The Problem is Clear, Billionaires Beware, We're Coming for You

capitalism.jpg

Billionaires are the symbol, but the real problem is this out of control capitalist economic system. It's changed since the good old days of normal American style inequality to a runaway, literally, psycho global style of capitalism creating billionaires hand over foot and heading unabated to the era of trillionaires. We'll probably have trillionaires before our non-representatives actually pass a higher national minimum wage.

Check out the trajectory. Straight up. And as far as I know, there has been zero conversation by our government leaders, i.e., Congress and Senate, about the incredibly expanding wealth inequality. Certainly not from President Billionaire. (Good grief!) Absolutely nothing is being done to address this crucial issue let alone even acknowledge it. And with the sheeple, it's like war, most continue to slobber over movie stars, pro athletes, and British royalty, or play video games and watch Dancing with the Stars rather than stretch their little minds to realize this shit has got to stop.

When lotteries became popular, the hook was that anyone could be a millionaire. Now the national lottery is approaching ONE BILLION dollars. People have accepted this level of inequality, they've accepted that there a large number of people who can afford to live far more extravagantly than any king, queen or ruler from human history. Somehow it's become normal and accepted and authenticated by the masses who idolize and/or envy the lives of the rich and famous.

inequality_0.jpg

income growth.jpg

But a fire can be lit. The gap will continue to grow, which can only mean more will be kept down, more poverty, more wars will be waged, more imperialism will be conducted, the police state will continue to grow and this country and the world will become even more fucked up than it is now.

Because there is nothing to stop it. Sooner or later most of us will have no choice but to fight back.

Some of my comments make it look like I didn't learn how to spell. I cringe at this when I re-read them and hope that no one has noticed them. Wacko
Or they are too polite to bring them to my attention.

One thing I have noticed about this site is that everyone adds their own thoughts to their comments, we aren't just an echo chamber and parrot the same type of wording that they are commenting on.

and is now out of control. You are right that people will eventually rise up against them and that the militarized police are going to be ready for them.
The PTB have set this up very well and the window for us to do something is rapidly closing before anything we try to do is going to fail.
People have watched while the police brutality has continued to get worse after each protest or event.
It's not just what happened to the OWS, BLM and DAPL protests when their brutally continued to get more violent. It's what happened after the Boston bombings when SWAT went into people's homes without a warrant because they said they were looking for the Tsarnaev brothers. This was a trial run to see how people would react to martial law. They failed. Spectacularly.
A mercenary company was in charge of the DAPL protests and they didn't bother with our rights. They were allowed to spy on people's social programs and other unconstitutional actions.
Wasn't it during the OWS protests when police arrested people before anything happened because they were leaders?
This happened and people yawned about it.

Meteor Man's picture

Over at Common Dreams by Paul Street. A couple of short excerpts from an excellent summary:

This is ecocidal petro-capitalist madness on steroids.

Madness brought to you courtesy of Inclusive Capitalism:

According to one British media report, the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism’s opening conference boasted a “guest-list … estimated to hold one-third of the world’s investable assets, around £18tr [nearly $25 trillion].”

One of the coalition’s leading speakers and champions is the great arch-neoliberal, former U.S. President Bill Clinton (with a net worth of $80 million)—a right-wing Democrat who did every bit as much to advance the Wall Street “free market” and globalist agenda as Ronald Reagan.

The solution:

Can environmental catastrophe be averted under capitalism? Not likely. Shifting from fossil fuel reliance and other unsound environmental societal habits and practices—built-in obsolescence, mass consumerism and the endless pursuit of quantitative economic growth, accumulation and “cheap nature” resource appropriation—requires a level of coordinated social and public intervention so extreme that it is incompatible with continued capitalist control of the means of production, investment and distribution. It requires an empowerment of ordinary people and a radical rehabilitation of the concept of the natural and social commons—things that very likely cannot be attained under the continued rule of capital. Stark as American activist Joel Kovel’s formulation may sound, I suspect he is right: “The future will be eco-socialist, because without eco-socialism there will be no future.”

I am constantly seeing people saying that they don't want any part socialism because they have been told that it leads to communism. This has been pounded into their brains since grade school.
They don't understand how it even works, but they have been told over and over that they don't want any part of it.
I have explained that social security, Medicare, police, fire departments and other agencies are considered socialism, but their minds have been made up.
This is something else that we have to get people to understand. I have no idea how to do this, but it's a good place to start.

Yep. Bill was able to get republican legislation passed that no republican could ever do. Obama followed in his footsteps and did the same things. Bush got feedback on his domestic and foreign policies, but Obama rarely did. Figure this out.

The movie that personifies and 'makes' Christmas for me is the old 'A Christmas Carol', with Alistair Sim, and to a lesser extent, despite it not being Christmassy, Oliver Twist.

