Standing Rock: Razor Wire Barrier Constructed Around Burial Ground
Submitted by blazinAZ on Fri, 11/25/2016 - 12:58pm
In another depraved act of inhumanity, the militarized forces in North Dakota have deployed razor wire all around the base of Turtle Island, the scene of one of the water protesters' actions yesterday (November 24). Please remember that when the Sioux and other indigenous people speak of "sacred sites," they often mean places where their ancestors are buried. Here's a 4-minute video from the Young Turks showing the razor wire being installed today (November 25).

At first I thought the Protectors put it up
You know, to keep the destroyers out, but that ain't the case, sadly.
Last week, in Houston, a contractor destroyed bricks hidden under the asphalt street. The bricks are historically protected (finally) because they were laid by freed slaves in Freedman's Town. The city refused to pave the streets, so the people did it themselves. There are protected grave yards too.
How can we have protected and historical areas for some, but not for Native Peoples? The contractor is in deep shit, but big oil/banks can shit all over Native land, burial sites and nothing.
I've asked before, what legal team is representing the Protectors? Where is the ACLU?
ACLU, Amnesty Int'l, and UN have all sent observers
Here's ACLU's statement https://www.aclu.org/feature/stand-standing-rock
And the water protectors also have the support of the National Lawyers Guild and their own team called the Red Owl Collective https://www.facebook.com/WaterProtectorLegal/
The thing is: the pipeline company, the sheriffs, the cops, and the mercenaries don't care at all about following the law, so it's kind of useless to threaten them with it. Turtle Island, for example, is federal land -- not private land -- and the cops actually have no right to be there at all, let alone doing what they're doing. But they don't care and no one seems to have the fortitude to stand up to them except unarmed people.
They seem to have no morals, ethics, or willingness to do what's right.

Wow, thank you! n/t
There are at least two mounds on the banks of the segment of
the St Lawrence River I know that are Not Natural. Someones made them, Iroquois Nation tribes are likely. AFAIK, no investigations have been done, but one is in Canadian waters. Not that Canada did a great job of accepting the local natives' land and lives. Many immigrant invasions there. And school to detox tribal kids forever. But they have kinda apologized...
I have never been to that mound on Wolfe Island. It rises at least 60' above the field behind and is right on the waterline. A house is nestled next to it. My guess would be it was a lookout station or signal station on the River. Queens University may have information. Definitely not pristine, but not dug away.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I will try to investigate
I live in Kingston now and Queen's is my alma mater pretty cool to see it mentioned here!
Are there any bolt cutters on the Amazon wish list?
Just askin...

Also, metallic mesh gloves would be nice
I tried to send a blanket yesterday. Never quite worked out. And eye protection, that would be good, but I am sure that was on the wish list. I wish I has a good link to the wish list, last one insisted that it be sent to me. A bud of Amazon here (shameless).

Any Word on the Chemicals Dispersed on the Protectors Last Night
Got a video text from a friend who is at Standing Rock of some kind of crop dusting helicopter/plane that was allegedly dispersing chemicals on the Water Protectors there last night on 2 minute intervals.
Another friend who is there covering the protests confirmed the alleged "crop dusting".

This is so beyond disgusting
Where the hell is your voice, Barack Obama?
Shame on you for your silence!
He goes on the same shit list as Martin Van Buren
An atrocity in progress that he could have stopped, and he did - nothing.
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
I hope that more Americans wake up to what is happening
We have a war going on in the USA. And it involves drinking water and Indian reservations (old-style language there). They are fighting the Indians again! But the Indians are on our side, and theirs.
I have read some shit-talk on FB. Not mainstream, but too much information now, with election shenanigans and Russians and Sioux. Shake them up! Shake us up!

please keep us posted
this is not looking good
And who does that Mary corps of engineers report to?
Martin van Buren, Hoover and Obama.
Nice legacy, Barry.
The people who fought and died so that you could have the chance to become president would be so ashamed of you. That is if you could feel shame.
I haven't seen any evidence that you can feel either shame or empathy for the many lives you could have helped but didn't.
Army CORPS of Engineers made up of NON ENGINEERS
I didn't know this until about 3 mos ago, and a co-worker told me about his niece.
She, IIRC (if I recall correctly) used the Army to become an RN. After Basic, she was assigned to ACoE (Army CORPS of Engineers), protesting the assignment, and not there as a medical person in the event someone was injured, say, out in the field.
She's been an acting engineer for nearly 2 decades.
Sigh . . .
Apparently the 'war zone' images are not the fault of protesters
The burned out vehicles, barricades, etc. seem to be the work of the pipeline company and the cops, not the water protectors. The protests have been peaceful. The scene looks like a war zone due to violence by the corporatist side. The DAPL crew is apparently going ahead even though the Corps of Engineers yanked their permit.
