Friday Photography - Abstractions
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 10/05/2018 - 5:09pm
Evening everyone. The late afternoons and evenings in Southern Florida have become utterly delightful, with temperatures that have dropped and breezes that blow soft and dry. I’ve been hearing (from what I can identify online) what sounds like a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. Its loud squawking sounds are an interesting contrast to the soft and refreshing breezes at night. In a week I’ll be back home where Spring will be well and truly sprung.
I’m off very soon to a farewell dinner with family and will check back in late tonight. Be well and enjoy.

Thank you Janis for Friday Photos...
Good to see you back again. Which side of the planet are you on now? Here are more pictures from Pogonip hikes...

Hi magiamma
Bark is so satisfyingly textural. Thank you.
For two more days I'm in the same hemisphere as you ; ).
Nice abstractions, Janis.
And thanks for Friday Photos tonight.
Some shots from earlier in the year when I was playing around with a camera converted for infrared photography.
I woke up this morning determined to drink less, eat right, and exercise.
But that was four hours ago when I was younger and full of hope.
omg those are totaly cooel...
Evenin'Social. I really like the effect. Almost looks like snow or frost except for the dark sky. Mysterious and wonderful. Thank you.

Thank you, Magiamma.
Here's a link to some infrared photos that are a lot better and more creative than mine.

Hi Social
Thank you for your infrared images. They are truly other-worldly.
Here are some more
Thank you, Janis.
Some really nice infrared photos at the link you included. If you liked those you might want to look at some of the creative work here. https://kolarivision.com/gallery/

Thanks for the link Social.
The images I enjoyed most were the B&W ones and those with subtle colours like yours.
Thanks for hosting Janis

Me... I'm just thinking of Spring.

Hi Bollox
I love how you transform something so alive into something so imbecilic.
Spring is thinking of you too, and patiently waiting its return.
Evening Janis et all
Both bushes got wiped out by the stream overflowing after we finally got some rain. And boy did we get some rain. The guys at the cemetery spent the week creating ditches for a sprinkling system and many of them got filled in with sludge that came down the stream. Some storm.
Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.
Oh snoopy
I love the singular heart centers in both the images.
Sorry about the bad timing for the ditch digging, but I suppose it will be helpful for next summer's draught.
I put the hydrangea in the grass just for fun and for
tonight's photos. Not much else to capture this week. I love the single flower in the bush and thought about cropping it but it was boring on its own. We got more rain the last two days then we've gotten in 6 months. Lots of flooding and unfortunately some serious wrecks with fatalities. Our hundred days of summer were very brutal this year.
When I first saw the butterflies gif there were more amazing nature ones in the link and was stunned to see the ones with the gals.
How long have you been visiting with your mum? Hope you had a great time with her and your family. Did you want me to email you the photo in a larger size?

The hydrangeas were a nice addition.
I've been at my mom's for 3 months. I'd like to print your image 8x10, so whatever size you think is best. I'll PM my email address in case you no longer have it. Thanks snoopy.
Great pix everybody! As always, beautiful works!
Hi all,
Hope you had a great week, and a great weekend. Thanks everyone for all the great posts, always so nice to know one is not alone, and that the bastards are evil and crazy.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are thinning fast, here is an adult male.
This is the back side.
This is an imm. male Rufous Hummingbird
A mushroom I am reasonably certain is of the genus Hygrocybe, maybe species punicea or something similar. Remember the shrooms we see are essentially the fruiting bodies of the fungus that grows in the ground, or tree, etc.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

No comment dystopian,
about those red shrooms ; ). Thanks for the hummingbirds, who I only get to see anymore in photographic images.
Heh! I had the same thoughts about them
Reminds me of what Stormy said about Trump. Yuck and ugh!

We've had a fair number of Monarchs this year
along with some swallowtails

Thank you.
Wow!
Thank you. It's absolutely mesmerising.
For anyone wondering what the second photo is of,
it is of the impression of burnt rice at the bottom of the pot.
lol, I just read through all the comments to find
an answer as to what the second photo is.
The explanation makes me laugh. I wonder how you decided to take that pot's bottom image. Hope it wasn't too painful for you to 'scratch away what was such unimaginable source of your artful skills as a photographer'.
Farewell dinners ... when you sit in the air plane of your travel back ... I remember the somewhat relieved and thoughtful blank in my mind about what was behind me and what would be ahead. It happened several times in my life.
Good morning from my corner of the woods. Good travels.

You're so cute mimi
and you're right about it being difficult to scratch out the image. I would really rather have cut the bottom out and hung it on the wall or used it as a hot plate.
Thanks for your well wishes and understanding.
Thanks for last night's OT, Janis! Sorry
that travel kept me from participating--will catch you Guys next Friday.
Hope you enjoy your last day(s) with Family. Safe travels back home.
Thank all of you Guys for sharing your beautiful photos with us. Started shopping for a new smartphone (for an additional line) over the weekend. May tap you Guys' knowledge bank a bit, regarding cameras--cell phone variety, that is.
Got to visit a animal shelter yesterday. It was all we could do not to come away with a pup we saw. (Had to remind Mr M that we need to hold off a couple more months, due to several circumstances.)
Take care.
