Wednesday Open Thread: Want the Truth? Heh, silly you.
It's Day 297 of the Year 2018 CE
So, October 24, 2018 - for my reference if nothing else.
Goebbels may or may not have said "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. ", but if he did, he was right. According to Counterpunch:
Repetition is the way the big lies are adopted as truths: Tell the same falsehood 26 times, according to advertising industry research, and the audience will accept it as common knowledge.

Advertising, PR, and propaganda are all peas in a pod. So, of late, are "News" and government announcements and information. This is not to say that any and all information provided by such sources is necessarily false, only that the incessant repetition which they practice creates "truth" regardless of the actual truth or falsity of the assertions being constantly repeated. Unjustifiable linguistic insinuations of veracity are part and parcel of the problem as well. Back around the 19th or so a source spoke about the impact of all of Turkey's "revelations" about Kashoggi. Sorry, folks, but, Turkey "revealed" zip shit they, instead, asserted and alleged much. The past several years have seen an increasing use of this type of misuse of language, as well as repetition that, malicious or not, has created an endless stream of unverified and unsubstantiated "truths", some of which became known to be false, many more of which are probably also false, and some of which are probably true.
So I'm going to pass on further verbiage today and just celebrate a few musical personages who were either born or died on this day in various years.
Saunders Teddell, or Saunders Terrell, Sonny Terry: born October 24, 1911. A practitioner of Piedmont Blues and general folk music, vocals and harmonica. Probably best known for his collaborations with fellow Piedmont Blues player Brownie McGhee. Recieved a nod from Van Morrison on "Cleaning Windows"
Willie Mabon: R&B singer, songwriter and pianist, born October 24, 1925.Had one of Chess Records' biggest hits until Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley came along, which was also one of the first R&B hit records covered by a mainstream white artist.
Jiles Perry "J. P." Richardson Jr., "The Big Bopper": a rockabilly musician, singer and songwriter born October 24, 1930. Died in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens.
William George Perks Jr, Bill Wyman: bass player, all around musician, singer, singwriter and producer born October 24, 1936. One of the British musicians who participated in Howlin' Wolf's London Sessions https://youtu.be/ik2lfP9_iyg, and the major cult hit Jamming with Edward, https://youtu.be/tziyYhJKwPI but probably best known as a member of the Rolling Stones.
Santo Farina: a guitarist born October 24, 1937. Best known for his work with his brother Johnny Farina.
Bill Dees: a singer, guitarist and songwriter who died October 24, 2016 and is best known for his collaborations with Roy Orbison.
Robert Thomas Velline, Bobby Vee: a pop singer, songwriter and musician who died October 24, 2017 and didn't bounce back.
Antoine "Fats" Domino Jr.: a pianist, singer and songwriter who dies on October 24, 2017.

Good morning, el.
Great list of music; will save it for this evening as i've got to run down the mountain to a new oxygen supplier today. In a normal year, this would be a golden ride of colors, alas, not this season.
Anyways, enjoy the wine country and thanks for this OT.
Good morning, Smiley, enjoy your oxygen and have a good and
safe round trip down the mountain. At a friend's on the tablet, so I'll be brief and just say have a good day.

good morning
who you gonna believe...the news or your lying eyes?
How easily misled are humans.
Speaking of misled, yesterday I booted up my computer to no avail. I unplugged it and took it down to our local shop. As soon as I set it down on the counter (in good light), I noticed I had left the sd card from my camera in it while editing the last of our trip pictures. Pulled out the card and it booted fine. My point being we often mislead ourselves.
We are just starting to get some colors. Fall seems later every year. Started digging sweet taters (they didn't turn out we had to dig them). Looks like a nice crop despite being browsed by the deer a few times.
Thanks for the music and the OT. Have a good day all.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Good morning, Lookout. Funny the way stuff like that happens.
The other day my keyboard stopped working and nothing would cure it, even swapping it for an old spare. I swapped ports with the mouse and it worked fine. Out of town right now, utt have a great one.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Good morning,do. Money corrupts, also greed. What to say.
Have a great day.

Come to think of it, left-wing political parties are also illegal here. We have no freedom, no say. And we never will as long as capital rules over all.
Modern education is little more than toeing the line for the capitalist pigs.
Guerrilla Liberalism won't liberate the US or the world from the iron fist of capital.
Thank you so much for the blues ...
I learned about Sony Terry & Brownie McGee through the EB here at the caucus and loved them from the first time I heard them. Love to listen to them over and over again.
Fats Domino I listened to in 1968 already in Germany as a student. Very nice musical memory lane you put me through. One can lose a lot, but not the love for music. (Though I couldn't listen to classical music for a good 35 years, the music I was raised with I started to reject). Only lately I could again. I think it was you too who posted some wonderful pieces.
I will listen to all of it the whole evening. I didn't know how much I needed that. All the best to you.
If I love the US and the Americans for one thing then it is for their music. That and for some thinking troublemakers...

Hey magi, thanks for dropping in. Too much monkey business
indeed, as Chuck was well aware. Pretty mellow yesterday and actually on the cool side this morning up there. Back now, supposed to get to 70, which is ok.
Have a good one.
