Single Payer, Time to Crash the Gates

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report for Trump and the Republican's "American Health Care Act" has come out.

"The House Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act would increase the number of people without health insurance by 24 million by 2026, while slicing $337 billion off federal budget deficits over that time, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Monday."

Oh you're such a fucking liar.

(Republican conference room: "If we keep just 24 million of the serfs from being able to get health insurance we can save $337 billion off the deficit in ten years."
"What if we made it 50 million, wouldn't that basically double that?"
"Ya".
(prolonged silence)
"Nah, let's start with 24, we can always expand it later. But let's talk about social security")

Hey there's always the emergency room. Or just google your ailment like you do when you fix your dishwasher. Just enter, "my bowels no longer work, what should I do?"

Of course the minority Democratic party is "united" in opposition.

"Democrats remained steadfast in their opposition. “The C.B.O. score shows just how empty the president’s promises, that everyone will be covered and costs will go down, have been,” said Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic leader. “This should be a looming stop sign for the Republicans’ repeal effort.”

Ya right, can't wait to see what kind of compromises the democratic party will make to keep the people from having a single payer health CARE system. "Hey under our plan, only 14 million go without insurance!"

I haven't heard of any planned street protests. I've decided to do what I haven't done in quite a long time, write my congressional representative and Senators. I'll have my family and friends and whoever else I can find, copy, sign and mail a letter also. Maybe I'll go set up a table at Esther Short park this weekend and try to get more people to do the same. This is extremely important, if the Serfs could make this happen it could change everything. We would have a democracy for one thing.

It's pretty simple. Single payer or bust. Medicare for all, socialized medicine, whatever you want to call it, the corporate profit driven insurance and medical system has got to change now. No compromise. The solution is too obvious, too logical, too beneficial, and the only answer. Why even beat around the bush on this any longer. Health care in this country costs almost double per capita what it does anywhere else on earth, it's more unequally administered than all but the most desperate countries (mostly the ones the U.S. has fucked up) and it ranks behind most countries on many measures of health outcomes, quality, and efficiency. Obamacare made it worse and Trumpcare will make it worse than that. Because that's the way it's going to be with the people we're dealing with. We should know that by now.

Start the fucking Revolution!!

@earthling1 My inlaws have decided to enter old age in a remote part of Idaho miles from the nearest hospital. An electric car simply won't do if we need to go out there in a hurry. But if you can go electric, please do.

@Hawkfish but for most people, their commute is well within range of a Leaf.
I have a hundred and twenty mile range on mine and when we want to go long distance, we rent a car from Avis or Enterprise or some such.
Much of our extended family have new cars but rent when they go to Vegas or Cali. It keeps the miles down on their new cars and there is no cleanup after. Just drop it off.
Next Gen electric has 200 plus miles range from multiple manufacturers. And the "West Coast Electric Highway" is a reality today. Fast charge stations (30 minutes) are installed up and down the I5 corridor closely spaced.
My last trip to Cali from the Portland area saw 5 Teslas pass us, an eerily silent swoosh flyin' by.
I honk and wave at every gas station I pass with someone pumping gas. It's like giving the finger to the oil companies in a PC way.
That feeling is worth it all. I feel like I'm doing something, damn it.

Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.

I noticed some of you wondering why VT failed at single payer. Here are some reasons as I understand them. Feel free to correct or add anything additional you know of.

Vermont is a very small state. It is populated by a large number if seniors. This has two negative impacts on Medical insurance. First of all, the age issue means lots of people with pending health issues and costs. Secondly, the economies of scale aren't there for a state with a very tiny economy.

Federal legislation is another issue. Our former Governor, Peter Shumlin, made arrangements with Obama and the federal government to capture medicare disbursements in the state system. However, there is also a federal law protecting medication manufacturers from being subjected to price negotiations.

At the end of it all, the estimated cost of single payer here would have been a 10% increase in payroll taxes for the employer, plus 10% increase for employees. By and large chump change, but businesses and some individuals said no f'ing way. Shumlin barely got reelected in 2012 and upon getting sworn in for his 2nd term promptly ditched healthcare reform.

It still would have been a huge task to pass this politically. There were lots of big pharma money opposing it and Shumlin was not the governor to get this done.

I hope this helps.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
