Many people are making the BernieOrElse pledge Updated

.

I took the pledge of not voting for democrats after Obama voted for the FISA bill. That he then stacked his cabinet with Citibank just reinforced my decision.

We have waited long enough for democrats to do the right thing for us. Seeing what Pelosi is doing right now shows that they never will.

Refusal by Pelosi to Consider Universal Cash Payments in Response to Coronavirus Pandemic 'Maddening,' Say Progressives

Progressives erupted with frustration and anger Wednesday over days of reporting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would not consider cash payments for Americans without means-testing despite the ongoing coronavirus outbreak that has ground the U.S. economy almost to a standstill.

President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans have taken the opportunity to outflank Pelosi and House Democrats on the payments, leading to anger from the left.

"I truly don't know how to describe how maddening it is that Republicans and Trump officials are to the left of Congressional Dem leadership on this issue," tweeted activist Jordan Uhl.

Direct cash payments would be a salve to the gaping wound left in the U.S. economy by the pandemic.

"We are the wealthiest nation in human history, and have the lowest borrowing costs of any major government on the planet, and thus, can easily afford to contain the pandemic and keep our people well provisioned simultaneously," Eric Levitz wrote Tuesday for New York Magazine. "All we need is for Congress to overcome its superstitions about deficits, and supply the economy with the many trillions of dollars in stimulus that even many center-right economists say we need."

On Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told congressional Republicans that the White House was putting together a package that would send out $250 billion in checks by the end of April, though they would be means-tested to some degree, meaning wealthier families wouldn't get them.

Separately, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports a more targeted approach to those hit hardest by any economic downturn, as opposed to money sent to every American, and Pelosi wants this done via refundable tax credits, expanded unemployment, and possibly direct cash payments as well.

"Nancy Pelosi is officially to the right of Tom Cotton on economic support for American families," HuffPost reporter Zach Carter tweeted on Sunday. "This is a total failure of Democratic Party leadership."

Pelosi's deputy chief of staff Drew Hammill on Twitter Tuesday emphasized that any aid "MUST be targeted" for the Speaker to approve it, drawing further anger from the left.

"Why?" asked New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie. "If we agree that the crisis is stark and immediate, and we know that precise targeting takes time and administrative effort, why make that a requirement when you can simply disburse the funds *now* and collect from high-income recipients *later*?"

Democrat Joe Manchin voted against the bill and with republicans while Bernie He's not a democrat voted for it and with democrats. Huh go figure.

Update:

Trump is appealing the decision to not allow 700,000 people to be kicked off food stamps.

This is beyond appalling and especially now when so many more people will not be working and the ones affected by the Trump rules will not have a chance to find a job. But then this whole shit stain belongs to Bill Clinton and the witch he is married to because of their getting welfare reform passed. Gee I wonder what roll Joe Biden had in this?

The country is ripe for an uprising if the government doesn't do everything it can to help us. But the window for it is going to be short lived because the PTB will enact a police state if those plans are not already in the works. And remember that our police forces has been sent to Israel to be trained by its military.

This might be where Obama's NDAA comes into play. Oh yes any response to us rising up has been well planned in advance.

Let's see if Sanders can hold out till the actual holding of the democratic convention.
He said he would last time. He didn't.
Will he once again support the party?
Or will he, perhaps, beyond all that is normal, support a third party move and proudly admit that he's an independant?
My odds are poor.
Yet what the fuck is he waiting for?

We keep voting for things we want, but the legislature over writes it and changes it to what the Mormon church wants. This happened with Medicaid expansion and legalizing marijuana. They didn't like what we voted for so they just made both worse. We voted down a gas tax they tried to do it anyway. They tried raising taxes on food we did get that overturned, but they are going to keep trying.

Even when the church stays quiet on things they just tell their members during church services what they want done. There is no separation of church and state here. People say that they will vote people out, but there are always more of them waiting in the wings.

Ben McAdams has tested positive for the virus and will stay home. The article on this said congress is on recess this week. I'm not sure what to believe.

