Friday Night Photos. Can't let a great thing miss a week.
Submitted by Pricknick on Fri, 05/18/2018 - 8:05pm
Such a flirt. Female Red Wing Blackbird.
I never realized how beautiful of a bird the female of this species was. I plan on devoting much more time photographing her and her kin as they are constant company on the river.
Iv'e spent almost a week of time on a little bit of the River Raisin. Every time I go there's something new.
A threatened Michigan species. Grey Rat Snake.
From last year. The equally threatened Butler Garter Snake

Evening Pricknick
I didn't see your POT before I published one. Thanks for covering. It's appreciated.
She's starting young - she's also very sweet.
A few photos from this week ...
I'm trying to find the words for your second photo, Janis
I'll be back when I find them. The mind is still off somewhere doing something that I have no idea what it's doing.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
I hope you find it snoopy, your mind that is.
Thought of you just now as I photographed these leaves, imagining them as a frilly alligator trying to crawl onto the deck, than the leaves that they are.
ethereal, unearthly, surreal and chimerical
and more. In other words, I love that picture. Is the sand as dark as it looks or is it the lighting? Thanks for posting it.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Thanks snoopy
Depending on the light and degree of wetness the sand ranges from tan to brown-grey in colour.
Janis sells seashells?
That picture is so perfect it almost looks fake.
Sorry you had to pull something.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
I tried saying that 5 times quickly
and it didn't make any more sense than the Sally version ; ).
The more the merrier!
Hi Janis
That second photo is stunning, really. Love the grays - blue gray, brown gray, green gray. gray gray.

Feeling completely uninspired myself. I'm just so psyched by the upcoming Royal nuptials!....(/s)
Anyway, some clouds from this evening:
Here's His Fredship, The Mayor, checking my work in the front garden:
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
I love seeing unusual cloud formations
The dark foreground adds to this.

Hi Bollox
I see Fred finally made it onto the tv screen. I always knew he would with that personality of his. That is such a bizzarely great photo. Thanks for the dramatic clouds as well.
I just spit up
about the royal screw many are getting from the royal inbreds.
More people are happy about it here in the states than the royal peasants.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Wow!
Beautiful! I love how you can see the reflection of more flowers in the window.
Those clouds look like
frosting. Want to scrape them off the sky and eat them.

Evening everyone.
I finally got the pheasant portrait I've been after.
The other day I was treated to three (!!!) male indigo buntings visiting my feeders!
Also a lifer; never thought I'd get to see one here! (Now let's try for a scarlet tanager.) It was funny because I was about to take that feeder down because nothing was really eating at it, but then I changed my mind and took the peanut feeder down instead since I had gotten a new jelly feeder to put up, and then the buntings showed up shortly after!
A yellow-headed blackbird that briefly sat in a tree:
And our pair of blue-winged teals:
There's them and a pair of mallards on our pond; can't wait to see babies!
I didn't know garter snakes were threatened; thanks Pricknick.
This shit is bananas.
You must get so much satisfaction
from sharing your space with a great variety of visiting birds and learning more about them. Thanks Daenerys.
Hi Janis
This shit is bananas.
Most aren't.
Only a few that have been here forever. At least until humans showed up.
Beautiful pics.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Thanks for your bird posts
I look forward every week to seeing what is new. We have lots of new bird folks here too. We have a newcomer - a lovely red-headed woodpecker with a white dot on the back of its head and great eye make up. I am trying to figure out what it is.

Hi Magiamma
This shit is bananas.
evening pricknick...
thanks for posting the friday night photos!
woohoo, it's really spring! ms shikspack's clematis is blooming:
Thanks for Friday night photos tonight, Pricknick
Some bird shots taken Monday morning at Lindo lake.
I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and procrastinate all at the same time.
Evening Social and thank you.
What is it about birds?
They're more loved.
Snakes are only threatened because most people despise them. I think spiders come in a close second to snakes in the human fear factor.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
They're also closer
to our better natures, at least symbolically. Unfortunately they're also threatened.
Hi Social
Thank you for the wonderful bird photos. I and a friend rescued seven baby ducklings from the street. They were following there mom but surely not going to make it given the traffic. Two could fit in my hand. I threw my vest over them and they kept escaping from the armholes. Pretty funny. We took the to the Native Animal Rescue place and they said they would take them to a water bird rescue center. Really sweet.

Hi, magiamma
Great story. Thank you for looking after the ducklings.

Wood ducks are one of my favorites
Beautiful as always, sp.
What's the White bird?
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Thank you, Snoopy
The first white bird is a Snowy Egret. I'm not sure what the second white bird is.

Great name!
shikspack's clematis.
So scientific sounding.

Took the dawgs on their favorite hike
This is the time of year when the mustard seeds are blooming. The photos don't do the beauty of them justice.
Turned a twist in the trail and found this.
Dawgs had fun 'splorin the smells of food left over, especially Charlie with the human vacuum nose.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Hi snoopy
What a burst of warmth and delicacy the mustard is.
Is that someones nest?
Hi Snoopy
Wow, yellow. So inviting. Makes me smile. And a human vacuum nose. A new concept for me.

