Morning, hope the day finds each of you healthy and content.

Contemplating the motivation for greater resilience in our lives.

It is more satisfying to move towards something one desires, than to run away from a fear. It does not change the the start position and often the end point is in the same place. It is the enjoyment of the journey. No matter how hard ones runs fear is always right behind. Ironically small moments of joy are often missed if we do not watch for them.

Is life full of challenges to experience

or burdens to endure?

Farm Report
Chickens are done free foraging as of yesterday. I am missing a hen and saw a coyote walking across the field behind the house. Found the place in the fence he entered and closed the opening. Winter coop has been set up. Donkey have been let in the field to graze and will harass the coyote if he comes back by that route.

As the leaves disappear secrets of the trees are revealed.

Sounds like you have a nice farm. Envious.

On a not-nice note, some Obamacare lady said on PBS Newshour last night that Obamacare insurance rates on the exchanges are going up AN AVERAGE OF 37% THIS YEAR. Are you F'n kidding me?! The most expensive healthcare in the world by double (and triple/quadruple most) is going up nearly 40% in one year. And it is ranked 29th for health outcomes. It's called Gouging.

Stand by for congress finger pointing by both parties -- neither of which is on the side of the working class. If the government wasn't so hopelessly corrupt at all levels, this would not be tolerated.

Am enjoying it more than I imagined. Many cultures with larger urban centers over the course of time have developed the concept of moving to the country to retire or as a get away from the pressures of life. Decided to go with the flow.

The donkeys have been more effective than the advice from the local USDA wildlife management services. Make sure a gun is close and ready for use. The individual agents have been extremely responsive and helpful in assisting me to identify the type of predator problems experienced in the past. The animal husbandry changes have prevented repeat problems. new ones due occur occasionally and their experience is useful.

being judged based upon the medical care and/or health care it provides, which was not its purpose. Its purpose was to legally enshrine and perpetuate the fact that we have an insurance based health services model, and it has done that wonderfully well. Had investment returns not fallen through the floor and stayed there, insurance company returns would have skyrocketed through the stratosphere and stayed there.

a percentage of health care cost (20%). The easiest way to increase dollars is to increase payments to health care providers and institutions. Leads to practices such as a cardiologist diagnosing a stomach ulcer and providing treatment not be paid for the visit. He probably will be paid if you are given a referral to a gastroenterologist for diagnosis and treatment. Both doctors being paid for a visit and delayed treatment for the patients, now maybe dealing with complications.

Sending a patient to the emergency room (ER) often bypasses the need for prior approval for tests or treatments. In the local area, an office visit to an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist for significant nose bleed can only be obtained after an ER visit.

that, but there is no restriction on investment income, iirc, especially if there is a non-health parent company. Insurance companies have always made most of their bux from investments.

The farm looks great. I don't know if I miss the seasons enough to want to come back.
I admit it....I'm a sucker for baby animals. Ok...sqwee...there I said it.

your favorite seasons. Spring can be short of blooms and in the past would regularly travel to the Willamette valley in Oregon in peak bloom season for frost sensitive spring plants. Now have a sun room to grow blooms year around. Can you travel up in elevation to experience the sense of seasons?

south. I recall hiking along at somewhere around 10 to 12 thousand feet in the Andes in lush foliage looking for and at hummingbirds and such. Well above the tree line or even vegetation line here, and instead of barren granite I was in something very akin to a rainforest.

I have to go run an errand for my kid, but wanted to write a quick thing.

Good morning SOE and all! I enjoyed the song and poem. Thank you.

I have been contemplating this very thing for a long time.

I started working on a website yesterday (I see Aspie is doing the same thing. Cool)

http://nowthepathforward.us It doesn't look like much yet. I installed Moodle on it. It is an educational content management system that I used while I was still teaching. I am going to start a "course." Not exactly sure of the topic yet. It will not so much be a class, but a moderated ongoing discussion. Hope to link it with c99 somehow. Plus, I will be inviting you folks to do "courses." Not sure how to set the parameters there. For example, if someone wants to do a class on "Building Resilient Sex Toys" or whatever . . . nah . . . won't want to host that kind of stuff. Smile

Ideas?

Mine will have something to do with my gardening and daily uplifting rituals I think.

It froze here over the weekend, so the cucuzza squash, and some other veggies are done. More about that later.

initial development of content and flush out the site rules. Once you have experience running the site open it wider. If subjects comes up you do not want to host you will feel more comfortable handling the difficult and awkward issues.

