Maybe happen is never once but like ripples maybe on water after the pebble sinks, the ripples moving on, spreading, the pool attached by a narrow umbilical water-cord to the next pool which the first pool feeds, has fed, did feed, let this second pool contain a different temperature of water, a different molecularity of having seen, felt, remembered, reflect in a different tone the infinite unchanging sky, it doesn’t matter: that pebble’s watery echo whose fall it did not even see moves across its surface too at the original ripple-space, to the old ineradicable rhythm…” ~ Falkner

Governor Whitmer (D-MI) names Blue Cross CEO to transition team
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co_BlcUg2WU]
Well, that didn’t take long.
Don't be silly. All Dems are for Medicare for All.
"We make a lot of money off of people's illness"
"We're Blue Cross." Thanks, that made me LOL. Guffaw!
Blue Cross/Blue Shield, what would we do without bean counters denying people their health care?
Where would those people work after getting rid of the crap "Health Insurance" label, and just having the over-priced Medicare4All doctors and pHarma denying people their right to pursue a healthy life? lol I guess the CEOs would start working for CMS? (single payer of medicare bills). Public/private kinda thing?
mindlessly inquiring cynic
eyo, be safe out there and hang on.

hi and thanks for hosting Saturday OT. They are always so beautiful, thanks a lot.
Y'all are so kind and understanding, I can't believe no one has banned me yet for being too illin' and grouchy. saints
Anyone else notice the c99 file uploader is working great? Very responsive, I don't know why. Either I unblocked a script, or JtC did some magic to make it fly. I vote for JtC. Three cheers!
exiv2 is an awesome little utility that comes with my Slackware Linux. I just learned how to strip out the stupid binary comments my Kodak EZ Share embeds in every single photo. It reduced the file size by almost half! doh Kodak
"exiv2 -de rootbound.jpg" That there deletes all the Exif info out of the jpg file, a nice handy privacy feature too.
praise bob!
good day
My pleasure, eyo,
sincerely; you folks help me a lot more than i can contribute to you.
Think i'm the old codger here; i can be incorrigible.
Great news about hecate and please take precautions yourself, that smoke is deadly as well.
You bring so much good info to c99 and i love your fabulous wit making this a good place to be.
Have a safe and lovely evening.
Thanks for the tip about exiv2
Turns out it is on Ubuntu Mate as well. Tried it. Very slick!!!
Cool. Hope all is well with you.

PG&E power lines may have sparked Camp Fire
All my life I've paid the Pigs Goats and Elephants to keep the lights and gas on. At some point (probably the Clinton years) they outsourced line maintenance to sub-contractors and this is what we get for jacked up rates (solar is more expensive, until it's not).
PG&E power lines may have sparked deadly Camp Fire, according to radio transmissions
What are we gonna do, boycott PGE? This is a
DemocratUniParty problem, corruption stinks up our utilities and the PUC is populated with corporate cronies. fuck those guys9 deaths, 6,453 homes burned in most destructive wildfire in California history
Praying for hecate, and every thing.

Hola
I saw your comment and have been meaning to get up with you. Things have been a bit turbulent for the last couple months, requiring parenting of an adult child. That and being light on funds, post trip. My sister and daughter have made it their life mission to overbook me for holiday get togethers, and of course a few hours drive each time. I'll keep an eye on the weather. As long as it is dry and above ~45F, I can ride out. It should be between leaves/football and skiing now.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
Morning Tim, mountain started snowmaking last night ...
would love your company; not advising this week as it near single digits by Wednesday; but you know how our southern winters are; could become 60 degrees in short order.
Understand the growing process a little; thankfully, my one, 36, seems to have found a niche compromise in the mountain climbing business and teaching yoga; even took my advise a few weeks ago.
Fortunate to have a loving daughter-in-law; she's an animal lover; especially dogs; though i don't get to see them often; on their last visit, i took joy in seeing their morning reactions to each other; marriage when it works; splendid.
Until then, "keep your eyes on the horizon and your nose in the wind."
Good morning, smiley ~~
I awaken to a foggy morning.
What’s this? Fog again?
Tuesday last brought the morning fog
to this arid desert valley.
The climate seems to be changing
in this area so vast.
I welcome the moisture
but do not trust it is here to last.
Have a beautiful day, everyone!
P.S. I do hope we hear from Hecate soon.

