Donald J. Trump v. Steven A Smith
A few months ago I posted "It Could Get Even More Ridiculous."
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith Makes Announcement About 2028 Rumors
'I have no desire to be a politician, but I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to close that door...'
Smith has previously flirted with the idea of running for president since President Donald Trump resoundingly defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. At NAB Show in Las Vegas, he allegedly said he has “no choice but to get more serious about it.”
“I’ve been approached by people on Capitol Hill. I’ve been approached by people who are elected officials in office—whether it’s governors or mayors. … I have no desire to be a politician, but I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to close that door,” Smith claimed.
He continued, “I’m gonna keep my options open. I’m going to entertain the possibility. If it comes in late 2026, 2027, where I look at this country and think it’s an absolute mess and there’s legitimate reason to believe … that I indeed have a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States. I am not going to rule it out.”
My not so well disguised vice of being a sports fan has acquainted me with "Steven A." -- as he is called on his ubiquitous appearance on various ESPN channels. I call him the 21st Century Howard Cosell. He has a remarkable talent for being able to speed up and slow down his pace of speaking into the camera while continuing to make sense. He can do the same thing with his volume, and he frequently shouts at his TV audience -- spouting off his opinions about professional and college sports.
He makes tens of millions of dollars per year as an "analyst."
If Trump can go from hosting the utterly shitty Apprentice to the White House, why not this cretin?
In case any Trump Haters are wondering, yes, it could get worse -- and most of you will vote for him because at least he's not Trump.
Smith is on the air this week, working the political angle:
Stephen A. Smith warned that the FBI arrests of Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat point guard Terry Rozier related to illegal sports betting and rigged poker games were just the beginning of President Trump’s revenge agenda against NBA players.
On Thursday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced 34 arrests in relation to insider betting and Mob-backed poker games. Among them were Billups and Rozier. Smith said on ESPN’s “First Take” later that day to expect more crackdowns.
“We’ve seen accusations before,” he said. “We’ve seen athletes get in trouble with the law before. You don’t see the director of the FBI having a press conference. It’s not coincidental. It’s not an accident. It’s a statement, and it’s a warning that more is coming.”
Smith went on explaining that more people in the NBA – and possibly even the WNBA – could continue to be targeted by Trump’s administration in the future.
“This is just the tip of the iceberg,” Smith said. “It’s very concerning. We don’t know where this is gonna go. But everybody better brace themselves, because he’s coming.”
Who knows? I can imagine Smith winning the first few primaries, just as Sanders did both times out.
If that happens, we'll see what the Democrtic Party does. Smith is just as preposterous a candidate as Trump. But the Orange Fart Cloud has won two out of three times on the ballot.
Is this a great country or what?
