Street Prophets

Right now I have been knocked flat with the mother of all sinus infections. When I feel better I will write more about Street Prophets. We used to have our own site but when DK4 hit Kos took that away from us and we are under Daily Kos. However we remain true to our original purpose.

"Street Prophets is the forum that mobilizes progressive people of faith to name, discuss and take action on critical political and religious issues. So come on in and make yourself at home. We believe that most, if not all topics touching on faith and politics are appropriate on Street Prophets. While this forum represents people of widely differing (and often directly conflicting) theologies, our goal here is to focus on forwarding the progressive political discussion that our shared values make possible. The Street Prophets blog was originally founded by Daniel Schultz, a ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, and Markos Moulitsas, as an offspring of Daily Kos. Street Prophets seeks to change the "moral values" conversation by fostering community; promoting informed opinion and moving its members to action. We are believers in "justice, freedom, compassion and love," in the words of Rita Nakashima Brock. We are progressive, Democratic-leaning and vitally concerned with those whom Jesus called "the least of these." We are the faithful for whom the religious right emphatically does not speak. Its vibrant community of netroots faithful includes a broad range of faiths, including devout Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Atheists, Animists, and Neo-pagans. All who seek to promote a new conversation about the role of religion in America's public life are welcome here."

I do Thursday and Sunday Coffee Hours. Ojibwa does Tuesday and Saturday. With Linkage on Monday and Marko the Werelynx on Friday. Wednesday is various authors. It is a safe place in the madness of DK and the main reason why I can't leave DK permanently. Today's Coffee Hour is a spring flower picture diary.

last year (as feather fall) before I couldn't stand the corporatist conservadem site any longer. Please consider bringing Street Prophets over to c99. If you can't, please consider posting it here, rather than provide a link to there. (You'll find JtC's software delicious compared to the clunker they run.)

Many of us will not ever set foot there again. C99 however, is a paradise for for Street Prophet-minded folks. Come on over and bring the progressive folks with ya. They don't belong on a conservadem site. Here on c99, I would like to see folks cut the cord to Zuniga's site completely. My philosophy is: grieve it, but leave it. Live and work in free air. The opportunity cost of spending time/energy/resources there is too, too much. We need to use that energy to build the progressive movement here and everywhere. Zuniga's conservadem site belongs in the rearview mirror - receding fast.

Please forgive my bluntness. I do not mean to denigrate your work there. It is oxygen for folks who can't breathe there, but their real home is with progressives, not conservadems. Best wishes to you and Ojibwa,

A. Are the rumors true that KOS has taken over that blog and renamed it Steep Profits?

B. To save a White Mulberry tree's baby fruit from a late frost, does one need to invest in itty bitty mulberry gloves?

C. To avoid sticking your butt out into highway traffic, should you try to get flat tires only on the passenger side?

D. If Dental Floss is used not only on teeth, but on MacGyver's contraptions, what other uses are there for Mental Floss?

We can't bring Street Prophets anywhere else since the original agreement was between Kos and Pastor Dan who still owns the legal rights to it. Kos ignores us. I really don't think he realizes we exist. The Help Desk knows us because we frequently bitch at them about not being able to post to our own queue. Frankly I think the Front Page people feel we are an irritant and would love us to go away which is one of the reasons we don't. We are an entity in our own right and not part of the Daily Kos scene. We just take up his bandwidth.

Dental floss true story. When I moved into the house in Indiana to be caregiver to my Mom the towel rack in the upstairs bathroom was coming down. There was basically just poster board on that wall anyways so there was nothing to really hold it up after my brother jerked it loose. So I used spackling around the ends to glue it to the wall and since I didn't feel like holding it until it dried I took some dental floss and wrapped it around the middle of the bar and up to a nail holding a picture and let it dry overnight. Worked like a charm.

I get that it would be real hard. Consider this though. You'd be loved here. And appreciated every day. You could breathe - clean free air. You'd be proud again. You'd love the helpdesk - hah, hah, hah, helpdesk: you won't nee a helpdesk here; JtC is a genius who write buzifull, clear and easy code. C99 would rejuvenate you and your writing. (Excuse my bluntness; I dunno how else to talk.) If you get paid there, find a new revenue stream. It is worth it. My best wishes to you; we'd be so happy to see you here.

I do not get paid for writing. I have an obligation to support Ojibwa and my other Admins on Street Prophets. I am letting them know I am here and the only things I write are the two diaries for Street Prophets. There are still some really good people over there. You won't find us on the Front Page.

The main writing I am doing now is for here. If people want I'll be more than happy to post the actual Thursday Coffee Hour and Sunday All Day Brunch directly here. When I don't have such a pounding headache I'll write about the people there who have helped me through some real tough times. I am starting to see their names here so we are migrating. There is a back story that explains why I'm still there.

I understand what you are saying and believe me you will be seeing a lot of me here. Word of warning I do write frequently about Princess Pixie. Biggrin

Over there I can enjoy. I really enjoy Ojibwa's articles and would miss them terribly. Darksyde's science and MB's eco compilations would be missed, too. And until Chris Reeves posts here regularly, I have to go for the local news since TV is roku and it might be a week between buying papers. And I have to have the morning culpa with the MOTley crew.

I understand many are pissed at TOS, including me. My clicks don't generate anymore revenue for him than MSN gets because I generally use Explorer. I come from a particularly hateful, full-blown infrared part of Kansas. I've learned to shut up and just avoid the trouble spots. People with Dem stickers on their car get egged, keyed and carts ran into them daily. Yard signs get torn, trampled, and even driven over. So I can handle the shit over there while enjoying what is still good. As I can enjoy the good here and ignore any crap.

Of what you've been doing, here. How silly to think anybody could own street prophets. Street prophets are everywhere, with many names.