Since many people may have never grown up with or even seen these movies or read any Dickens at all, this may not work, but what sprang to my mind was the question: you prefer a Dickensian society to a socially responsible one?

But some people might have cheered the alternative ending of Tiny Tim dying from lack of good food and medical care, his father perishing of overwork and the family starving on the streets, as the prospect of Americans dying from lack of money for medical care was so notoriously cheered by some other Americans.

And that of the survival of The Poors being dependent upon charity whenever disaster struck, rather than aid being provided so that 'no bird could fall' unnoticed and unaided in an uncaring, pathological society wired the draining of all for the few.

Of course, they'll be assuming that they'll never be in any such vulnerable position themselves...

Ask them, perhaps, if they'd appreciate a helping hand from the Coast Guard to save them from drowning if their yacht foundered or a rescue by policeman saving them from being mugged. Some dramatic example of socialism in action in some area that they can see might potentially happen to them.

Corporations aren't people because if they were, then they would be charged with murder which they haven't been even though their actions murdered dozens of workers after a "superfund site full of toxic metals and chemicals. The list was long even in the early days after the spill: arsenic, beryllium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury, nickel, zinc, cadmium, selenium, thallium, antimony, silver and vanadium oxide. It would grow longer."

Workers weren’t warned of the dangers, though. In fact, they were told the coal ash was perfectly safe.

They ate atop it with only bottled water to clean themselves. Their only decontamination unit at the end of the day was a bucket of water and a brush for their boots. When they asked for dust masks, they were denied, and when they complained of health problems, they were mocked.

Now, more than 50 sickened workers and workers’ survivors are suing Jacobs Engineering, the $12 billion-a-year California company that handled the cleanup for TVA, in federal court. The case is set for trial in 2018.

This should be a no brainer that this company deliberately lied to these workers and they should pay for their medical treatment. It should be. It's not.

Then there is this:
The rescue workers at ground zero were told by Christine Whitman, Bush's head of the EPA that the toxic air that they were breathing was safe. So they took her word for it and continued breathing the toxic air. When they started getting sick and then dying, they asked congress to set up a fund for them so they could get medical treatment because they were dying from the toxic air. Congress told them no. These were the "heroes" of the 9/11 terrorists attacks and they worked round the clock for weeks looking for their coworkers. Or some sign of them.
Congress finally set up the funding for them, but not until many of them had already died from respiratory disorders and other illnesses.
They were treated the same way that congress treats the veterans of their illegal "corporate special interests' wars.

This is another issue that should have had people in the streets for. They weren't.
Our leaders must be laughing at how they have gotten away with all the things they do to us without barely any objections from us. But when a small group of Americans do want to tell them that this is unacceptable, our government sends their goon squad to break it up while the majority of us cheer them on. Or when people protest against the cops that continue to murder us because "they were in fear for their lives". There is something very wrong with this.

Polluting industries do this sort of thing continually, knowing full well that each instance is sickening and killing workers, consumers, breathers, drinkers of water, eaters of food, the ecology. Much of the cost-cutting-for-them hazard is avoidable/reducible, but it adds to profits and they know that they routinely get away with murder and have the protection of complicit government officials and agencies with much of the established evidence destroyed/officially replaced by industry 'science' (also performed by once-protective agencies)/removed from easy access, so, no worries there.

I don't dream of more things, just more opportunities. I try to find joy in my simple activities. And I dream of everybody having the chance to have a good life.

If I must destroy the paradise on earth that the rich have in order to give us all a good life, I would make that choice without hesitation.

For some reason I keep remembering "Escape From L.A." Horrible movie, but has one of the best endings ever. At least from my independent, live my own life, make friends with neighbors and pull together perspective...

The problems are glaringly obvious, the solutions are simple.

But yet, people still won't see it. They refuse to see it.

Flag protests, taking a knee, bathrooms, War on Christmas. It is so easy to manipulate people.

The world is dying due to greed. Pure and simple. People willingly obey a system that will kill them. In fact, this system demands that they die. And yet they are just peachy with it.

I have no hope people will actually revolt. They might revolt against whatever they are ordered to do, but will never go towards the actual power structures. Those in the towers will watch Rome burn, laughing as people burn cars over soccer games and frivolous garbage.

The problems are obvious, but people willingly gouge out their own eyes.

Oh the Billionaire Parasite class is both a symbol, symptom and in many cases, cause for the inequality. As symbols they were held up as the position to aspire to, worshiped, and made popular by TV shows like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"

Symptom as you stated, they are popping up or have grown richer under the rampant Capitalism.

Cause for it as they do get greedy and acquire more wealth, as well, as the inspiration for others to try and become rich no matter where they can get that wealth from.

I say it is time to demonize the wealthy as much as they have demonized the poor, and people should learn to accept that they, and others all need to have enough to be comfortable and live like a human being, not some piggy greedy parasite that due to their excess, forces others to live like shit, and go without and not have a comfortable or decent life.
