More than 180,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in California after an emergency was declared at Oroville Dam, the tallest dam in the United States.

Of course, local Republicans know exactly who to blame: transgender people.

A comment about comments on Part One of "American Exceptionalism"..

Yes, I have great respect for and much agreement with the views of Hedges and Chomsky. My point was that there is a distrust of intellectuals in the American ethos today and truth-tellers like them are on the margins of political discourse, quite ignored by mass media. That wasn’t always the case, and there must be a more concerted effort among us to discuss the real state of the State.

The past couple of days the propaganda campaign against Syria and Kurdish Syrians has been on overdrive. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Atlantic Council have all issued reports accusing both Syria and Rojava (Northern Syria) of war crimes. Trump is now becoming the biggest cheerleader for regime change and extended perpetual war.

The rhetoric of the Trump versus anti-Trump discourse is inescapable, however much we may want to steer clear of bombastic certitudes. Without trivializing the current political battle, I find a degree of solace in visualizing episodes of Spy vs. Spy comic strips as I move around in my home town. At least for the time being. For example, the sudden discovery of “an independent judiciary” is a lesson in hypocrisy for me. I mean, at the State level, judges are elected by both partisan and non-partisan elections, selected by state legislatures, and appointed by Governors. Federal judges across the board and at all levels are appointed by the President, and confirmed by the Senate.

BUTTE COUNTY, CA — Fire officials have issued evacuation orders for residents in Oroville, Marysville and areas of Yuba County Sunday evening. Officials said via social media that the auxiliary spillway of the Oroville Dam expected to fail. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Oroville at 4:15 p.m.
