Video News Open Thread: Shaun King on TYT

Cat Video Montage by ec.jpg

Greetings, 99%!

So many of us know Shaun King from That Other Place. And know that he moved on, to write for the New York Daily News. And that he is still writing about racial justice issues. So I thought you'd find it interesting that he has been interviewed on the TYT Network.

I have another Aminal Nooz diary I need to put up later today, but since this apparently just happened, I thought I'd put this up quickly. This 9-minute video has a link at the end to the full 1-hour-plus video, but I figured many of us wouldn't have time for all that so I am posting the shorter one. Enjoy!

[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XytDUg7hWAI width:500]

As always, this is an open thread. Please feel free to add videos in the comments, discuss Trump, politicians, video news, TYT, furbutts, activism, whatever rocks your world!

I think he still does, he needs to calm down and stop excess inflammatory rhetoric. He is all about his own best interests.

I completely understand where Sean King is coming from. This is why I could never vote for Donald Trump. But the problem I do have is that the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton is also racist and has shown no remorse for the wholesale killing of innocent people of color in her promotion of wars in the Middle East and her promotion of deportation of women and children to Honduras.

The problem here is that the choice is not either / or. The problem is that both candidates have shown themselves to be racist. Therefore, anyone who voted for either candidate can be lumped into the same basket of deplorables. This is exactly why I took such great offense to those who chastised me for voting for Jill Stein. Donald Trump's rhetoric has opened the door to individuals acting out upon it. Hillary Clinton's policy positions have resulted in millions of people dead, seriously injured, and made into refugees.

A human life is a human life. An American life should not have greater value than the life of someone from another country. This is not to mean that I think Donald Trump is not deplorable himself. The Democratic party created Donald Trump and the burden of guilt lies squarely upon the shoulders of the party establishment. They failed to offer desperate people a choice away from the status quo.

But I'm glad we're having this conversation.

This was why I went back and forth between the two of them. You either vote for one that doesn't care about ME lives. Or you vote for one that seems to enable attacks against American lives. Allowing either is racist.

Fortunately, no way Kentucky was going for HRC. So I could vote Jill and not change the mainstream outcome. Whatever happens, not my fault. The best thing I could do was try to get the Greens some traction. Sigh.

more than 1%. Some surveys said Jill had about 40% of the millennials. Where did they go?

It does matter because if the voting machines can be hacked, we should do something else with our time. I would like to see Clinton challenge the vote for that reason. We need to ensure that our votes are properly recorded. The time to do that is now, not a month before the next election.

The liberal strategy has shifted from screaming "racist!" to calmly explaining why people are racist.
Big deal. It's just a more humble sort of shaming.

Nowhere are liberals addressing the concerns of those who voted for Trump.
Those concerns can't be shamed away.

A better tactic would be explaining why Trump won't fix those concerns, but that would require caring about those people.

then went to work for a right wing New York daily paper. Why should we take him seriously? During the 10 months I was at the site I thought he used bullying tactics to cover up his lack of knowledge.

Don't remember the story, and refuse to go to Orange State to find it, but when I clicked on his link and read the WHOLE story from the original source, I realized that he conveniently omitted a very important fact of the whole story! Without it, he presented a truly outrageous injustice, and serious click bait. With it, it was just a story.

I began distrusting his writing after that, but dared not comment on his lack of integrity in his convenient omission, for fear of someone like DOV screaming that I was a flaming racist for not taking his words as golden.

Is not a right wing newspaper. You are thinking of the New York Post. The New York Daily News is more like a tabloid version of MSNBC, while the New York Post is more like a tabloid version of Fox News.

tabloid that pandered to the nastier segments of the population and to sports fans and fans of newspaper comic strips . I've read where comedians used to read the Letters to the Editor for laughs.

I admit to have not seen the paper for a long time, but it has had the reputation of being a conservative pandering joke.

If they have changed, I'll withdraw my comments.

For over 20 years. Left there 2 years ago. While I agree that The New York Daily News and The New York Post are both tabloid sensationalism "journalism", you can tell they are pitching to different audiences just by their take on current events. The Daily News still makes a pretense of being on the "Left". Not meaning to pick a fight with you, I was just trying to correct an error.

is there a way for us to collectively quit using the phrase "basket of deplorables"?
Every time someone does, it gives credence to the originator. "She" likely is proud of it and as such every time I see or hear it, it pisses me off more.
May it fade into history as fast as "she" hopefully does.

I dropped this in Steven's diary, but as this is a video clip thread I'll add it here as well. I miss Jon, but I've grown to like Jimmy Dore and Lee Camp. One must find humor where they can.

Let me put this as mildly as I can. Shaun King is as much of a Hillaryputz sellout as Rachael Maddow.

Is Shaun King #With John McCain? Does Shaun King agree with McCain's threat against Trump waging peace against Russia?

Does Shaun King think Obama did brown skinned immigrants a lot of big favors? Does Shaun King think Trump could possibly be worse than Hillary on destroying the environment?

I have nothing but contempt for Shaun King.

I say that the people who voted for Hillary is okay with her warmongering and don't care that she has helped destroy 4 countries, killed at least hundreds of thousands of people and was going to continue killing people in the Middle East and risk a war with Russia.
Sorry, Shaun both sides were willing to accept the worst of both candidates.
Bernie offered us something totally different from those two and people said that he couldn't win.
He could have won if those dumbshits voted for him.
Until they didn't get the chance because of how the election was rigged against him.
And when Bernie was defeated by those tactics then people still had another candidate to vote for.

