherent sentence. Or the one from the debate where he gets so lost he decided that his time was up.

Yes, and Tulsi would have been a great pick for VP. She would have been a shoe-in for the Democrats in 2024. Kamala? not so much

A Passion for Justice

Biden's family has gotten very rich off the government teat just like the Trump family has. In fact once again his brother is being looked at for fudging the rules and ripping off donors as he has off and on since big brother Joe got elected 4 decades ago. Lots of families of people in government grift. It's just too easy to do.

Kamala Harris Assembles Campaign Staff Of Unpaid California Prison Laborers

WASHINGTON—On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that she would be running for president, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) reportedly began staffing her campaign Tuesday with unpaid inmates from California correctional facilities. “I’m so grateful to have such an incredible and devoted team headed up by my new campaign manager, Spider, as we work together to fight for American values,” said Harris of the two dozen non-violent criminal offenders who would reportedly work shifts of up to 72 hours out of her campaign office in exchange for three square meals a day and all the “Kamala Harris 2020” merchandise they could carry. “Whether it’s knocking on doors, leading focus groups, making phone calls, or helping prep me for upcoming media appearances, my entire staff will be comprised of unpaid prison laborers. Not only will this cut campaign-related expenses by up to $20 million, it will also allow inmates to spend time in the community and provide them with valuable work-related opportunities.” Harris added that due to a quirk in California state law, most inmates would be ineligible to work for other political campaigns once they’d been released from prison.

I'm sure they're probably reveling in the fact that we all thought Tulsi ended her. But I'm honestly not surprised. I kind of figured she'd be the one. They can't miss the chance to rub our faces in it.

However, as you point out, the DNC ain't the only ones enjoying this. If anything could give Trump 2024 a shot in the arm it would be this. Like you say, all he has to do is play that video over and over again. OTOH, given that he's a president botching the management of an epidemic, he'd probably lose against the Demented Racism ticket even if we had actual elections with votes that counted. It's kind of hard to lose to a president who told people a disease was nothing to worry about, that they should gargle Lysol or something, and then stood there being an asshole while more than a hundred thousand people died. Although, if his name were Bush or Clinton, I'm sure the PTB would come up with some way to excuse his behavior.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal I still think it was supposed to be Kamala's turn. I felt that way in the run up to the primary season and I never stopped feeling that she had some pretty powerful people propping her up. The kool kids can gloat about her getting the VP nod, but she was supposed to be top of the ticket, until Tulsi ruined that for her. They couldn't even tip the scales in her direction, she was that damaged. I don't feel Biden wanted her as his VP, but I don't think he had a say either.

So if Trump loses, it's a win/win for both sides. Biden gets to have been president, for however long they let him be, and the establishment will eventually get president Kamala against the wishes of the voters. Not so great for the rest of us, but without a complete burn it down and start over of our government, I don't think it really matters anymore.

@Dr. John Carpenter Absolutely she was the one they wanted-- for days I have been hunting for a NY Times piece from January 2017 (or at the very latest, February) that reported Harris's trip to the Hamptons in early winter of 2017 to be vetted and feted by Her Heinous's donors, i.e., Wall Street, AIPAC, NYC (NeoLib) $$, etc. Can't find it, but did find one in the Guardian that also spoke of that pre-selection before the first vote was cast. So, yeah, this is who they wanted all along, black Hillary.....

Hamptons that gave us the clue that she was the chosen candidate. She might have gone farther during the primary except for Tulsi’s takedown on her heinous record as AG. This is what Bernie supporters are most upset about. During the BLM protests the democrats go with the guy who wrote the crime bill and the woman who enforced it. There contempt for us is plain to see as is the contempt of many centrists.

I’m being lectured on Twitter to not say anything bad about Harris and to make sure that I vote for Biden. Hey even Joe has told us to vote for someone else if we didn’t like his policies. This is good enough for me to do just that. But it all comes down to this:

is "would any political person want to be biden's Veep?" i know many of you have extremely high regard for tulsi gabbard: would she have wanted it?

we'll never know who chose Copmala (h/t aliasalias) but she seems to be a twin of biden's in many respects.

as to the voters, this was on the msn. homepage linking to this ipsos poll aug 12

from msn.com:

Harris, who is less well-known than the three men, has a favorability rating of 35%, while 31% view her unfavorably. Her favorability soars to 71% among Democrats.

That number among Black Americans, a core constituency of the party's base, stands at 52% but a large portion, roughly 40%, doesn't know enough about her to rate her or had no opinion of her.

Just over one-third of Americans have a favorable opinion of President Donald Trump, while a clear majority -- 58% -- have an unfavorable view of the president. Nearly one-third view Vice President Mike Pence favorably, while 45% have an unfavorable impression of him. (and so on)

the DNC's Big Tent Unity is expanding. the initial aug. 11 list of speakers at the virutal convention was about 17, it's grown to 37 or so; it's hard to count in this tweet:

'Former Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich defended his decision to speak at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in support of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden', aug. 12, msn.com

but the HUGE news is: according to business insider, AOC was allotted 60 seconds to speak (sadly, BI is behind a paywall for me, but she apparently believes it), and had tweeted this poem:

'Life Is Just a Minute' by Benjamin E. Mays.