Exciting news. I have learned a lot from your hay bale experiments.

Frost on squash is so dramatic. Volumes of large green leaves hiding squash and covering the ground and tether poles reduces to shriveled, blackened lumps and naked squash.

An excellent poetic description! I had three cucuzza to bring in and put in the freezer. One giant one is still outside for seeds. Wonder if I need do anything special to it?

Was just visiting the list of web sites I'm not supposed to visit and saw NK had a nuclear oops.

https://www.globalresearch.ca/north-korea-nuclear-testing-tunnel-collapse-fears-of-radiation-leaks-will-trump-resort-to-fire-and-fury-insanity/5616243

Urgent warnings of a radiation leak have been issued after the collapse of a tunnel under North Korea’s 7,200 foot high Mount Mantap, under which the country tests their weapons systems.

The accident, believed to have happened on 10th October – though it only came to light on 31st October – is a disaster which is reported to have killed two hundred people. Were it anywhere else on earth it would surely be a headline tragedy, with Heads of State sending their condolences and offering assistance.
...
Time for neighbouring countries and US allies to use this disaster to put out the hand of friendship, offer help, diplomacy and normality to a country which has literally built itself up from the ashes, of every town, city and village destroyed by America little over sixty years ago.
...
Incidentally Donald Trump is to leave for the region and for South Korea on Sunday. He was to visit the border area, a must-do photo-op for visiting warmongers. The day the possible radiation leak was announced, he cancelled the visit.

@lotlizard thanks, downloaded and listening now. Maybe a peace movement exists in Korea:
2. What are your plans for Trump’s upcoming visit to South Korea and beyond?

The South Korean public is highly critical of Trump—for denouncing Obama’s policy of strategic patience as a failure but still continuing the same policy of sanctions and military pressure; openly making threats of war and dismissing the gravity of its consequences as something “over there”; demanding that South Korea pay for the cost of hosting the THAAD missile system and US troops; and demanding the renegotiation of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement. The general mood here about Trump’s upcoming visit is one of anger.

We are working with other progressive forces and peace organizations to organize coordinated and joint actions under the banner of “No Trump.”

Beginning with a press conference today, we will carry out a series of actions until the last day of Trump’s visit on November 8. Leading up to his visit, our aim is to generate an anti-Trump consensus among the broader public. To this end, we will hang large banners that say, “War-threatening, weapons salesman Trump unwelcome,” “No war No Trump,” “No THAAD, no war threats, no sanctions” all across the country, post pamphlets at every bus station, hold simultaneous one-person relay protests across the country, and get organizations representing various sectors of the progressive movement to release statements denouncing Trump. On Saturday, November 4, we will hold a mass demonstration, then during his visit on November 7 and 8, we will organize joint actions outside the Blue House, at Gwanghwamun Plaza and outside the National Assembly.

carry nuclear fallout to west coast. A nuclear bomb does not need to reach us to have significant issues.

@studentofearth thanks, I had no idea there was such a thing as TMS, poor Mount Mantap.
Not sure about the sources I'm linking today, just grabbing random stuff off the top of search returns to make a point: New North Korea Concern: 'Tired Mountain Syndrome'

"Tired mountain syndrome" has previously been observed at other nuclear test sites in the US and Soviet Union. It essentially means a mountain is under such stress that the collapse of cavities or tunnels is possible. In North Korea's case, the Sept. 3 blast is likely to have caused "substantial damage to the existing tunnel network under Mount Mantap," analysts say. But as there are "two other, as yet unused tunnel complexes" at Punggye-ri, the analysts believe underground nuclear tests will likely continue.

What other kind of massive death device has Trump deployed against underground tunnel complexes? Never mind, don't answer. Don't even think about it.

good luck

now I have to find sufficient proper containers to freeze most of it in. I also need to freeze and/or dry herbs, like parseley (I'm going to try freezing it into a "log") and chives. Thanks for the ongoing inspiration.

laid individually to freeze, then stacked. I use this method when short of plastic containers. I don't use glass since I am not careful enough to always adjust for the expansion of water as it freezes. Sound yummy.

Also use glass jars to freeze jam and sauerkraut. I just started saving all of those odd jars that don't work for conventional canning. So far so good. I set them in the baskets in my freezer.

I like the idea of freezing soup! Thanks!
