For what it's worth,
my favorite version is the one done by the Kweskin Jug Band with John Hurt a close 2nd.

The interesting thing about that is that Kweskin's female
vocalist was Maria Muldaur (at times aka Maria d'Amato), who not only performed it with the jug band, but many, many times since. You could probably find 10 clips of her at different times and ages doing it.

wonderful vocalist over a range of styles. She and her husband Geoff did an album or two together which went underappreciated.
