She didn't know squat about classical music, but panic set in early on that her girl child would be branding calves, milking cows, picking peas, pulling corn, driving tractors,(all of which she and I did), not attracting the right kind of husband.
So, in addition to the above activities, I had private ballet lessons, and private music lessons.
Recently, I attended a Chopin concert in Warsaw. The pianist played 8 pieces. 4 of them I had played, one I had dabbled with.
What almost killed me was one of the pieces, a nocturne, I used to play before I went to bed, to put my parents to sleep. I was a puddle.
By the way, I didn't listen to more than 2 minutes of the Toccata in D. I heard a mistake.
The overall dynamics are impeccable. Wonderful rubato, which wasn't actually "allowed" in the Baroque period, and Bach and organs do not lend themselves to that. Wonderful pipes.
I forgive anyone a wrong note if everything else is great.
I personally heard Horowitz and he did not make a mistake. He was perfect, made that piano sound like a full orchestra.
Well, that went on and sorry if I took it off topic.
I played Bach in recitals. Ask anyone. It is the best of times, or the worst of times.

piece. I'm not versed in the history or theory of music or have i classical training beyond 8 years of piano lessons in childhood; yet I do love music. I, too, am a farm child grown a little worldly by travel and the device or reading, I suppose.
Hope you appreciated my retort was in fun.
More fun is that you have much to offer in music for we readers to look forward; please share more; love s7
Soybeans, winter wheat and burley tobacco. My grandparents raised Angus cattle and grew some corn and alfalfa for them.
Two-Part Inventions and Chopin Preludes. Piano was like baseball for me. I was never as good at either as I had hoped. But it didn't stop from me from a lifelong enjoyment of both.
is moved toward being interested in the history of music is fine with me. Bach demands perfection, whereas later musical movements are more forgiving.
No apologies are needed.
The Adagio for Strings is what my brother is duty bound to play at any memorial service he wants to pay for.
I am a product of a tiny town in Texas and mom. She located a piano teacher who had a direct connection to the Vienna School of Music, and a ballet dancer from Russia.

And I XCed by myself, a big nono, before the advent of even the Walkman. Do you listen to music while skiing? Certainly makes for drama or possibly off-rhythm drama!

Downhill today on skis, breathing hard, very hard, yeah!
glad to hear that you're back on your skis...
thanks for the tunes!
Thanks for the music.
I'd almost wager that the organist performing that rendering of the Toccata and Fuge in D minor was done by E. Power Biggs.
I don't have my copy handy to be 100% sure. It's on vinyl.
Soon it will be time for my annual bath.

Hey, I've a bar of goat soap gifted me in Duke hospital...
may i forward it to the annual bath cause; don't have a clue about Biggs.
Dynamic rendering for sure. Happy TEvening!
'preciate it.

I haven't attempted that piece
in decades. I was a Bach nut when I was 16! I mellowed to Satie when I was 18. I still have that music in my piano bench.
Good times.

please play more for us in good times coming :)
From Bach to Satie
That is a steep mellowing curve!
Though somewhat neglected, Satie's Gymnopédies are part of my guitar repertoire.

Thanks for the tunes, Smiley--still enjoying the Piano Guys! NT
Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.
Thanks for being there, Mollie!
smiley7, my mom is the reason for my music.

Chosen for thanksgiving as it's a big sounding
piece. I'm not versed in the history or theory of music or have i classical training beyond 8 years of piano lessons in childhood; yet I do love music. I, too, am a farm child grown a little worldly by travel and the device or reading, I suppose.

These are all excellent choices. Thanks.

Thanks for the music smiley,
especially for Santana and Satie. Is the contrast in music like traversing the slopes?
Wishing you well …
