'Tis the Feast of St. Wenceslaus, but I'm not Czech, so meh. I mean, how much of a saint can you really be if you don't merit a California place name? Off the top of my head, we got Andy twice, Izzy, Isabel. Pedro, Diego, Juan, two of the Louis, Paula, Barbara, Francisco, Anselmo, Carlos, Bernard, Ana, Monica. Hell, Santa Ana even has a freeway named after her. So, off to the web we go.
How many cities/towns in California start with "San" or "Santa"? | Yahoo Answers says:
1. San Anselmo http://www.townofsananselmo.org

Plus the city & island of Santa Catalina, but they skipped San Andreas, the fault and the town in the sierras, San Ysidro, Santa Ysabel, San Lorenzo, and the second, third, and fourth San Joaquins (county, river, and valley). And, SF is both city and county, too, also, as are San Berdoo, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and San Louis Obispo. And then, does Rancho Santa Margarita count, or South San Francisco? Finally, searching for "San" and "Santa" skips the obvious wine country town of Saint Helena. Huge numbers of streets and schools named after Junipero Serra are now retroactively named after a saint. (patron saint of colonial imperialists?)Then there's Santa Claus lane, I mean, we've even got south saint so and so BUT no Wenceslaus. Sorry, dude.
Speaking of which, the future site of San Diego was "discovered", much to the dismay of the locals, by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo of Portugal on this day in 1542.
Your basic "song with Monday" in the title or lyrics for today.

Republicans and Democrats are united on one thing
too much money in politics
A fundamental change in the global economy
Needs more attention
Russia now working with Iraq
Forget Syria
Israeli media goes there
It's pretty disgusting
I won't be writing "Morning Greens OT" tomorrow
I left a message to that effect earlier this week. Not sure is "Contact Us" got the message.
I'm going to the Vancouver Film Festival.
And I want to spend less time online from now on.
cheers,
Marilyn
To thine own self be true.
I have been spending less time
online and I feel a lot saner. 'The world as we find it' seems to be going into overdrive and the outrage and divisions online just takes me to a place I see no point in going to as it just keeps the insanity raging.. I will miss your Morning Greens but I sure understand spending less time online. I've been a political junkie for a decade or more and it does nothing to alter or improve anything. I am also in a position where I need to spend most of my time on working at basic survival, making a living, in this mad world. So off I go to hustle and toil among the mad dogs of business who will eat us if we don't learn how to play their game. The wolf's are knocking at our door and we need a new door that works.
I feel I can do more in my local community where it seems like ordinary people are taking on and pushing back from outside the political realm. Stop Demolishing Portland activists saved two giant Sequoia trees from being taken out by the developers last week. They powers that be are cutting down trees in our local park Mt.Tabor and emptying and decommissioning the 3 reservoirs it contains. Meanwhile Nestle's is threatening our water and our corrupt elected Democratic officials, say this is inevitable, and endless growth is necessary. I need a break from the endless useless outrage from all sides online and concentrate on keeping my head above water in the real viscous dog eat dog world that I find I must live in.
and if shaharazade should pass on Thursday's OT....
be prepared for a Merseybeat heavy OT from yours truly. I might even throw in a little London R&B or maybe some sounds from the provinces...
Obama still proud of Libya
Does this sound familiar?
Makes me think of Putin's remark
some time in the past year about the US
"bringing democracy" to Iraq. "Who
needs democracy like that?" he asked.

Taliban seize provincial capital in Afghanistan
The forever war
You know what? I think this happened during the lunar eclipse.
And let's not forget.
