Album of the Week

Album of the Week 8-15-26

Afternoon folks!

This week we're starting off acoustic with an album from a great Piedmont blues guitarist, John Jackson, followed by an album split between two delta musicians, Son House (early recordings, when he was in his prime!) and J.D. Short. After that we move on to a double live album from Buddy Miles, recorded just after he had been working with Jimi Hendrix. Following that is a greatest hits album from my favorite Motown group, The Temptations. Finishing us off this week in the diversity department is an album of psychedelic wonderment from The 13th Floor Elevators - this is a modern pressing that removes the less-than-satisfactory applause track from a boxing match that was imposed on the original release of the album to make it sound like a live album, which is a big improvement in my book.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Album of the Week 8-8-26

Afternoon folks!

This week we've got an album from a singer known for sounding a lot like B.B. King, notably joined on the album by the guitarist Earl Hooker. After that, there's an album from Chicago blues piano player Roosevelt Sykes followed by one from harmonica player Charlie Musselwhite. After that we've got some blues rock from guitarist Harvey Mandel - probably best known for his work with Canned Heat and John Mayall's band. A little more blues rock follows from Blodwyn Pig a british band formed by the first guitarist of Jethro Tull (Mick Abrahams). We finish off with an album of prog rock from Asia featuring Steve Howe (Yes) and Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer).

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

After that we've got some rollicking blues from The Siegel-Schwall Band, followed by two of Chicago's finest and perhaps most underrated guitarists Jimmy Rogers and Hip Linkchain sitting down for an album of acoustic guitar blues. We finish up this week in the prog rock department with an album from Uriah Heep.

After that, we've got an Allman Brothers Band (live) show from 1971 and then we ease on into prog rock with a sort of Zappa-esque album from Godley & Creme (formerly of 10cc).

This week it's a real smorgasbord of styles for you. Starting off we've got swamp blues from Lightnin' Slim followed by some raw, electric, Mississippi blues from T-Model Ford. Moving on from there we have a compilation of Clarence Garlow's 50's era cajun blues and then we switch to a collection acoustic Piedmont blues from a variety of artists. Finishing off, we have Klaatu's second album which is a good bit different from their first album that I posted a few weeks ago but worth a listen.
