Welcome to Saturday - A special film

This is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, and while I don’t want to overstuff this with false hyperbole, My Octopus Teacher is one of the most genuine film experiences I’ve had in a very long time. A moving, educational, stirring and sometimes breath-taking journey that is both incredibly personal, and yet so powerfully connective. You’re going to meet an octopus, and she will move you in ways you won’t be prepared for.

Some music ...

Smiley has made good progress on the house front and will hopefully be back on Saturdays before long.

ps. If you don’t hear from me for a day or two, or more, it’s because the severe weather predicted came to pass, and I am without power.

Thankee Janis for getting this out before the storms hit.
Read a quip in my present tome about Octopi minds.
Something about looking into the mind of an octopi
will risk you losing yours. An alien thought form from a human
perspective.

Good luck!

Thanks for this trailer on a Saturday morning filled with chores. This will make it better. A friend had sent me this and you are correct; it is incredible.

Many years ago when vacationing on St. John’s in the Virgin Islands, we went on a night snorkel. Each of us had a underwater flashlight and we came on a group of small octopus. They were moving around and checking out the nooks and crannies of the rocks and then turned their attention to us and started swimming up to our face masks and looking right into our eyes! You are correct QMS it is an experience you will never forget. Had a hard time bringing ourselves to move elsewhere to see what other underwater experiences we could have.

Have a good Saturday all as I treat my deck and stain it before the winter truly comes in.

yet, but I do know that octopi are mind boggling from other vids and reading articles about them. They ar really fantastic creatures. Still trying to deploy new hardware here, so I won't segue into Octopus' Garden.

be well and have a good one

EDIT: changed "octopi and mind boggling" to "octopi ARE mind boggling"

I generally understand your speed typing, even without editing, but thank you for the enhanced clarity. There are moments of the film that will get your heart racing as well.

Octopus' garden is perfect. Lo posted the muppets version below, which is quite entertaining.

Thanks for the recommendation. We've had hurricane remnants Sally and Beta over the last couple of weeks, but fortunately didn't lose power. Clocked in with about 5" of rain between to two events, but the roads handled it and the new trees benefited. I've recently ordered more trees to plant this winter. Why not? Can't hurt and I like watching them grow.

Hope everyone has a good day! I learned this one after snorkeling in Mexico.
Here's the muppet version just for fun...

Nature offers many lessons. The trick is to open your heart and mind to them.

Thanks for the recommendation!

So true that nature offers many lessons; foremost I think, is that the appreciation and protection of nature (plant and animal, including us) enhances the mutual feeling of wellbeing and connection.

curl up and enjoy being inside.

I stumbled onto the film you highlight, and don't remember what drew me to watch it. There is no over hyping this wonderful documentary. The film value of the underwater Kelp forest and the interaction of the Octopus with the Human is a thing of beauty. It changed the main character for life. And tells a wonderful story.

Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

I also hope to be able to curl up relatively comfortably as the wind and rain blow and batter around me. It's late arriving but on its way.

Hope your storm has passed by now and you weathered it without having a power outage.

Our weather in south Texas is warm and humid, somewhere in the low 90's I think. I'm doing chores outside and have needed to escape indoors now and again to cool off.

Thank you for the film recommendation, it looks really good. Will put it on my 'to watch' list. I think family would enjoy it as well.

Thanks for the update on smiley it will be nice to 'see' him back when he is able to be here.

I'm headed back outside, hope to check in later and listen to all the musical selections.

Thank you for standing in Janis...best to you.

Thanks for the great rhythms in your musical selection. What a beautiful blend. I hope the power stays on during the heavy winds to come so that I can listen to this over and over again. I'm sure it would help to settle the agitation the wind brings. The storm is late but on its way.

Be well and stay cool.

@janis b . Hope it is not so blustery as anticipated.

Someone showed me this interesting wildlife webcam in Alaska. Right now they are filming the bears just before hibernation, fattening up on salmon. Next week is 'fat bear week' where people vote for their favorite fat bear that has been filmed on the web-cam. It's quite the competition. I wish I were there myself.

So far so good concerning the storm. It looks like it might be fizzling out, at least to some degree, hopefully.

Thank you for your well wishes.

octopus clip was very interesting--especially, the frame where there was a good shot of the octopus' eyes. Wow! Look forward to listening to the music videos while we eat in a few minutes.

Glad to hear that things are going well for Smiley, and that he'll be returning soon.

Stay safe.

All the cephalapods are great animals. Brilliant too. I love 'em. I heard many have a brain weight to body weight ratio very near that of man and dolphin. I have long said I do not think we are intelligent enough to figure out how smart Octos are. I have kept several types in marine aquaria, including the deadly Blue-ringed Octo, maybe the prettiest of them all. Also kept perhaps my fav ceph, the Chambered Nautilus. I once sold a bunch of Nautilus to the Denver Zoo and Sea World, both of whom spawned them but were losing the larvae at metamorphosis. An octo quickly learns which person brings the food. Check out Flamboyant Cuttlefish vids on youtube. I can get them. Wink

Boy though, are they and the octopus fascinating!

The sophisticated colour, shape, and texture - changing abilities is amazing. How adaptable can one be??

Thanks dystopian, for your little prompts and observations.