How could they be so stupid? There really is nothing to recommend Biden as a President, so they've decided to lower the bar to "he's better than Trump," and back up this bar-lowering with bullying tactics. Everything else is just cognitive dissonance. Yeah, keep it up, Biden bullies. Your candidate will lose in November and you will prove me right.

We don't really know if Biden would make anything of a better President than Trump, and in fact we'll never know. We do know that Biden opposes Medicare for All, and thus he's totally okay with thousands of people dying each year (already) because their "access to medical care" is conditional upon either bankruptcy or emergency rooms or both.

11 Things You Should Know Before Voting for Joe Biden

The first thing to know is:

Biden Is More Pro-Life Than You Think

and here's the key passage:

As recently as 2019, Biden still supported the Hyde Amendment, but, after receiving considerable criticism, he now claims to oppose it. However, if you expect a more liberal Supreme Court under his Presidency, you may be disappointed.

Everyone, I'm quoting this passage because "omigod the Supreme Court!" is the usual lesser-evil firewall against the claim that Democrats cannot defend us against Republicans. Well, in Biden's case, they clearly can't. Here's one scenario: coronavirus makes Trump look bad, Bernie concedes, Biden wins, Biden nominates a pro-life judge to the Supreme Court, and Roe v. Wade is overturned.

The problem is of course that all of the scenarios look bad, and that (as I've said multiple times over) we need a movement that can survive Bernie. So far we don't have one. Is anyone here interested in anything more than sitting back and complaining?

Clarence Thomas might not have been confirmed if Joe f'cking Biden had let Anita Hill tell her story without Biden standing in the way. As well as the other woman who wanted to testify about what Thomas did to them.

This is what you say to people when they say that we must elect ByeDone because of Ruth Ginsberg. You know the lady who has had one foot in the grave for years. She could have stepped down during Obama's tenure and when republicans blocked him he and the democrats could have f'cking fought them. Es there were things that they could have done to force McConnell to bring Garland up for a vote. They just didn't do it. Just like they didn't really try to block Kavanaugh's appointment. Oh well better luck next time right?

Is anyone here interested in anything more than sitting back and complaining?

...that rise up. There always are. The past 20 years have been an endless parade of movements joined by newly awakened Americans. These movements are ignored by most Americans, so the state has no need to counter them overtly. Meanwhile, there is a constant but disconnected stream of subtle laws and court decisions underway that strengthen the current two party system in the US and render any other constructs legally impossible and ultimately unconstitutional.

If a movement does gain traction, the nation's media will take them out long before they ever become a matter for the courts. Of that we can be sure.

Yet, there will always be a never-ending stream of movements.

What happens during this time of crisis is not a "political" surprise to the majority of Americans, including so-called progressives. Very few of the nation's leaders have hidden what kind of people they are and what they believe in. Anything political that comes out of this crisis will be publicized only to make people come to the defense of their political Party — in order to maintain the state of paralyzing polarity the real Rulers rely upon.

Yes, a few Democratic leaders hide what they are — but only to dupe the Left into staying inside the Democratic Party. We all knew that... right? At some decisive point those leaders will publicly uncloak themselves to take action in a crisis, and in doing so they reveal their true colors. But after they pull on their costumes once more, and the "progressives" fully trust them again. What other non-suicidal choice do progressive politicians have? Obama did this repeatedly during his Presidency. Progressives closed their eyes and embraced the fact that Republicans hated Obama. They immersed themselves and their constituents in Republican hatred. And, thus, the endless circle was closed once more. This is the dharma of those who participate in US elections.

These are bitter times for the small handful of Americans who have the eyes to see it and understand what they are seeing. It is only natural to assume that the population can see what you do. But they cannot. And even if they could see it, they would deny it.

Right now, about 50 percent of the US population is engaged in making a short-term decision that they believe will benefit themselves and their family. They are pushed to make this decision by the November deadline. When they vote, they buy-in psychologically to the current system. Approximately half of those who vote will lose the election. The losers will enter a four-year period of political crisis.

Those who do not step up and record their short-term decision by voting — instantly become part of the other 50 percent of eligible Americans who chose not to vote. These folks are never disappointed by politicians. If they are troubled by the conditions, they expatriate.

