Sanders' Syracuse Speech 6-24 with Endorsement
Submitted by WindDancer13 on Fri, 06/24/2016 - 7:58pm
Sanders endorsed Eric Kingson for the NY 24th Congressional district. That primary will be on 6/28.
Whoever taped this (via satellite) placed a digital bird on Sanders' podium. I left in Kingson's comments (at least the part that was included) in this tape in case anyone wants to know more about him. He is currently trailing in the polls for the Tuesday primary.
Big on Sanders' to-do list which he mentioned in both speeches today was making sure that the TPP does not come to the floor for a vote during the lame duck session.

Kingson sounds great, but too academic
for our current anti-academic atmosphere. I hope Bernie can lift him, but Onondaga County was one of three upstate counties that did not vote for Bernie in the primary. At least on paper. Given Kingson's expertise, he should get all the 55+ voters.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
If Kingson brings in the 55+, and the Sanders'
endorsement brings in the 45- then maybe there will be enough.
This sounds hopeful:
And this:
Hopefully, the area uses paper ballots.

Well there's a call to action for the revolution....
Can we stop the TPP??? Can we mobilize enough of the same people who donated and voted for Bernie to call their congress crooks and stop TPP? My guess is no. If the right ever turns populist instead of just isolationist and resentful, they'll clean up.

Pretty sure that more than just Sanders' supporters
could be mobilized against the TPP. Making it clear to people how the Internet could be effected could make a lot of difference.
While they/we are at it, letting congress people know that the vote to allow warrantless searches of browser history and email metadata is not appreciated. It missed passing by one vote, and it will come up again.

I know my US congressman, Kevin Brady,
personally. I have met him on numerous occasions, even got him to hold a meeting with his staff at his local headquarters, with me and 4 clients who were all begging him to have a federal investigation of a judge. (That judge was forced out of office, no thanks to Brady.)
And Brady doesn't give a shit. Calling a Congressman is a waste of time.
If I were a CEO, damn straight he would return the call.
We were all just little people. We are not needed to keep him in office. I asked him why he even bothered to come to a county in his district with so few people, we could never turn an elections.
His reply was, "I always hedge my bet."

Maybe, it is time to stop talking and start acting.
Send letters to the editor in local papers stating why the TPP should be opposed.
Example:
Stage a protest/march/sit-in and educate people about the problems with the TPP.
Some tips:
Create and distribute petitions.
There are many ways to work for change. If one doesn't work, people who are serious about affecting change, try another and another and another until something works. I believe some women suffragettes told their husbands that they would be sleeping on the couch until women had the vote.

My local newspaper
refused to place ads that opposed PTB. Also, I finally threatened a lawsuit for defamation for an article allowed by a local editor. She immediately "retired".
However, the publisher is all Tea Party, all the time.
You get rid of one bad actor, and they are replaced by another.
My client was satisfied by her "retirement', and didn't move forward with the lawsuit.
This is a slow, slog through the mud for years way of attacking the 4th Estate.
And it is expensive.

There are often "opposition" publications in
a given area. I know even in my little town (about 30,000), there is one. Civil rights and the women's vote took decades to pass, but people didn't stop working at it just because it was difficult. As we don't have decades to bring down the TPP, then looking for alternatives would be more effective than succumbing to obstacles.

Bernie is right about
this, too... why is this Primary in fucking June? What's the hurry? Second Tues. in September would have been plenty of time before the Nov. election. Bernie's conclusion? The Powers don't want you voting. Big surprise, I know, but they got the guy - Katko - they want, don't need no Libruls mucking up the works.

Or as NY claimed in some areas
polling places were closed due to finances, why wasn't the presidential and other primaries combined? Quite a number of states manage to do both at once.
