Global Forever War Update

There's good news and bad news.
First the bad news. At least this would count as bad news if Americans gave a f*ck about Somalia.

The U.S. military says it has carried out two new airstrikes in Somalia against the al-Shabab extremist group but will no longer give details on fighters killed or damage done.
...The United States has dramatically stepped up airstrikes against al-Shabab in Somalia since President Donald Trump took office, carrying out at least 47 last year to diminish the Islamic extremist group’s “safe havens.”

Who did we kill? How many did we kill? It's just Somalians, so who cares, amirite?
Now some good news from Yemen.

The U.S. military conducted 36 airstrikes against terrorist groups in Yemen in 2018, Central Command said Monday.

The figure is a significant drop from 2017’s 120-plus airstrikes, which was a spike from previous years.
...
The remaining 26 strikes were all against AQAP and break down into six in February, seven in March, four in April, two in May, two in June, two in July, one in August and two in September.

There were no strikes in the final three months of 2018.

We are almost not bombing Yemen anymore, which is a good trend.
Now some even better news from Afghanistan.

The Taliban has reportedly made a major concession to the US during their peace talks in Afghanistan, according to the Wall Street Journal.

As US diplomatic officials and leaders of the insurgent group discuss the end of the 17-year war in Afghanistan, one source familiar with the talks told the Journal that the Taliban has agreed to oppose "any attempts by militant groups to use Afghanistan to stage terrorist attacks abroad."

The concessions, if finalized, would seem to support an eventual US withdrawal on the grounds that Afghanistan, even under the Taliban, would not become a safe haven for terrorists to train and launch attacks outside the country.

That's an important point, and is our way out of Afghanistan.
The problem is that Washington doesn't want to leave.

A recent survey found that 57 percent of Americans, including 69 percent of military veterans, said they would support a decision by the president to remove all troops from Afghanistan. But Washington’s foreign-policy elites—neoconservatives, defense hawks, and liberal interventionists alike—reject such a notion. According to Richard Hass , president of the Council on Foreign Relations, “Neither winning the war nor negotiating a lasting peace is a real option in Afghanistan. Just leaving, though, as we are about to do in Syria, would be a mistake .”

What?!? WHAT!?!
We can't win, but we can't leave? That's insane.

by nobody. Because it would be insane to say your plans had been sane, if they had been factuallz insane. Losing face and jobs over admitting to insanity, will not happen.

It's a mistake to get insane - as a listener - over it.

Sigh. Frozen shit burns your toes.

Thanks for all your work you post and the links in here. We always learn something. What we can do with it, I don't know, but at least it feels better to listen and read than to see no evil, hear no evil. Etc.

batteries in your phone. Controlling that natural resource for profit, might be considered "sane", by some.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

@divineorder
Wall builders and bomb makers are leading the rally to gift gazillionaires with more profits. Devos cheers. The rest of us suffer.

Whew. I had to get that off my chest. Nor do they have any right to alter internal affairs in:
Afghanistan
Libya
Somalia
Iran
Iraq
Syria
Yemen
Ukraine
Nicaragua
Columbia
Japan
Philadelphia
Panama
(probably missing a few)

When do the 'murican news consumers get a clue?

@QMS

When do the 'murican news consumers get a clue?

When? Probably not until the drooling, black-clad killers break down their front door. Hell, maybe not even then. After all, those guys have American flags on their sleeves...

The patriotic duty of citizens to give up civil liberties (nothing to fear if innocent) because it is written in stone by CNN, Fox, MSNBC, NY Times, Washington Post, Sinclair Broadcasting, etc. Even Congress and the executive branches agree. Justice ain't that far behind. Why? Search me.