RA, an image came to be when reading your poem ...
a memory of the land where antelopes play. When living in Ashland, i would drive due east, up around 10-11 thousand feet to a plateau and fish for trout.
Thanks for that. Water, hum, do you need a divining rod to find a well site; i recall the old-timers using them; plus toying around with them as well, they work, magic.
A beautiful day and weekend to you, RA.

a well-Witcher did come out and do his thing. We’ll find out in due time! Enjoy!

Goo morning, Smiley. Thanks for the tunes and the OT.
Prepping for nest week's camping trip. Finishing packing/loading for tomorrow's departure and then we'll clean the remaining carpets (we tore most of them out). That will give them a week to dry while we're gone. Skipping the farmers' market, which seems weird. Planted a toyon yesterday just as the waxwings moved into the hood. Next year they'll have some extra berries with any luck.
Have yourself a good one.

Looking forward to a few tales from the road.
Happy and safe camping, to you two.
Good morning Smiley7 and all Caucusers!
Have a beautiful weekend.
A beautiful weekend back to you, Henry; always good to see you.

Hope you a beautiful weekend across the sea.
Good morning!
Hope we hear from hecate soon. I'm sure most of us feel this way, but when he writes an essay, I feel like I need to take special time and space just to absorb and enjoy it. Safety to you and your animals, hecate!
A couple of gardening things. Still no frost here, and I hope it stays away! Beautiful tomato plants finally this year. Two pics below of a recent harvest.
Sunchokes or Jerusalem Artichokes
The last of the sweetcorn.
I know now that I need to plant sweetcorn for a fall harvest. This is the best corn we have ever had. Sprout the seeds and plant them late July, early August in heavily amended soil. It is the first time we have ever gotten full size ears. I even put some in the freezer.
The sunchokes are a fantastic discovery! Last spring I ordered online and got about ten little tubers. These things grew to be about 10 ft tall, a very pretty sunflower plant. I harvested some about a week ago. The tubers taste very much like potatoes. The handiest thing about them is that they are perennials. They can be invasive, but if you have a spot where they can go wild, what a deal. Of the ones I harvested, the bigger ones I am scrubbing, blanching, chopping in the food processor and throwing in the freezer for stews and potato type dishes. The small ones I planted and gave some to my neighbor to plant. One plant can produce about ten pounds of tubers.
Sunchokes also own numerous health benefits:
https://www.donnieyance.com/sunchokes-a-humble-food-with-many-health-ben...
A word of caution though . . . take it easy when you are eating them for the first time. As with many similar foods, they can have the same effect as eating a large pot of beans!
Happy Saturday everyone!

Nice bounty you got there, Marilyn
I didn't know you were a Gardner.
I like what you said about Hecate's writing. It's what I feel too.

Good harvest, Marilyn
You're doing better with the corn than I, although I'm 100 miles north of you. Maybe in a couple of years, as the climate changes, I'll have better luck. Of course, by then, you may be able to grow avocadoes. Ha ha.
Hoping we hear from Hecate soon.

I adore your garden's harvest. And just imagine what you could cook with those vegetables.

