Snow just a couple of weeks ago, and now we're basking in 70's. Spring passed us by.
And we need rain....

So some rain from last year:

Here's one for RiverLover: The Minnehaha, wending her way to the Mississippi:

Fred's complaining about the lack of paper bags to jump into, so off to the grocery store it is.

As I'm cruising down the byways I often see a fantastic scene out of the corner of my eye and I then have to turn around and go back to capture what I saw.

I was exploring the Sierra one day and passed this path that wonders up between some oak trees.

IMG_2048.JPG

Driving home from a weekend camping trip somewhere I can't remember, I passed this little stream coming down the side of the hill.

IMG_2071.JPG

Spent a day at my favorite beach with my friends and once the fog rolled in we left. I had driven past this trail for 6 years and never gave it a second look. Except that day and after I drove by I saw this in my side mirror.

Often times the area I'm driving through is very bland, but even then there is a way to find the beauty.

Love your imagination for your photos. I take the first one was from cooking? Second looking out your window?

Thanks for hosting tonight.

On second thought, the flax was steaming because of the moisture and heat, right? Cooking? ' Doh!

Did you have the flu or maybe had eaten some romaine lettuce? People have died from eating lettuce grown in Arizona for dawg's sake! There has been a weekly recall on dawg food and treats.

Classical music can be so transcending. Thank you for sharing. I am reminded of an aria that can still bring tears to my eyes: Rusalka by Dvorak. Sung by the immortal Lucia Popp.

Are you canoeing as a beginner or have you done that for awhile? I want to get a paddle board and coast down some of the rivers here. I watched a family doing this and it looked like so much fun.

@Socialprogressive

The bee is so vibrant. Just incredible photos of them. How much do you know about bees? When I was looking at the pussy willow tree the bees there collected piles of pollen on their sides. Not sure if they are designed to do that or if that's just where it collects. I could see their arms putting it there.

Bees collect pollen in pollen sacks and then they take it back to their hives where they make honey. How incredible is this?

The beauty of North Carolina is sublime. My travels through Western NC are among my most memorable ones. They were experienced on my way across the country after I left Kauai. It's abundant lushness was immediately reflective of the place I had left. The other side of the state was almost equally as satisfying to me. I'm glad you took the opportunity to make the trip. It's those experiences that nourish us. Thank you for your photo.

Many of the migrating birds have returned; I saw my first-of-year oriole the other day, but didn't get a photo of him. I put orange halves out though, as we usually have a pair nesting here.
I heard about an osprey nest on a cell tower close to my work, so I had to go check it out. They've been there several years apparently; the cell company keeps taking the nest down but they just keep coming back and rebuilding it. I say leave them be! Such handsome birds.

This is my favorite photo from this week: first-of-year yellow warbler. I got stupidly lucky with this one--it was the only photo I got of him.

And a few others I didn't have photos of yet:
Swainson's thrush

Cooper's hawk

horned grebe

We have lots of grackles and red-winged blackbirds around now; a few red-winged blackbirds even come to the bird feeders. Hubby and I built a new bird feeding station today in the backyard (I'll share a photo when it's completely done), and one of the red-winged blackbirds kept yelling at us because we were disrupting his eating!

For Riverlover, here's a photo of when the river I used to live by flooded several years ago:

Cheers all; gotta be up early for work tomorrow.

forward to Friday Photography OTs again. Want to thank all of our wonderful C99P photographers for so graciously sharing their excellent work with us!

Had something to post, but I'm having a difficult time trying to do it--I think due to scripts--so I'll post it next week. (Be glad when I can dump this laptop!)

For now, if I can get it to upload, I'll post a photo of a beautiful and peaceful-looking green space from my old school in Mexico--in memory of 'RL.' I'm really sorry to hear about her passing, and hope that her little terrier (Cairn ?) has/will find a good home.

to the community of friends you talk to online, separates us from each other and reality. I dream of another 'internet' structure, where anonymity wouldn't be necessary to be protected from abuse by the powers to be and the community of non-friends.

I was tempted to get back into facebook, but then I left it outside of my life again. To me it's like working 'inside' the system (ie accepting to use the platform, which abuses us, to fight against it) or 'outside' the system. Similarly to the political fights from outside or from the inside. Just me and my two cents.

Riley looks more like a Lakeland or an Airedale Terrier, than a Cairn. Smile (I must have misremembered.) At any rate, hope a family member took Riley, or has placed him/her in a good home.

Agree with Janis' sentiments. Also, I bet RL would have appreciated you posting Riley's photo (here). Pleasantry

My first memory of 'RL' was when she dropped by EB the same day that she'd had to have another dog euthanized--a couple years ago, IIRC.

She will be missed.

@Unabashed Liberal hi there, nice to see ya. Here is Molly in a canoe on the Russian River.

rennieontheriver.jpg
Late '70s, West of Monte Rio

That's my dad in the rowboat, and my cousin and his wife in the canoe, and Molly. Different spelling of names but she was great too! Mollies are great. I'm looking forward to your retirement posts, I think? lol

My cousin turned himself in to a pretty good lawyer, and so Gray Davis appointed him to be a judge. He knows his CEQA stuff, so good luck loggers! Just kidding, but not really. Whatever he decides is going to be the right decision per the law, that's what good judges do, in my view.
Disputed Gualala logging plan earns second approval from state

About 17 percent of the intended logging was completed before Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Rene Chouteau suspended the work in September 2016 so he could consider a legal challenge filed by Friends of the Gualala River, Forests Unlimited and other nonprofit organizations.

In early 2017, Chouteau ruled the plan was deficient in analyzing impacts of past and pending plans to cut timber in the area, and sent it back to Cal Fire for revisions needed to bring it into compliance.

The revised plan includes additional information about past and future logging foreseen by both GRT and other timber operators. It also excludes two previously proposed harvest sites on a portion of riverfront subject to special treatment because of its designation as a state wild and scenic river, according to Cal Fire. The overall harvest area has declined from 402 acres to 342 acres.

Let's just "decline the harvest area" to zero why not. That's what I'd do. heh

Very much appreciate your kind words. And thanks for posting the photo of 'your' Molly--she was a cutie. We've had a doggie Mollie, as well, our Miniature Schnauzer who lived to ripe old age of 16, just a bit short of the record of 17-1/2 years for our furbabies. (BTW, you have a lot of very interesting somewhat older/vintage photos which I always enjoy seeing.)

And 'thanks' for putting your transcription skills to such good use--I know exactly what Laura meant (about Alaskans). Perhaps it's because of the adverse, if not very dangerous weather elements (at times), but folks in Alaska are generally very warm, helpful, and non-discriminatory. After all, what kind of person would stop and ask someone which political Party they belong it, before deciding to help them, if they found them stranded on the side of the road at -65, or colder. That's one of many reasons that we absolutely loved living there.

I intend to capitalize on all the hullabaloo about RMDL Ronny Jackson's failed nomination to try to hold lawmakers accountable for receiving excellent single-payer-type healthcare through the OAP--The Office of Attending Physician, which makes healthcare available to the 535 members of Congress and SCOTUS. (Considering it's similar to Jackson's old office in the White House Medical Unit.)

Especially, since the care is practically free--the cost is only $600 plus change per annum. No deductibles. No co-pays. No cost sharing--period. Whew!

Heck, I'm even considering directly confronting lawmakers and the Administration on Twitter--for what good it would do!

Wink

Enjoy the rest of your weekend . . .

Mollie
