The Weekly Watch

Another week flies by. The media of mass distraction has everyone talking about an athlete who refuses to stand for a song honoring war and supposedly our nation. Meanwhile a duly elected president was impeached by senators fearing investigation of their own corruption a week after the world participated in Games in Brazil...and the world makes no comment on the coup. The drip of leaks continues to keep the $hill in hiding, and the media misleads folks about Jill.

People fought for workers, women, education, and so on. Today we sit by while the gains of those hard fought battles slip away. We've given up on the idea of pensions, government jobs, equality, ...

Much of the reason Occupy, BLM, and others can't seem to make headway is a complicit media which doesn't educate. There are still people protesting!

That the 6 major corporations that own all the media we get to see are complicit with very much the propaganda seeking to destroy all of those gains in favor of letting the Corporations and the Billionaires put us right back to the "Gilded age" where robber barons ran the country and no one had rights except those with the money stashed away in places no one could get at. History repeats itself, Humanity seems to hate learning from the past.

according to the linked article about the protest against the Dakota Access Pipeline, which has been ongoing for months.

Apparently media coverage is better outside the US, from the Independent, BBC, etc.

Caught a great side-by-side photo comparison on Twitter of a white male cop siccing a dog on a black youth in the '60s with one from yesterday of a white female (because it's "our turn") siccing hers on a Native American youth. Nothing's much changed except, yeah, feminism.

And all these people are trying to do is preserve clean drinking water for their children's children's children - and, oh, those of the Euros downstream, too, and their children's children's children.

I'm glad I somehow missed the bickering this week. I tend to read the essays before the comment trails get so long. Don't forget about the nature of opinions...everybody has one.

Feel free to add anything on your mind. I've got to go out to a big stew cooking today in the valley 15 gallons or so. So I'm off to stir and hopefully play a tune or two. Here's a shot from many years ago and an old friend who has passed on doing the stirring

mainstream attention. I do believe if everyone knew her and her positions, she would be wildly popular.

That report about juvenile injustice, putting kids into debtors' prisons, should be on the front page of every newspaper in America. Hideous; even worse than putting adults into debtors' prisons, which is bad enough. I hope the ACLU files suit. We should all write letters to the editor of our local newspapers to make sure it's at least seen there.

On a lighter note, finally, insurance companies are good for something! I never thought about it, but sure, they're going to take huge losses from climate change if something isn't done. I just figured that "something" would mean somehow they'd deny all claims, "it's an act of God, not covered by your policy," or else rates would skyrocket and they would just keep their wealthiest customers. Well, good for them! A large industry fighting the fossil fuel industry. It's past time.

Happy weekend, everyone!

“Don’t you understand this shit yet? They work for the state.” — Police have no legal duty to protect you.
“They’ll plant fake evidence.” — On countless occasions police have been caught planting evidence to frame people. Cops even note that “Planting Evidence And Lying” Are Just “Part Of The Game."

And

Police are caught all the time lying on reports and in court.
“But they don’t squeal on each other. They’re not rats.” — This is the truth. Police will go to great extents to protect their own — even when their own have lied, brutalized, or killed. In the rare instance that a good cop crosses the blue line and calls out the crimes of their fellow officers, they are harassed, fired, beaten, stalked, or worse.
After listening to the clip below, you’ll know why it took 15 years for this audio to be released.
