From NBC News:

Tonight, voters in two key states that have lost manufacturing jobs over the past couple of decades are similarly negative about the effects of trade. On the Democratic side, more than half of voters in Ohio say trade has cost the U.S. jobs. Only about a quarter there think trade creates more jobs.

In North Carolina, Democratic voters are more divided over whether trade loses more jobs or creates more jobs, though a plurality believes that trade hurts employment.

The MSM has screwed with poll results so much they are even outsmarting themselves. A viewer must be aware of what the poll results are showing, what they arent showing, what demographics they are using, etc.

In an OPEN primary anyone can vote. A closed primary a voter needs to be registered with a party. Independents are greatly affected by this.
The bottom line is simple ... Bernie beats all candidates with Independents. Ohio, Illinois and Missouri are open primary states and Bernie should win or show very well. Florida and North Carolina are closed and I expect the MSM to trumpet how Hillary will probably win these states even though the playing field is greatly tilted in her advantage.

From 538

You’re going to hear stuff like “too close” and “too early to call.” What’s the difference? Too early merely suggests that there isn’t enough information to make a call. Too close means we have enough information, and the race is too close to make a projection.

Somehow over all these years I never grasped that distinction.

Question: When the comments max out and goes to a second page and you add a new comment does it kick you back to the first page, resulting in you having to go to the bottom of the page and clicking the Page 2 link to get to it? If so, that's a PITA.

results as necessarily reflecting views of large numbers of people or majorities until you get the actual numbers.
For instance, in SC, Hillary won about 270,000 people's votes. Out of that, came a massive, dominating landslide victory--huge percentages. But that 270K was 12.1% of the electorate. Turnout way down.

Even when turnout is high, you have to check to see if voter suppression or obstruction is underway (often is in the South, and I saw some reports of people being not allowed to vote due to NC's new ID laws).

So the point is, not to imagine that we're looking at a Reagan result when we might be looking at a result of poor turnout, or of corrupt practices, or of 1/2 dozen other things. In fact, we know that a lot of corrupt things ARE going on that have contributed to this result. I could not find a better word to use about the press' behavior for the last six months than "corrupt."

These are not excuses for losing, but a caution to be careful how you interpret the loss. In the US, we usually believe, sometimes despite ourselves, that the will of the people MUST overcome all obstacles, if it's strong enough. Therefore if there's a loss, the people must be against us, or the people must be in some way lacking. This is why I regularly look at candidates' favorables. Hillary and Trump are the most disliked, least trusted candidates in the modern era. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/which-one-do-you-hate-the-least-hillary...

What we have is a two-party system that is, apparently, built to give the people what they least want.
Bernie may or may not be able to overcome that system. If he can't, it's going to be of supreme importance how we interpret that loss.

If we interpret it as devastation, our story ends.

There's no question that in Florida, with 97% reporting (at the Guardian), was a big win for Hillary. NC has about 55% reporting and Ohio about 47%. Those leads may be too big to close much. It will be interesting, though, to know about some of the factors you mentioned. What were the turnout numbers? How pervasive was the shut-out of college kids in NC and how honestly will the provisional ballots they voted be counted? Was what happened to Alpha's wife in FL, finding she was shown as unaffiliated when she thought she was registered Dem, an outlier or did that happen to others? I have no problem with giving proper kudos to winners, but when there's the least taint of a rigged game - and this one has reeked of it from the beginning - I'll have to be convinced. Not that they give a rip what I think, but I doubt I'm alone in that.

The delegate math just became insurmountable if the Clinton win in FL and NC are this big and she wins big in OH. Even if Bernie does win IL and MO, it's now a cluster f*ck. In the army, we have a saying that there are only two possible states of being and we just alternate between the two. Things are either SNAFU - the usual catastrophe of daily life, or it slides into FUBAR, which means things are effed up beyond all recognition. If this pattern holds tonight, the Bernie campaign just entered the FUBAR state. I sure hope I'm wrong.

What we need to hope for here is to reduce the margin substantially as the vote comes in, say to 5%, then this isn't a disaster. Thirty points would be a disaster.

just stabbed Marcus Brutus instead of Caesar. We'll see the extent of the FUBAR tomorrow, but the delegate math is now insurmountable. I would counsel staying away from the GOS after this. Bernie would ocntinue the primary race and have massive influence over the party platform, but that would be it. The joker in the pack is still the FBI investigation, so I would want Bernie in the race until the very end. Independent run later? I wouldn't expect that, but hey, it's 2016 and anything goes.

I attribute Clinton's win to the fear factor. People are generally quick to surrender freedom for security and I think folks got so scared of Drumpf that they ran to the perceived stronger candidate. It generally never ends well, but that's where we are. Until tomorrow.
