I've had the week from hell. It started Monday and hasn't ended yet. I haven't had time to think of politics or anything else. I'm taking this week off from the open thread.

Today's Guardian opinion column: When a journalist uses AI to interview a dead child, isn’t it time to ask what the boundaries should be?
by Gaby Hinsliff
Dunno 'bout boundaries, but definitions for sure should not change willy-nilly. No journalist performs or publishes "interviews" with dead people. This has been historically common behavior, but not among journalists. It has been the province of seances and ouija boards, very often with fraudulent intent, always with fakery. The so-called "interview" is fiction, hence not journalism, possibly performance art if done for an audience or on radio/tv/toktic/faceplant/youtube,/etc.
The editorial tells us that "ex-CNN journalist Jim Acosta" conducted such an interview on substack. That should more correctly read "ex-CNN ex-journalist Jim Acosta" and what he "conducted" was not an interview, but theater. Given that it was almost certainly politically motivated, I will presume that it was bad theater at that. I know little about Acosta and little of his work, but have reason, starting with his previous employment, to be pretty damn sure that he is no Ionesco, Beckett or Genet, nor even a Pirandello, and whatever farce he performed is not absurdist, but absurd. Be that as it may, it is by no stretch of the imagination journalism. In fact, in calling him an EX-journalist I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on the question of whether he ever really was one.
Just had to get that off of my chest.

I can't even... how the hell can this be considered allowable? I guess I can understand the parents wanting to have something of their child back, but... this AI stuff is getting insane. And journalism is getting even lower.

Or dead fallen limbs and trees. Did that all last week, it seems, and I've still got more, but, not at my farm at least. It'll be at my parent's. Heh. Hope the chore is over for you now!
Enjoy your weekend!

Can't help but wonder if maybe both participants were
AI hallucinations. Somebody should start a rumor to that effect.