Out of all of this, a few will rise up and start a new movement.

They always do.

The wise thing to do when you are caught in a political dead-end is to think first of yourself, not your country. Use your resources and energy to find a way to quietly thrive. Take care of the ones you love and help them become worldly and self-sufficient. Explore all alternative options that others have chosen to help them permanently transcend the current situation.

Is it possible to escape the reckonings that are coming America's way for the harm the US has done in the world? A buffet of consequences await us.

is to take the middle road and work to take care of your neighborhoods: your family and the other families that live there. Or, if you live in a place small enough, your towns, but most people don't live in towns that small.

The nuclear family doesn't do well under stress; it's for times of prosperity. Even the extended family is not as good as being able to band together with those in your neighborhood: an association of families, if you will. That said, it's hard to do. I haven't done it, partly because I fear infection, having an immunocompromised person in the house, but even more because it is socially precarious in American culture to suggest economic co-operation except in the most severe circumstances. You risk offending the person (as if you're calling them poor) or engendering suspicion (why does this person want to get involved in my affairs?)

Our culture is not a great one. You and I differ on the relationship of American culture to the disastrous age we live in, but we agree on the fact that American culture was never very strong.

...to me:

The nuclear family doesn't do well under stress; it's for times of prosperity. etc.

I've always idealized the commune, since that was the lifestyle humanity for the past 100,000 years up until the last 5000 years or so. I figured it was like riding a bicycle, with all that evolution under its belt they would still remember how to ride. People would naturally coalesce into a working community. Communal groups may have been filled with unwelcome drama, but they did foster survival. It was communes that brought humanity across a vast ocean of time to the present.

Modern cultures don't really have rulers. Some may still think they do, and that's okay. But the truth is they have Corporations to provide for them. Everything that modern existence requires is dependent upon the corporations — food, defense, health, transportation, entertainment, communications. At no time did the Coronavirus pose a threat to the survival of the species. The threat it poses is to our Corporations. The markets are collapsing. Which corporations do we save?

I see an ant's nest that gets flooded. The ants pour out of the nest each carrying a large white egg, swarming and looking for direction. These are the assets. The civilization has suffered a dislocation and the assets must be preserved.

At the moment, for us, assets are the big concern. They might continue to hold their value, or their value might deflate to nothing because the overhead is too expensive and there is too much risk. The value of assets may blow up like a balloon because uncertainty causes competition to buy and resell assets in a cycle of inflation. Each of those three possibilities describe a very different outcome for the People.

We throw money and bailouts at the situation first to try to stabilize the value of assets. That is the ideal outcome. If they slip into devaluation or become hyper-inflated, life will be very bad for the people. The only things they can have are the things they can produce themselves. They much find a way to grow food and sell their labor for cheap. This is when People must rise up and take over the means of production if they are to survive. The capitalists will always be wiped out if they do not keep society healthy and wealthy. They keep forgetting that. That's where we are again.

@Pricknick
The system needs to be burned to the ground. Change comes from chaos, in part, because those in power lose their grip. We have two massive changes in the works, the pandemic and the associated economic collapse. We need a third, and that is the collapse of the Republican-Democrat hold on political power. Yes it's risky but the die has been cast and the old system is hopeless. We can't possibly progress through the 21st century with America the way it exists. We can't take it and the world can't take it.

We all are going to have a difficult choice in November. We can't vote for Biden, that is obvious, but what do we do? Voting for Trump is twice as effective numerically as voting third party or not at all. One could consider it voting against the status quo Democratic party. The message is simple. You, the Democratic Party, claim to represent liberal, people oriented, ideology in the US, yet you present a firewall against progressive change, and represent the interests of the corporations. Why should I not vote against you?????

Bailout Nation: US Movie Theaters Join Airlines, Hotels And Restaurants In Demanding A Taxpayer Bailout

Back in 2008, when the US government bailed out the US banking sector, it became clear that virtually any industry in America's $18 trillion economy could pass off for "too big to fail." So fast forward to today when the longest expansion in history has mutated in under a month into the biggest market crash since the Great Depression, and sure enough, virtually any industry is trying to get bailed out.

