OT - 5-19-16: Deceit and Distraction

open thread.jpg

So....the Democratic Party must be planning on rigging the election, either by cheating or smearing Trump (can they?) because they're well on their way to nominating the less popular, more hated candidate who does significantly worse head to head with Trump.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/general_electi...

oh look...Bernie beats Trump by a lot. Not important!

Here's something fascinating that some of you might have seen.

"In shock poll, Sanders leads Trump in Georgia"

http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/presidential-campaign/280345-in-sh...

See, we don't need to win Georgia because all "we" need is 270 electoral votes and if they can be "won" (or stolen) then who cares how we'll do nationwide? Oh, yeah....Bernie is a bum because all he cares about is himself and he doesn't fundraise for downticket Dems. Although Hillary's fundraising seems to be a scam that directs the money back to her. And so what if Bernie would do better everywhere and help downticket Dems with his coattails? He isn't fundraising enough! Another weirdness, right? Those Hillary people have so much focus on money, cash, fundraising, as if that is the objective.

As I was saying, Georgia...

"A Democratic friend called to make sure I saw the great news that likely Democratic Hillary Clinton had pulled to within 4 percentage points of presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in Georgia, according to a poll from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. My friend was right. That poll did show Trump with 45 percent and Clinton with 41 percent. It is good news that Clinton could be poised to make a bid to win Georgia's electoral votes.

And then, looking deeper at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll, I saw something even more interesting — indeed fascinating and shocking. The poll found Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) defeating Trump outright, with Sanders getting 47 percent and Trump lagging behind with only 42 percent!"

Again we see the Clinton people looking at Hillary and completely dismissing Bernie. Because, as we know, they just don't want him. Elsewhere I speculated that the only way the superdelegates won't vote for Hillary is if she has an "Uncle Don" moment. That Uncle Don thing never happened but you know what I mean. Something worse than Romney's "47%" comment. Like maybe she'll be caught calling Jim Clyburn something she ought not to. That would be swell because we'd see how long it would take Biden to jump in and get those superdelegates to back him.

This is why I want to "drop out". I don't care so much about the "turn on" part but dropping out sounds good.

Moving on, when I was a young fellow there was a big controversy in my hometown. The city council had decided they would have a municipal swimming pool built. The question was where to put it. My town is divided into four wards, cleverly numbered by how rich the people are who live in them. The 1st Ward is where all the richest people live. The 4th Ward was, at the time (maybe still) the black part of town. I remember reading Malcolm X's autobiography where, among other things, he said if you're new in town and want to know where the black folks live, get the telephone book and find Lincoln School. Bingo.

So where to put that swimming pool? The rich bigots wanted it near them except that would mean Negroes would come into the 1st Ward so that was no good. And they certainly didn't want it in the 4th Ward because they didn't want their children to have to go "there". I was a kid so it seemed wildly insane. I thought "just build it and whoever wants to can use it when they want". But it was the most important thing ever! People had opinions!

This mentality exists all the time. The transgender bathroom issue is one of those things. It's super important! and we have to get worked up about it! Except we don't. It's stupid. It's a distraction. It's a squirrel! Look! An issue! Meanwhile we're getting our pockets looted, we're bombing the #$^%& out of countries that have dared to exist in the wrong location. But if we're preoccupied with something else...I mean, I don't think (when you get down to it) even the conservatives care much about the issue. It's just something to get worked up over. The problem, if it even is a problem, could be solved in about 10 minutes if people weren't all thrilled about important issues!

As Mao Tse-Tung once said "feh!"

I've got a few of these CDs from an English label, Charly, called "Club Soul". They spotlight a nightclub that long ago played Northern Soul so the liner notes are all about each club and talk about the kids who went there. They're pretty entertaining. The songs on each CD are supposedly what was played in the clubs but I think it's just an excuse to relive the old days (60s and early 70s) while using the clubs as a framework. My darling wife, shaz, and I like a bunch of music in common and also a lot of music not in common. This stuff works for both of us. Oh yeah, that's why I wanted to talk about this! See, nobody is going to be like you, to think like you, to agree with you on everything. If you like, you can find something wrong with everybody and you can push them away. On the other hand, you can find something to like about everybody...or almost everybody...and sometimes make the mistake of being friendly with the weasel down the street who'll screw you out of refinance fees.

Well, with this Northern Soul thing, shaz and I both think it's great so here's some of it.

Betty Everett had a big hit with "It's in His Kiss". Here she does "I've Got a Claim on You".

Don Covay, "See About Me"

Alvin Robinson, "Let the Good Times Roll"

Jeanette "Baby" Washington, "Let Love Go By"

and the classic Ike and Tina, "A Fool in Love"

lastly, enjoy what you can, while you can. RIP jbou.

Its meant to inspire all those feel good emotions but FWIW, I see stuff like this as bourgeois/privileged class bs. Its a 'be good to yourself and enjoy all that life has to offer' meme. But isn't one of the main reasons Bernie is attracting so many young and disenfranchised folks because many of them are not so lucky as to in a position to enjoy all that delicious food and those carefree walks on the beach, cause after working 2 jobs to pay the rent and doctor bills and student loans and hassling with the system that's got them by the balls, its really not an option.

Thanks for the link, riverlover.

At 2:37 a.m., shortly after entering Egyptian air space, the plane made a 90-degree turn to the left and then a 360-degree turn to the right, plunging to 9,000 feet from 37,000 feet and disappearing from radar, the Greek defense minister, Panos Kammenos, said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

A 360 degree turn? Sounds pretty weird to me. Makes me think hijack. Wonder if that 360 is misinformation that so often happens in early reports.

