16 = 4 squared and 2 to the fourth or 4**2 and 2**4. Coincidence? I don't think so.
(I know of no other number that is both a**b and b**a where a is unequal to b)
16 is the base for the Hexadecimal numeral system, aka Hex
Counting in Hex runs from 0 to 9 then A,B,C,D,E, and F for 10 through 15
Hex is used a ton in computer science, computers and computing
16 is sulfur

16 BCE
was the Year of the Consulship of Ahenobarbus and Scipio
Caesar Augustus reorganized the German provinces and made Trier their capital.
(Trier just installed at least one traffic control light with charactures of Karl Marx on thw wait and walk lenses to celebrate the bicentennial of his birth there)
Elsewhere in 16 BCE,
Roman legate Marcus Lollius was defeated by a Germanic horde. This was/is called "The Lollian Disaster" because the German raiders bagged the legionary standard (the Eagle).

-

16 CE
was the Year of the Consulship of Taurus and Libo
A Roman army of 50,000 men commanded by Germanicus won a victory at Idistaviso, defeating the German war chief Arminius and recovering the lost eagles of Varus' legions. (Those were the 3 eagles Varus lost in 9 BCE, not the paltry lone eagle Lollius lost in 16 BCE.)

It is seriously unlikely that I will be here to interact when this posts. Should I fail to respond to comments, please just assume that I am out somewhere under an open sky with no signal and no regrets as to that state of affairs. Either that, or I am in some tasting room studiously focusing upon my researches. In any event, everybody have a great day.

PD Editorial: Regional Measure 3 will improve the local transportation network

Umm, no it won't. Fool me once, etc.. I've been approving money for more cars in the Bay Area like a dumb-ass since I started voting in the 80s, what did I get? More cars! Duh.

There’s still work to be done to relieve traffic congestion — Highway 101 hasn’t been widened through Petaluma or the Novato Narrows, SMART doesn’t yet extend north of Santa Rosa, and Highway 37 has become both a major bottleneck and a warning beacon for the potentially destructive effects of rising sea levels.

I don't know where all of the money I already voted for was spent, widening 101 is not going to slow global warming one bit so shut the fuck up please. Shove your asphalt where the sun don't shine if you are selling electric cars as a peaceful future. Where are you gonna get the lithium for your freedom batteries? Afghanistan? Fuck that shit. NV doesn't have enough lithium to power the next capitalist revolution, so NOPE. No more unsustainable bullshit, that's what I say. Park it.

Thanks! Have a nice day.

...but that's not even on the radar. There seems no answer to restructuring the capitalist system into a system of common good and sustainability.

Oddly I find myself hoping for the collapse of the evil American empire in order to save our species. Where do you get them happy pills?

Hey el have a fun vacation. Legend has it the 16th is sweeet!

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

@Lookout thanks I like the electric train idea too. I don't know why our planners continue to allow employers to congregate in overpopulated areas, and not contribute to housing or transportation in any meaningful way. It's not that complicated, except for the crony capitalists, they are always creating interference with their public/private nonsense excuses.

Reverse is not a fun gear to be in, at the end. In the beginning, for the young there is always hope, there is always another gear to try. At the end, for old people who tried to make a better world and failed miserably, it's a hard exit. I just want some peace.

@Lookout remember reading about it awhile back. Has panels on board and large solar powered recharging stations on either end of the line. This is an old refurbished metal monster from wayback. Wish progressive thinking could cross pollinate in the west.

@enhydra lutris Sea Weed: Marijuana Washes Ashore In Santa Barbara County lol

And you know about the soft shoulders, it is raining and they are not getting any harder, or wider, or safer. So just stay on the asphalt until you get to Goleta. Thanks for the vicarious road trip, I am really enjoying it. The only thing missing is a lot of photos, so I am just using my imagination. Ocean Grown grin.

what do you get if you load sixteen tons? Huh? Huh?

Ed Townsend has an interesting bio. Among other things, how many doo wop singer-songwriters were lawyers? And he co-wrote Let's Get It On, with Marvin Gaye. Purple heart, too, which I imagine may not have been handed out to African Americans lightly during the Korean War.

Sorry to have come so late to the party, but, though numbers make my fingernails itch, I love your OTs and could not resist.

as in the fog of war, anything may be promulgated. Alas, some think Shakespeare a fool; conjured in hyperbole, misleading community, and the 'better butter.'

Betty Botter says it best, 'a bit of better butter makes the batter better.'

Long day's drive to 'pre-op.' Snowing as i went down the mtn. and snowing when i returned. Nice to see Spring down below.

Thanks for the OT as we travel a little with Charlie.
