Submitted by enhydra lutris on Sat, 08/08/2015 - 10:05am
Tonight's installment of Evening Bues Weekend Edition will be hosted by yours truly.
IT will feature vocalist, multi-instrument musician and composer/songwriter Steve Winwood. Among other things, Steve co-founded three bands:
Spencer Davis Group (Gimme Some Lovin)
Traffic (Pearly Queen)
Blind Faith (Can't Find My Way Home)
There's also examples of his truly solo work, such as an album on which he played all of the instruments:
Steve Winwood (Arc of A Diver)
Drop by at 5:02 and enjoy some fine company, some good tunes and maybe read some news too.

Comments
Winwood was a prodigy
He was with Spencer Davis Group as a young teen. His career has been incredibly prolific and has lasted an extremely long time. I am enjoying listening to him once again. Great musician!

He had his first gig at 8.
He played in backing bands for a lot of travelling US blues musicians who travelled solo and picked up back up bands in the towns where they played before joining up with Spencer Davis.

similar to Derek Trucks
who was only thirteen (but looked about ten) when he first played with the Allman Brothers Band.

one of my favorites
Spencer Davis was putting the group together with Muff Winwood. Muff told him about his younger brother, brought him around and Spencer was smart enough to say "yes" and get out of the way.
I'd say the SDG tunes are still my favorite Winwood but man, could that kid sing! and play guitar! and organ! and piano! And he was like 15 or so when the SDG started up.
Also played drums, mandolin and FSM only knows what else.
