Saturday Open Thread - 10/25/25: Odds and Ends

Hey, good people!
Monday in el's ot, I bitched about a judge being insulting to me, my client, and the attorney aligned with my client's child.
On Wednesday, the ruling was sent out to the parties, and it was in favor of my client.
Why we are in a contest of tariffs, or of any nature, with Canada above my pay grade.
When animals win, 'nuff said.
There is all kind of stuff and things going on in the world. Breached peace treaties, no peace treaties, etc...As the day goes on, events will happen and their posting in this thread, which is open to all things, is to drop in anything any of you think is important to share.Even winning animals!
We have a big storm a'coming and I will be inside, watching for articles and videos to share with you, my friends.
Vice versa?
Let 'er rip!

Hey, good morning!
.
Heard this melody from Hippie Soul Cafe which I wanted to share.
Glad you prevailed in the suit. Take your gains with less lost.

Ahh, the bachelor life!
Thanks for the OT.

Good morning, Cap'n!
Well, breakfast should be whatever rows your boat. That's important for a cap'n.
I rarely wake up hungry, and only eat a bite of something to keep my stomach from growling. I have better ways to get attention.
While food banks can't stock up enough food for the hungry, while we have record numbers of homeless, let's get all excited about a damn ballroom at the White House. I can't think of a better symbol for the 1%. They have their priorities.
I haven't checked out news headlines this morning. I wanted to sip coffee and watch some birds before I jerked myself back into reality.
Enjoy your day, dear friend, and thanks for the tune!

You won OTC, chuka he! (congrats)
Anytime I see that Secretariat video from Belmont, it reminds me of my late brother. In his heyday, he lived in the Village and played the horses at Belmont often. 5 years younger than me, yet people thought we were twins. I'm afraid I corrupted him by getting him a part time job selling pretzels at Roosevelt Raceway when he was 14 or 15 years old. I had worked there during the summer for a couple of years. Apologize I always tell that story.
Thanks for the O&E, OntheCusp. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Good morning...
Yesterday was busy here. Had our helper first thing. We hauled branches, cut a couple of trees blocking the trail and made a little firewood, and weedeated out front.
Then the plumber came to replace a failed check valve in our floor heat pump (it is about to get cold next week).
Then we set up for a campfire and dinner at the camp house and had guests during the evening and into the night.
A fun day but tiring.
Had a productive Trade day this AM. Found a nice fire set on a nice stand with a cover for outside for $15 and a new toaster oven pan set for $2.
Leaves are falling and raking season has begun. I have leaf blowers we use too.
Next week I'll get a load of horse manure to put in the garden. There plenty of horse manure in the news, but it doesn't help the garden. We got the sweet potatoes dug last weekend. Always something.
Well, y'all take care and have a good weekend! Thanks for the OT!

Good morning, LO!
Great shopping trip, eh? I so wish he had such a weekly event here. We have a giant annual yard sale event to raise money for the public library. I haven't been in years because I can't resist the temptation to fill up the back of the truck with stuff.
When living in the holler, "retirement" doesn't mean a cessation of work. It means different work. Glad you found a helper!
So, your camp house is turning into a party venue! How wonderful! Here's my camp house story: Around here, there are deer camps everywhere. Most of them have freezers where they stock up on deer meat. Seems this young man was accused of being in a theft ring that broke in the camps to steal the deer meat. I managed to keep him out of prison, and lo and behold, he completely reformed. If we cross paths, to this day, almost 40 years later, he will grab me, give me a big hug, and tell me he loves me. It's the little things...He was 17 when he got busted.
My shopping list is short, but I suspect I will see way more items as I shop that I should have added to said list.
Enjoy your day and have fun and make music with your friends!

Good morning otc, thanks for the OT. We were supposed
to get blasted by an atmospheric river starting yesterday - so far nada but now projected to get light rain this am. Probably will hit while we're at farmers' market because life is like that. Made pancakes this morning, just finished the last one. Starter is still lively, but should refresh later.
Ha an infusion yesterday, which meant that we did dinner out since it is still my week to cook through mañana. My life is lately on automatic, more or less, so it turns out that me GI specialist retired in Sept (who knew) and I need to line up a new one, I just have to remember to call come Monday. Meanwhile, time to get ome shoes on, feed the birds, and head on out for carrots and stuff.

Good afternoon, el!
Here of late, Dear One comes up with these dinner meal ideas that are great, and always featuring items I cook, not him. Hmmm...We are having chili con carne tonight. I have already cooked the pintos. He will do the rest. This is to usher in the cool weather. It rained here, but was not the flooding type first forecast. No power outages, no detour signs. Maybe enough to lift the burn ban.
Are the infusions a forever thing? Man, I hope finding a new dr. doesn't goof up the schedule. Around here, it takes months to get into to see a dr.
Well, enjoy your cooking, dear friend, and look forward to soon passing the torch. I meant, spatula...

AFAIK the infusions are a lifetime thing. With Kaiser
getting a replacement doctor is a phone call away, one can even get a new GP over the web, but specialists are a bit more special (heh). By law, MY GI has to approve each infusion, in advance, so a stand-in has been signing off on mine, one at a time. If I get replacemeet GI, they will be able to sign off on a whole quarter or two's worth at a time, simplifying the process for the GI dept, the pharma types and the infusion center all in one fell swoop.
Chili sounds good, it is that time of year.

Well, your dr. situation
sounds good. Lifetime of infusions sounds yucky. Too bad you can't get a port inserted so you could stay home and infuse yourself.
plans changed...we will dine out, save the chili for tomorrow.
Dear one had to wait 2 months to see his GI specialist. And what did the dr. bitch about? Dear One taking too long to get himself to a dr.!

Good morning, soryang!
@#music used to be so good. What happened? Where are the keyboardists? Actual good singers? Why am I suddenly wanting to find sheet music and tickle the ivories? And hunt for a good horse? Most of today's music makes me hunt for something to stop my head ache.
The most fundamental trial procedure is to ask your witness fact questions, to elicit who, what, when, where, how, and why facts into evidence. When questioning opposing witnesses, questions are supposed to lead to only yes or no answers. Leading questions are just the proper way to conduct yourself in trial. "Isn't it true you have been arrested twice for crimes of violence since the last time this case went to court?" drew an objection from the judge that I was injecting facts not in evidence. First, judges are not allowed to object. Secondly, it took me 10 minutes to get the man to admit he had 2 pending charges. If she is ever assigned to one of my cases in the future, I will tell my client to hire another attorney.
Did your brother ever see Secretariat? I bet Triple Crown race day was nuts!
Well, enjoy your weekend, my friend!

I, too, am done with riding.
I should donate all my riding attire to some training barn. I will keep my spurs.
I have seen horses break out of pens and pastures just to be free. I have seen them run to be with the herd or possible mate. The times I found myself with absolutely no control over my horses were when they were spooked. I think Wildfire went searching for his closest friend. My last 2 horses ran across the pasture at the sound of my truck coming home from work so they could say hello and give me a kiss.