'I only have a minute. Sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, I did not choose it, But I know that I must use it. Give account if I abuse it. Suffer, if I lose it. Only a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it.'

The poem, she noted, was recited by the late Elijah Cummings, representative for Maryland.

but her homies have already created a hashtag: #LetHerSpeak

@wendy davis opening Q is Yes, of course any pol would want the job of VP for Biden. He figures to barely make it to the end of his first term, thus a handoff is likely to occur to the VP and she will be sitting pretty to become the first woman P in herstory.

But Tulsi was about as likely for Biden as Chér. I don't know if she's quite yet officially persona non gratin in the Dem Party, but at least something akin to treading water outside the boat, without a surfboard.

As for the new list of D speakers: I'm sure like many here you jumped out of your seat in excited anticipation to hear that Doug Jones will be speaking on Mon, then John Kerry on Tues, and then Chris Coons to complete the trifecta of electrifying speakers on Thurs. Please advise on ways for me to stay calm until then.

Obama is running for his third term. All Trump has to do is pull out the playbook from 2016. There is a reason that Obama/Clinton could not beat Trump. Trump has already started repeating that Obama gave all of our jobs and technology to China and that Biden will do the same. It will stick. Trump will paint a picture of doom and gloom if Biden is elected. How will Biden negotiate with Xi or President Putin or Erdogan or even Macron. Could Harris? OK, you can stop laughing now. The answer is that they will hide out in the White House. These are not serious world-class people. And why would anyone think that a third Obama term will do anything better than the first two? Biden isn't promising anything aside from vetoing M4A and trillions thrown at "green jobs" with no more details than that. Or and more money for cops. And we have plenty of past history of Biden being on the wrong side of everything, which he's testily defended and doubled down on on the rare instances he's called out on it.

This is how I felt in the run up to Obama with the addition of knowing I was right then and the frustration of seeing those who were wrong just shrugged and kept telling us to vote blue no matter who. And, of course, knowing that Trump is Obama's legacy. Sigh.

at the bottom of this one there is a full list of what he will do in his first 100 days.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/8/13/1966866/-Biden-has-an-expansi...

The GOP spent the 1st 100 days of Trump rolling back Obama's last minute out the door regulations that made it look like he was at last being progressive. But many of them weren't to go into effect for many months and in some cases years. People were focusing on Trump's words and deeds to and not paying attention to what was actually happening in DC and of course dems never said a word about it. I did, but people didn't seem to want to pay attention. The shining object was more fun.

Biden isn't promising anything aside from vetoing M4A

I posted a tweet in the evening blues last night where a journalist asked Biden if he would still veto it if congress passed it. "They will never pass it and look other countries have single payer and they still had problems with COVID." No shit Joe. But just having MFA would not keep the virus from spreading and you know that. What it would do is keep people from being saddled with massive medical debt.

And we have plenty of past history of Biden being on the wrong side of everything, which he's testily defended and doubled down on on the rare instances he's called out on it.

This is what Bernie was running on rolling back. This is why Warren first went to congress and what she was initially running on. I didn't finish my thought above about how Warren and others were very upset with the bankruptcy bill, but are now pretending like it never bothered them as they whitewash Biden's legacy. Warren especially when she wholeheartedly endorsed him. As usually it is the effing hypocrisy that drives me nuts.

Lots of people were warning us that Obama wasn't what he pretended he was. I didn't listen and I think it was because after surviving the Bush years I so wanted someone to come in and reverse what he did. Obama vaguely promised to do that. We know how that went. So what will Biden/Harris do about Trump's tax cuts? His assault on the post office? His deregulations across all industries? .....? I am going with them not really doing anything to keep the country out of the spiral it is in. How about the eviction crisis that will be exploding just as they take office if they win? Well we saw how Biden and MyBoss handled that last time we were faced with it.

This is just dumb from my point of view. Trump should instead focus on Biden's bad policies and show why this country is where it is. Same with Harris' record as AG in CA. Explain how she kept people from leaving prison just so that the state could use them as low paid/slave labor. Or kept the guy on death row after new evidence came out. Stick with the facts and don't make crap up. But then do either campaigns actually want to win? Dems would be fine with another 4 years of Trump. Destroying Bernie proved that.

If they did, they would realize that they already voted for Biden twice, and it didn't do the country any discernible good. In fact, after two Biden elections, the country turned to Trump (though that was obviously not only his and Obama's fault; Hillary 2016 was mind-bogglingly terrible; at one point I thought they were straight-up trying to lose.)

I guess you could make the argument that the problem was that Biden wasn't president, but at that point you're arguing that Obama was the problem, and if only we had Joe at the helm everything would have been jim-dandy, and I don't know anybody who would argue that.

@Daenerys She thought it was pretty cool she'd lived to see the first black president. From a Republican born in the 20s who grew up and stayed in a one-horse town which had zero black people or diversity I ever remember, I always though that was kind of a solid measure of her character.