Just because it is less evil, it's still evil.

Exactly what I'm talking about here:

Complete agreement with that analysis. There were many legitimate reasons to despise and fear a Hillary Clinton presidency. I registered Green and voted for Jill Stein, but if forced to choose between Trump and Hillary I would have voted Trump. In my opinion Henry Kissinger's endorsement was a sufficient reason to choose Trump over Hillary. Does that make me a racist, sexist homophobe? Or does that make me a principled anti-war activist?

Seems that Trump voters aren't the only ones getting violent.

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say four people have been charged in the videotaped beating of a man as bystanders yelled “Don’t vote Trump.”

Authorities say 26-year-old Julian Christian, 21-year-old Rajane Lewis, 20-year-old Dejuan Collins and a 17-year-old girl who wasn’t identified were each charged with vehicular hijacking in the Nov. 9 incident. Christian is from Broadview, Illinois, and Lewis and Collins are from Chicago.

Forty-nine-year-old David Wilcox says he was attacked after another car scraped his. He says he was beaten after parking and asking the other driver if he had insurance. Someone drove off with Wilcox’s car during the attack on Chicago’s West Side.

Wilcox acknowledges he supports President-elect Donald Trump, but says he told no one in the crowd that.

Another video with suspect audio track, meant to mislead people into believing black people beat up Trump supporters "just because"? When I first saw this video, complete with non-stop racist trolls in the comments, working themselves up into hysteric levels of hatred and anger, my first thought was "Looks like a car-jacking. Wonder if the audio was dubbed on?" -And now the victim says he didn't say anything about being a Trump supporter? Hmmm. I guess that would be audio dubbed on.

Anybody know the original source for this clip? Because after the audio track edit to falsely show BLM protestors chanting "kill a cop", I just get really suspicious of "news" clips that match up exactly with the aims of a racist white agenda. Is the clip from Breitbart? Faux? -Or one of the MSM who are basically establishment tools, one and all?

In the old days, we had these folks called reporters that probably would have already sussed these questions out, even BEFORE THEY AIRED THE FUCKER. What a bunch of useless toadies our "news" sources have become. Eric Severeid must be rolling over in his grave.

to point out that for years we were the only place a massive mixture of humans came to live, while where they came from is still a killing ground to date

and that such a culture of human mixing is very good for inspiration, productivity, cooperation, wealth

our present disarray and rejectiion of the status quo, if we manage to continue to do it despite the police state tactics, could lead to change all over the world

can't seem to wrap their heads around is that these people don't care that he doesn't like them any more. That whether he lives or dies isn't as important as whether they themselves live or die. For years we've tried to tell them where this road leads, and they just keep insisting, alternately, that everything is fine and getting better, and that their wound is deeper.

The voters gave his team a chance to change and they chose to cash in, just like their parents did in the '80s.

continuation of Obama as life or death? That is, the loosely middle class who voted for Trump?

Interesting.

I voted for Jill, so certainly saw Hill's negatives. But had I been in a swing state I probably would have voted for Hill because she might be marginally better. So I have been trying to figure this out. Can you tell me more?

What would Hillary do or not do that Trump would fix?

"loosely middle-class" is, IMO, one the central issues. We have at least two generations among us that have lived their lives under a specific set of rules, and with a specific set of expectations in exchange for following those rules. You are familiar with the quotation about Americans being "temporarily embarrassed millionaires", well that was, and to a large degree still is, true. Every survey ever done on this yields the same results, Americans chronically mis-estimate their financial and social position within their own communities. We have people making a quarter mill and more each year that think of themselves as middle class and we have people subsisting on 1/10, or less of that, that also think of themselves as middle class.

We live in a fantasy that, while it has never been true, it was very well constructed and publicized, and until the 21st century, was granted in sufficient numbers to keep it plausible. Then in 2000 they pulled the trigger. The SCOTUS over-ruled the voters and imposed the existing Oligarchy on the world.

Now we have tens millions of Americans that have had everything, the entire product of their lifetime of work, stolen by the same people that broke the contract in the first place, and to whom the law is never, ever applied.

I suppose we could try to catalog each betrayal, but I feel that the fact that anyone with any interest can name three off the top of their head, sufficiently makes the point.

I have yet to meet a single person that voted for Dawhnytahnyhands, I'm sure they exist here, but everyone I talked to voted against Hillary and the Democratic Party. Democrats nearly ran this state's election, but they did so because the republicans were just that much worse, and this state is not very unusual.

Like Brexit, Dawhnytahnyhands was the only chance they've been allowed to send a "Fuck You!", loud and clear, to the parasites that misrule. The revolution is already happening throughout society and around the world, and the only people that are unaware of that are the gatekeepers and employees of the parasites. Watch France and Germany, now.

And that brings us back to Shaun and his penchant for being wrong. He listens to liars.

The first lesson NYC taught me is that you don't worry about the crazy asshole screaming that he hates you, you worry about that nice quiet guy that's always "got your back" right up until he plunges his knife into it.

Malcom X figured it out the first time, why don't more of us?
