Trump about to screw over MAGA voters: part 3
Let's ignore for a moment the cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and the Department of Education, all of which will disproportionately harm red states. Let's also overlook the harm caused to the VA.
This essay will be about tariffs and red states.
Canada and the European Union are punching back against President Donald Trump’s tariffs, with new levies on American imports tailor-made to cause the most pain to Republican-leaning and swing states.
...
Notable in the EU and Canada announcements are the targets. Rather than an across-the-board tariff, Canada earlier this month imposed levies on peanut butter, orange juice, spirits, and other products whose production is centered in states that tend to vote for Republicans.Florida, for example, accounts for around 60% of U.S. orange juice imports into the country, according to the Florida Department of Citrus. Kentucky is a major whiskey exporter to both Canada and the EU, while Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina are among the U.S.’s biggest peanut producers.
Our allies don't appear to view all Americans as the problem. Just MAGA. The targeted tariffs go beyond just that.
Tariffs will also be hitting soybeans in Louisiana (Mike Johnson’s home state); beef and poultry in Kansas and Nebraska; and produce in Alabama, Georgia, and Virginia.
Our allies are pissed, and that anger has spilt over into other areas.
Canada is reviewing its contract with US defense manufacturer Lockheed Martin to purchase F-35 fighter jets, its defense minister said on Friday.Speaking to CBC, Bill Blair said he had spoken with newly appointed Prime Minister Mark Carney and that they were now looking at "other alternatives" to the F-35.
...
Blair's comments came just a day after Portugal announced that it was also reconsidering purchasing the F-35.Portuguese Defense Minister Nuno Melo told local outlet Público on Thursday that he was wary of replacing older US-made F-16 fighter jets with F-35s in the wake of President Donald Trump's recent policy shifts.
One more related point, it seems that the Republican leaders love DOGE so much that they are unleashing upon their voters at the local level. Republican and libertarian leaders in at least 18 states have made the choice to cut jobs in the name of cutting.
Numerous Republican-led states are seeking to implement measures to slash the size and cost of state governments in an effort to mirror the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Washington.Governors in Oklahoma and New Hampshire have used their executive authority to establish DOGE-like commissions, while state lawmakers in Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri have introduced measures to establish their own versions of the department.

Sure let’s do this
.
But let’s not ignore how Schumer and other democrats allowed this to be in the bill that republicans passed. If you can’t see that this agenda has bipartisan support I don’t know what will take your blinders off.
Again let’s not forget how Clinton eliminated welfare in this country a got NADTA passed and how both he and Obama wanted to privatize social security. But let’s just blame the republicans for all the crappy things done to the working class and the poor.
Funny how when republicans cut taxes the democrats come along and make them permanent and don’t do a damn thing to roll them back.
This blaming republicans for everything wrong in this country is getting old and especially when you know that democrats are just as responsible.
Kos has written another diary on how MAGA is getting screwed by Trump in case you want to read it and cheer along with the shitlibs. It doesn’t seem to matter how many democrats are also getting screwed by Trump as long as they can get their rocks off over the misery.
The Washington Generals should probably sue the Democrats for copyright infringement.
Right!
Yep
Democrats have been the fake opposition party for decades. Remember that democrats racked up the anger against what Bush was doing, but when they got the chance to hold him accountable Pelosi said that she was keeping her powder dry. I’m betting democrats have had to find more rooms to store their dry powder.
This article puts the blame where it belongs.

Let's talk about blinders
I couldn't help but notice that your reply didn't address any of my points. In fact, it got me thinking and I went back to check your previous replies. It was 2024.
Every time you replied to me you either assumed what I think (without any evidence) and then denounced that opinion, or you did an obvious whataboutism, or both. Either way you never even bother to attempt to contradict my points, but you do try to use your opinions as a reason to ignore my facts.
What is that if not blinders?
I'll wait to see exactly what cuts and up being to what programs
I went to my state and looked for Inflation Reduction Act spending that was yet to be spent, because we have a lot left over. I only looked at orgs and issues I'm familiar with, environmentalism.
I found 20 orgs I'd never heard of before with tiny grants to restore Colorado river riparian areas or similar. A million to a few million dollars, I don't remember anything over ten but there might have been. I looked up the orgs, very often two salaries staffers, some kind of BS board, no other history. Political patronage and they hadn't been able to actually find anyone to do any work yet, so far only salaries.
I think there is a ton more out there just like it. Include the words indigenous and you double the size of the grant. Disempowered peoples. Slip in the word equity maybe.
I'm sure good programs are getting the axe, but a look at how we got here is educational.
I'm not betting on any cuts to Medicare or SS, or Medicaid. I'll believe it when I see it. Hurting red states? Puhhlease. Trump voters live in NYC, they are pissed about immigration.