Kamala certainly did not generate any support in any minority communities. Maybe she will tour the country on a law-n-order traveling circus. Which means throwing BLM under the bus. Which is what the democratic establishment does. They threw Bernie and his supporters under the bus. Violently put down OWS. Is a white counter reaction brewing over the rioting and looting that occurred?

What worries me is if she becomes president. I think she was very strong sadistic streak which will work against her in international relations. I fully expect some major war under Biden or Harris including a hot war with Russia.

To me, she brings an even better reason not to vote for it.

I'm not impressed with the completely transparent effort to elevate her to the presidency whenever Uncle Tapioca inevitably keels over, if he should somehow win the general. They didn't even bother to ratfuck her in. She couldn't come anywhere close to winning any primaries on her own, so to simply hand her the presidency on a silver platter is pretty offensive.

Par for the course for the dems, but offensive nonetheless.

@Raggedy Ann

She was the best pick.

* She's been vetted on the national stage due to her own 2020 bid.

Sure she was vetted by the public and look at how they rejected her. This is not a strong point duffasses.

* She emerged as an outspoken voice on race -- and the need for police reform -- following the death of George Floyd in May and the subsequent protests it sparked around the country

Actions speak louder than words.

What that all means is that Biden wants the race to be about him as little as possible. He doesn't want to turn this into 2016 all over again, in which Hillary Clinton was forced by Trump to play defense over her time (and emails) at the State Department. He doesn't want the race to turn into a war of words or a battle to see who can sink lower in terms of personal attacks.

Yeah good luck with that. This is about Biden’s history for most people and Harris just highlights it.

Harris, by contrast, had no obvious weakness that the Trump campaign would exploit.

Wanna bet?

is that that chipotle-lime butter recipe I mentioned yesterday is absolutely dynamite when melted and poured over popcorn. We're gonna need a bigger bowl...

This is going to be engrossing to watch, very much like the old staged headon collisions of steam locomotives. Slightly sad, because of the senseless waste of otherwise perfectly good machinery, but engrossing just the same. Just wait for that grinding crash and the explosive release of steam, and the occasional grievous injury among the close-in bystanders...

... is another good reason not to vote for Biden. If I wasn't almost there after the Tara Reade allegations, this move is enough to push me over the edge. Other than the excellent points raised by Tulsi in the 45 seconds of allotted debate time (by way of comparison, they let Kamala go almost two minutes over the time limit with her "and that little girl was me" attack on Biden whom she now seems willing to suck up to), consider this:

1. She refused to take actions vs the Catholic Church for their long-standing cover up of numerous instances of child abuse by priests in CA, an action that is now being belatedly undertaken by her successor as CA AG.
2. She accepted a plea deal with no jail time for the Dem Mayor of San Diego, "Filthy Filner," then went after Acosta who actually got jail time in his plea deal with Epstein in FL.
3. She went after Brett Kavanaugh and accepted Blasey-Ford's account without alot of corroboration but turned a deaf ear to Tara Reade's allegations when Read had like eight or nine corroborating witnesses or evidence (like the Larry King tape and her ex-husband's lawsuit).

She's the ultimate phony political animal. If she were an animal, she'd be a chameleon, the animal that changes its spots with the surroundings. She was probably my most hated candidate in the primaries (oh, right, she didn't make it to the actual voting), along with Bootyjudge. If she were a movie character, she'd be the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz.

Aug. 12 'Biden picks former law-and-order prosecutor Kamala Harris to be his Democratic running mate (one brief excerpt)

Biden has a 48-year political career in which he has been identified primarily with intensified police repression at home and the ferocious defense of the interests of American imperialism abroad. The 77-year-old candidate will now have a 55-year-old running mate with her own right-wing credentials: as a law-and-order prosecutor and attorney general in California, and, since coming to Washington in 2016, an advocate and defender of the military-intelligence apparatus.

Over half of likely voters don’t believe Joe Biden will finish first term: poll

The poll, released Monday by Rasmussen Reports, found that 59 percent of likely voters thought it was probable that Biden’s running mate would become president over the course of the four-year span.
...
Divided up by party, even 49 percent of likely Democratic voters said they believed Biden’s veep would take over the job.
Seventy-three percent of Republicans and 57 percent of non-party-affiliated likely voters also said they did not believe Biden would be able to last the entirety of his term.

Remember the PUMAs (party unity my ass)? They were staunch Hillaryites. and ultimately weren't much of a factor. However, embedded in their complaint was one from the suffragettes; women take a back seat to black men.

2016 -- throughout the campaign we heard over and over again from women that they just wanted to elect a woman POTUS (regardless of any other factor). And yet, as a percentage of the electorate, the women's vote declined from 53% in '08 to 52% in '16 and Obama received 56% of the women's vote and Clinton only received 54%. White vote - Obama 43% and Clinton 37%, and contrary to HRC's whining about AA not showing up, the white vote was 74% in '08 and only 70% in '16.

Now the 'pink pussy hats' have another opportunity to elect the first female POTUS. But will they?