Yes. 24 hours at least.

Capt. Sully Sullenberger is the Aviation and Safety expert on CBS. Good to see he got a nice gig. Smile He said the 90 and then 360 could indicate the pilot lost control of the plane. You can read a lot into "lost control." Could be anything. He was sure to preface his remarks with "If true,..." re the reporting.

they are particularly vulnerable to Fringe events. Here is one that ran off the runway and caught fire. Here is one that stalled out and landed on a road. Here is one that bounced and crashed into a fence. Just in the last couple days. I am thinking maybe the air, it doesn't want the planes in it anymore.

We need some fringe events. I mean, of course I feel sympathy for any passengers, I don't mean to belittle that. I hate flying, it requires much Xanax to get me through the ordeal. It's unnatural. (yeah, I probably should have been born pre-1800).

BUT, I still keep hoping another dimension will intrude into ours or aliens will show up or something... We need mystery again to wake people up to the wonder of the world, and we need help. Unfortunately, I fear no outside help is going to materialize.

I keep asking Kali or Sekhmet to show up and destroy the destroyers, but they never do. The corporations, Cheney, Clintons, The Heartland Institute... they all just keep chugging along, getting new organs, and refusing to die.

spreading them over the intertubes is pretty irresponsible sometimes. I am not saying that many people who do this, are all irresponsible, but rather just just expressing themselves innocently. But there are those other people, who don't do this that innocently and you want to make sure that you are not among the ones in the latter group. Nightmare visions on the intertubes can be the catalyst for hysterical real life outbreaks of insanity. So, I am for "sanity" and keep it "low key".

Indeed it is distort and distract. It is the way of the magician...keep 'em looking here while manipulating there.
The people need some sort of honest media. You can peek at the truth here and there, but you've got to look for it. I use to think it was evils of Faux Fraudcasting, but they are all into the distortion...even so called public broadcasting.

This AM on NPR over and over, Sanders campaign violent...NV democrats suing Sanders for fomenting violence. Then who do they interview about the corruption of the party? Claire McCaskill. Don't you know she took up for Bernie by waving the hammer and sickle.

Too much. They think they have us because...TRUMP! Ha, they lost me for good. I'm done with 'em.

I don't know what comes next, but the thought that Bernie will line up behind Hellery makes me ill. I mail in donations. I usually include a note. With my last $27 I suggested that an endorsement of $hillary is a rejection of all the values and issues on which his campaign is based. Just as a VP Warren would be a terrible sell out as well.

As I've said to my friends, "Why worry about the election when climate change dooms the species?"

So on that cheery note, I'll close and say I hope you all have a good day!

We may be living in interesting times, but they are sounding very much like a living hell for the future for so many people. On one hand, we have the Democratic party destroying what little integrity that was left in our elections. And on the other hand, no one who is in power seems to give a shit about climate change. I was truly depressed until I peeked over at the other place and then I became pissed as hell. Dash 1

the first thing I ask myself if it's a news item or an item to distract from the real news. I have seldom felt so distracted by issues that I consider "issues that come with the territory", but ones that are used to deceive, distract or incite your feelings for all the wrong reasons. Can't stand it anymore. People kill each other and start wars and destroy the planet for all the lies they invent to keep their power over others.

horseshit is still happening.

A police officer in McKinney, Texas, who was recorded throwing a black girl to the ground at a pool party has resigned.

Video showed the cop—who has been identified as Eric Casebolt—forcefully throwing the girl onto the ground, and aiming his gun at several unarmed black teens surrounding him.

Or:

More than 60 campers from Northeast Philadelphia were turned away from a private swim club and left to wonder if their race was the reason.

"I heard this lady, she was like, 'Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?' She's like, 'I'm scared they might do something to my child,'" said camper Dymire Baylor.

The Creative Steps Day Camp paid more than $1900 to The Valley Swim Club. The Valley Swim Club is a private club that advertises open membership. But the campers' first visit to the pool suggested otherwise.

"When the minority children got in the pool all of the Caucasian children immediately exited the pool," Horace Gibson, parent of a day camp child, wrote in an email. "The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately."

"They just kicked us out," said camper Simer Burwell.

"There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement.

It's not "stupid," it's not "a distraction," it's not "a squirrel," when it's happening to you.

And the people of the Hairball, there in their tiny, sad, fearful little pea-brains, they very much do really care, about who goes into which bathrooms. I know. I've been there.

How can we win and finally start reversing what is happening to our country?

We can't, so lets drop the fuck out. I'm tired of supporting a bunch of losers in the Democratic Party, and the laws of the land do not allow me to beat up the Republicans so I am left with no options. (That was the summation of FSC's message according to Dana Bash and Gloria Borger, CNN.)

Wolf and his panel had a heyday discussing this interview earlier today (1:00 CST).

FSC also put the onus on Bernie to 'unify' the Party. Elaborated on all that she did to help PBO win--she went to Unity, New Hampshire, campaigned with/for him, etc.

According to FSC, 'What unites us together is Donald Trump.'

Same ole, same ole--no surprise here.

She then pointed to the fact that Bernie recently said that he intends to do everything he can, to defeat Trump.

Then she went on a tirade against Trump, slinging every invective that she could think of, it seems.

Haven't found the video of this interview, but here's a Tweet addressing whether or not FSC would consider Bernie as a running mate.

Thanks for today's OT, Shah. Really enjoy your stream-of-consciousness style--a righteous rant!
