Tuesday Open Thread ~ I’m Running Out of Metaphors
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” ~ John Lubbock
Good Morning,
Have decided to take a few days off from everything this week and spend my time daydreaming of a place where the only sounds I hear is a soft spring breeze running it's fingers through the trees. Will be back next Tuesday. Please keep safe and healthy.
The Panther
Rainer Maria Rilke - 1875-1926
His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.
As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.
Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly--. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

I saw an online tutorial about how to make masks from old clothes, so I cut up this old pair of shorts! I had to hand sew it, and it came out too small, but it's not bad for a first try! What do you think? pic.twitter.com/ZFvFmh97xz

Good morning, Anja ~~
Hope you are doing well, my friend, and happy you are taking time just for you.
Love that dog picture! Bow-wow!
Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Time off
Glad to hear you are taking a break! Enjoy the time and hope you get rested and restored!
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Good morning Anja. Do enjoy our time off and I hope your
dreams are able to get you to that place. Maybe headphones, a tape of forest sounds and one of those small usb powered desk fans. Would a hammock help? You've inspired me to go try to hang one in the patio.
I recognize the dog but my memory isn't doing its job this morning, so I can't recall the name of either the artist or the work. Maybe somebody here will come up with it.
EDIT: It's Girl With a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, wonderfully well done.
As to your title, that's no biggie, after all, what are metas for?
be well and have a wonderful relaxing happy day.

Good morning!
I thought the guy making his own mask was great. He thought every thing through, except for his selfie.
I will make a small bank deposit today, the first in 2 weeks. Good grief.
I have enough work at the office to keep me busy for a few hours, then I will return home to
what was my refuge, but what is now my prison compound.
After my weird dead hand episode, I am able to hold a coffee cup, albeit a small one.
Baby steps.
My paralegal and I had a serious discussion about how I might make some fashion statement out of a floppy hand that sort of curled awkwardly. Perhaps a sparkling bracelet?
Yesterday morning, while driving to the er, I was on a call with a site member.
On the way back home, I spoke with 2 members.
One of them suggested I carry a small, fancy dog in my weird hand. Between a fancy dog and fancy bracelet, I think this will work.
Great minds, etc...
That's what friends are for, and Anja, you got 'em.
See you next week!

relaxing in nature sure helps, enjoy your week Anja
Now I wouldn't recommend this approach for making a mask...but it sure was entertaining.
I think you all might enjoy the 4 min lesson...

Reckon I'll stick with my bandana with added paper towel and tissue technique.
el's mention of vermeer reminds me of the documentary called "Tim's Vermeer"

He uses a camera obscura and mirrors to recreate a Vermeer painting.

Still laughing!
Finally got around to watching this. OMG! That is SO funny!
Thanks, Lookout.
Thank You Anja, enjoy resting, you have earned it
so much. It took me a long time to understand you and your written words, and I wanted to apologize for it before it is too late. There is so much change, I think we can change too.
Be well and safe.

To quote a famous character:
"There is never enough time to do all the nothing you want." - Calvin to Hobbes sitting under an apple tree on a gorgeous summer day.
The grown up Calvin of 2020 might quibble with his own youthful wisdom. Hobbes would just roll his eyes although that's not easy to depict in a comic strip. Hobbes, the ever wiser one, knows that people will be right back to being too busy to little purpose in no time at all and begging for some downtime. Even a comic strip tiger knows most humans lack the ability to live in the moment. We could learn a lot from a stuffed tiger or, for most of us without someone as wise as a stuffed tiger, our dogs. They know exactly how to live in the now.
"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."
Thanks!
I enjoyed your poetry and videos!
Rest well!