It a pseudo hobbit hovel
I'm not sure if someone just wanted to build it OT if it is actually someone's shelter. There are lots of homeless people staying in this area during the summer.
The plants are usually much bigger and more prolific, but we didn't get much snow this year. Here's the way I remember the area in full bloom. And I should have said "beagle vacuum nose". This is the typical pose for a beagle. Nose down, tail up. Beagles have some of the most sensitive noses in most dawgs. Their ears are long so they can trap scents. True fact.

Nose down, tail up
Interesting facts about beagles and their noses
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
From your link -
"the nose itself is large, cool, and moist to the touch. The moistness helps dissolve molecules in the air, bringing them into the nose."
When it warms up a bit I'm going to try enhancing my sense of smell by wetting my nose ; ).
Chuckling
Let me how that works for ya.
This is Dusty Dawg and her first litter of puppies. I was so surprised when the first one was born and he was black and white.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
I will!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, you three.
Those pictures are beautiful. You’re lucky to
live where you do.

Unique pose of the bird
It looks like it's getting ready to hold court.
I am not afraid of snakes. I'm not. So imagine my surprise when I was walking and saw one just after I stepped over it. "Aiiighee, a snake! An effing snake!" In my defense I think it has something to do with some leftover vestigial deep instinct from the caveman days when snakes ate people.

@snoopydawg, Janis
Thanks!
I recently came across a seemingly defunct HD video camera, that couldn't be re-charged, until I worked out how to re-charge it. It takes basic stills too, so I've been pointing and shooting over the last week. Some of the results aren't too shabby (and it's tiny, so easy to transport).
(Edit: This is supposed to be higher in the thread)
Gëzuar!!
from a reasonably stable genius.
That's exciting Bollox
I trust it will continue to inspire you, along with your friend Fred and the beauty of Spring. Enjoy!
In between sun and rain ...
Pitcher plant?
So many varieties and all fascinating in how they receive sustenance from both the earth and what gets enticed inside their flower.
Little shop of horrors.
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
This one is a Calla Lily.
I remember pitcher plant flowers from Spring in Connecticut.
“The plants attract and drown their prey with nectar.” Not a bad way to go.
great pix all
Love yer snakes Pricknick, very cool. Nice Garter, of course lots of types are common, and lots are very local and rare. San Franciso Garter might be the prettiest of them all, and I think very threatened. Janis your scallop warms my cockles... beautiful! Birds are living dinosaurs, and a canary in the coal mine for this 3rd stone from the sun. Great pair of Blue-winged Teal D.; JS I can't believe those Clematis, I have 3 types native where I am and none look remotely like those beauties. Great Wood Duck SP, love those nuptial plumes on the Snowy Egret. The red in lores is called 'high breeding' and only briefly held during maximum hormone production coinciding with mate selection and mating period.
Here's a few more birds, because there aren't enough, and a couple other odds n' sods.
Pectoral Sandpiper
Ailanthus Webworm Moth
Twelve-spotted Skimmer
White-tipped Dove
Yellow-throated Warbler
Thanks everyone for all the great posts all week!

Collection of beach findings?
I love collecting things from the beach. I bet I paid the movers a pretty penny for moving my rocks and driftwood home. But each piece has a memory attached to it. I know from where every rock and driftwood came from.
Dawg! I have got to get back to California soon.

Chaz is making sure you don’t forget to pack him up to take
with you.
Ernie, my dog accompanied me on a four month camping trip across America. As soon as I started to do anything that resembled taking down camp, she’d jump through the car window and wouldn’t move till the car was packed and I was seated in the drivers seat. As if I’d ever leave her, I loved her so.
Thanks Pricknick
I was hoping for a photo thread today. Beautiful pictures, everyone!
I'd like to share a few of mine from the past week. I hope I'm doing this right.

Incoming clouds yesterday
My Harley enjoying the sun
Threatening clouds
are my favorite.
Is Harley a low rider as in "Hog"?
Regardless of the path in life I chose, I realize it's always forward, never straight.
Actually
She is named after Harley Quinn. My daughter named her. I call her Miss Harley Farley.
Good to see you, Jen
Welcome to the group. The clouds look ominous. Did you get a good storm from them? Harley Farley Quinn? I'm not familiar with her/him.
I have never seen clouds like these before.
This wonderful chestnut tree is in full bloom right now with clumps of white flowers with red stems.
Was Humpty Dumpty pushed?
Thank you
I thought the clouds were bringing a storm but ended up only getting a few drops.
Harley Quinn is a Batman character. I just made up the Farley part cause it rhymes.
The clouds in your picture look pretty neat.
Hi Jen
Harley looks so perfectly satisfied in the sun.
Thank you for your wonderful photos. I’m glad you had no trouble posting, and I look forward to seeing you here on Fridays.
Such beautiful pictures people posted. I
bet some of the bird pictures were darn hard to get.
These threads are akways so nice to read.
