Morning, el. Impressions flow from almost each sentence of your
OT this morning; history, births and deaths entwined, inseparable in the larger kaleidoscope proving that individuals do change the course especially when standing together and giving me a simple reminder that history does matter and man's societal evolution is painted in blood.
Damn a pendulum which swings to good and doesn't stay...the why escaping me as always.
Yesterday's March gives me hope mixed with memories of battles won yet left to fight again and and again as the perpetual war continues dulling me as well with regrets that i should have contributed more given opportunities i've enjoyed.
Ginsberg and the Bohemians and we hippies weren't 'Howling' at the moon, we were attempting to take flight to find meaning and peace and i think it could undo us all if we see yesterday in quaint colors as Maya reminds us, 'the tide will rise.'

Good morning, smiley7. A lot of days are like that. Your
comment reminds me of all the cudgels I took up and all the causes I fought for (and still do) in one way or another. It also reminds me, as I am so often reminded, of how many of the victories turned to to be temporary, whether they were cultural shifts, government regulations or judicial decrees. Yet, time marches on and so must we, and the youth are now marching (again). Sad that they must, good that they do, but for how long?
Each year brings more history to learn and to learn from, but how much is told and how much hidden, how much truth and how many lies and distortions? I wish them luck and good fortune, but we all know that it will be a bear. Perhaps enduring music and art is, in the last analysis, the best hope and instructor. Isn't Guernica worth far more than 1,000 words, but, still, it needs many words and recited facts to set the scene and paint the background so that it can speak.

Another half inch of rain last night as spring continues to unfold. I had forgotten about John and Yoko's bed-in for peace...all we are saying...
I still hope for peace. Even the necks here in the south are sick of our senseless wars. Heard a couple of hillbillies saying we need to take care of our country and quit spending everything overseas. The time is ripe...if we only had a megaphone. Perhaps the teachers and students will provide us a voice?

Good morning, Lookout, rain here too. I had hoped to have
had good weather for a couple of weeks, so that the spring garden could be set up and more or less on autopilot by now. Time is shortening.
Its funny, most of my life the cry to spend here instead of abroad was all about cutting foreign aid, while we dumped ever more into overt and covert wars, the MIC, and the CIA and its follies and crimes. I'm still not sure that folks really understand how much we continue to pour into that rathole.
Hey - it's a jobs program. Fine, take every warrior stationed in secure places like Japan, Germany, and the like and bring them home and pay them to spend their money here instead of over there. That alone would help the infrastructure and economy. That's without shutting down all of our actual warring, warmaking and warpimping.
Let's stop the crusades and crusaders, the results are in, they invariably accomplish disruption, death, and disturbance that benefits none. Piles of treasure and lives destroyed for nothing. In the end is is a continuing monumental transfer of wealth, energy and life from the non-elites to the elites. The former have to seriously learn that they aren't invited in and never will graduate to elite status, and that they need to become levellers in order that they can live out their days in some sort comfort and accomplish such worthwhile and satisfying things as they might.

I, as very middle-class went to a private girls' school for HS
and could act the act amongst the wealthy. There was not much in common. And I learned. I did not have much in common.

I was hoi polloi, even for public school, but bright enough to
be thrown in the AP classes, so I ran with some of the more rebellious bourgeoise kids as well as the scrufty set. It was muy interesante. I can't pass because I never really tried, I'm just an educated po boy a long way from home and an unrepentent 60s radical to boot. I couldn't hide it if I tried, and I don't.

Flurries earlier, sun now.
I am hoping to be brave enough to venture outside. I have fallen in snow/ice combos three times of three days. I would like to get some garbage down the driveway, much held for the winter. Monthly bills and tags on 20 lb that must also be on each bag. Also slow on recycling, a different day, same company, multi-state.
We are living in perilous times now (Bolton????). Meanwhile I have not looked at my income at all, either from SS survivors or AXA. I have yet to trigger TIAA. And still have not gotten my largish inheritance from my mother's will.

IIRC, Mssr. le Dead Head, the subscripts are there, but
secret. In the menu above this typing window, the 4th box from the right is less than followed by greater than. Those symbols, as a pair, create html when they enclose a proper set of characters. "sub" is the set of characters for subscript. Thus, I should be able to go H2O and get aqua. I typed my less than and such, so that is H sub 2 /sub O where both the sub and /sub are enclosed in the less than greater than pair. I've never used the menu -- well, how about H2O - JtC's menu key puts the symbol and you replace the included prompts "code" with "sub". et voila!

And it did become necessary. As I prophesied, the Ides of March Decree, complete with plenty of banhammers, came down at Daily Kos, and we here were the designated lifeboat for such freethinking progressives as refused to let Markos Moulitsas, Bubba Clinton, and Company do our thinking for us.
Even two years and change later, the need to pass "hints and tricks" around has not diminished. So we all still share. It's part of the c99 culture, and I for one am proud of it!