Consider this - until today, the US government and by implication US taxpayers, had received bailout requests both direct or indirect from:

The Airline Industry
The Public transportation industry
The Hotel and lodging industry
The Restaurant Industry
And, of course, Boeing.
And now, demonstrating just how fucked up everything has become once the government has opened the Pandora's Box of government bailouts, US movie theaters are also demanding a bailout.

That's right: movie theaters are now somehow a systemically important industry, one which deserves billions in taxpayer funds. And even if it doesn't, well everyone else is getting bailed out so why not them too.

According to AP, the National Association of Theater Owners (also known as NATO, but definitely not to be confused with that other NATO), the trade group that represents most of the industry’s cinemas, said Wednesday that it’s asking for immediate federal help for its chains and its 150,000 employees. The theaters are requesting loan guarantees for exhibitors, tax benefits for employees and funds to compensate for lost ticket sales and concessions.

But, imagine if Biden then chose her as his VP. I'd feel like I was living in a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

It's clear that the DNC would rather have Trump than Bernie. I have been telling friends (as many of you have) that they will never let Bernie be the nominee -- even if they have to disappear him. This is the second run in a row that they've done the same thing. The strategy of "taking over" the party when the DNC controls the elections will never work.
Just as in 2016, elections were called for Biden before the vote was counted. In states where the machine wasn't as strong, and where Bernie was ahead, 3 things have happened:
(1) REFUSAL TO COUNT BERNIE WINS: We still don't have delegate counts in states like Utah and Colorado that Bernie won before Obama called out the vigilantes, and we will probably never get them.
(2) VOTER SUPPRESSION: In states like Texas where there is clear evidence that the votes were not counted, legal action will take way too long, and it seems that voter suppression can never be challenged (remember Brooklyn?)
(3) MANIPULATION OF VOTE COUNTS: Just as with HRC, when votes are counted slowly -- in states where Bernie is pulling ahead -- it's amazing how the DNC finds more votes for Biden as they slow-walk the results. In 2016, HRC's votes would come in late at night and just enough would be found in key DNC machine strongholds to edge out Bernie. In 2020, it actually takes them weeks to get to manufacture bogus results, and the MSM never questions this.
In both 2016 and 2020, we are told that the votes of people in state that never vote Blue in the general election-- and instructed directly by the machine - provide the compelling case for why the machine candidate is inevitable. John Lewis and Jim Clyburn have both betrayed the trust of their people. Both HRC and Biden have won overwhelmingly in the Red States -- how'd that turn out for you last time DNC?
By taking this pledge, we have to acknowledge that the DNC will never let Bernie run. It's unfortunate that he didn't go 3rd party this time, but I understand the strategy of trying to let the votes of the masses be counted (especially in the era of Trump) -- he's just way too kind and trusting to beat the DNC and the Obama/Clinton cabal.
This is the 2d time that they've tried to bully us into voting for someone that no one wants -- by threatening the horrors of Trump.
This pledge means that the Democrats will never be a repository for our votes any more -- we have to continue to vote for Bernie during this cycle, even as a protest, and at the same time we have to work to build a true people's party. Voting for a Zombie candidate is simply not an option.

@MsDidi

Now we know he's a loose cannon that occasionally rolls left as well as right, and we've survived almost four years of his assholery.

The boogeyman is not so frightening when he is too familiar.

I know I've signed a couple of pledges. No way in hell will I vote for Joe. I changed my affiliation yesterday. I cannot and will not support a party that continues to shit all over me.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but don't we have insurance for businesses that will pay for lost income? Should they have not purchased said insurance?

And yes, Snoopy, I could use that hug. Preferably from the cutie in the video! My little one is not much of a cuddler, but she does soothe the pain, a little. Hoping we do the same for her.

@mypiece

I am so grateful for Charlie and her fun antics that make me laugh when the stress becomes unbearable. I would love to have a golden, but I don't like long hair on dawgs and I have always given mine a field cut. Springer and 2 springer/lab mixes which I did myself. Can you imagine a shaved golden retriever? lol

I am off for our walk. It just rained so it will smell good out. Love this smell and spring is sprunging.