Do you need a cook, Marilyn? :)
Photos make me hungry for fresh garden produce. Big thanks for sharing. Never tasted a sunchoke, doubt i ever saw them.
Hey, browsed your website last week, good work on those courses.
Been an in-and-out day for me, unexpected visit. hecate is safe, thank goodness; see johnny's new essay.
Appreciate your contributions to our community very much and i hope you and family have a marvelous weekend.
The Turkeys Arrived
Yesterday at the store where I work and we are ramping up for the weekend rush. I made sure to buy my Sister one of the Advent Calendars we have for dogs before they run out, which they will pretty quickly. It's a silly item but it will make my Sister smile, and she needs some smiling right now.
Yesterday, a family who had evacuated out of Ventura County also came into the store. The young boy seemed oddly chipper about it, as if it were all a great adventure. The parents less so. I felt so awful for them, I couldn't bring myself to ask for any details. It just seemed invasive. So I talked about the enchilada sauce they bought and how one of the ways my German mother adapted to California was by making a really good enchilada casserole.
But my thoughts, naturally, turned to Hecate, and hoping he's buying enchilada sauce somewhere right now listening to some silly woman talk about casseroles.

Love your doggie advent calendar!
Thanks for the sweet comments and for the story about the family. Glad the little boy was oddly chipper. Protection of sorts for the moment.

You make a good point
Children have their own ways of coping.
If you have a Trader Joe's in your area and want to buy a doggie advent calendar, I recommend getting them soon. They'll probably be gone before Thanksgiving.

Hi zoebear,
Cute calendar, love it, want one, but no TJ"s in the high country, unfortunately. TJ's have some good comparative deals on a few of the staples i use, like tahini, for instance, for about half the price. On occasions, i stop by the Chapel Hill Store when down there.
My stove elements burned out last week; and to replace them, you have to have clear access and room to maneuver from the back. Bad thing is, i will have to do a major move around of shelving, a big job, so not sure what i'll do for thanksgiving as i always cook a turkey, and different kinds of dressings, which i really enjoy doing.
Wild Turkeys are abundant here; fun to watch them too, wow, they can dance.
A few smiles for you today from our online community. Have a wonderful weekend.
Dancing Turkeys
Shame about your oven. Have you considered getting a special Turkey oven? They're not that expensive and even when you do have use of your oven again, it can free up a lot of space for other things you need to make in the oven on Thanksgiving day.
https://www.amazon.com/slp/turkey-oven/3qr3v3v2ef4htov
I've never seen a wild turkey and had no idea they dance. I think that's a good thing because I wouldn't like to eat something I knew could dance. Eating meat is something I've considered eventually giving up. Especially as a practicing Buddhist. It's one of those things that, strictly speaking, is not in keeping with the idea of respecting all life. It's a tough one for me because I like to cook, and I like to eat, and part of that includes beautiful roasts. Perhaps, like the traditions of Native Americans, I'll begin with a prayer acknowledging my roasted Turkeys life and thank him for his sacrifice.
Another thing about Turkeys...
The first time I visited East Berlin to see my extended family, we had a lot of unintentionally comical moments over language miscommunications. One in particular was when we were talking a walk in Berlin's Tiergarten, a park in the middle of the city, where my cousin remarked that sometimes there were a lot of Turkeys sleeping in the park. Really? Wild Turkeys in the middle of Berlin? How odd. So I asked her how they migrated into the city and she replied "usually they come by air." Turkeys fly? That can't be right.
My cousin, seeing the quizzical look on my face, sensed something had gone wrong in the translation, and indeed it had because my cousin was referring to the Turkish immigrants in Berlin, not the bird.
Ha! We all got a big laugh over that one!
Hope your Thanksgiving is thankful and you are surrounded by people who love and appreciate you. Thanks for the smiles

zoebear, in take off, a turkey accelerates just fast enough,
getting airborne the moment before a along-legged dog can catch them. Jackson (our family dog) got a mouth of feathers once in the woods. The take off isn't very graceful, but powerful.
Peacock dance from the male turkeys, but the whole flock joins in at times becoming an ensemble; like people--i just thought after a moments review of this--no, the turkeys dance like Martha Graham in community with the reaches and height of Baryshnikov. edit or like a whirling dervish.
Cheers for the cooker idea; didn't know they existed. I bake a lot of bread, too, especially in winter; so, i've a chore to do just as i hope to get busier. Thanks again for thinking about my needs.
Someday, lets all have a reunion:
