Friday Night Photos

Happy Friday photos everyone.
Hope everyone is staying cool. It's 100+ in my area of the county today.

This is a juvenile Red-shouldered hawk that made a brief stop on the fence in my backyard early one morning. The sky was a flat gray when I took this shot so I added the clouds to help perk up the sky.

are hunting around. like the sky police

The crows around here are real vocal when the hawks are around too. A lot of the smaller birds are as vocal as well.

I'm still getting a few Hooded Orioles at my humming bird feeders. Normally by this time of year they have headed back south to Mexico.

After your project to keep insanity at bay, where do you plan to travel with your travel trailer?

A forest of new growth from the roots. Man I’d love to dig it up and make it part of my bonsai collection. It’s a little fuzzy because of I can’t adjust the size with email.

I’m trying to grow a pine tree from a pine corn. It’s that what they’re called? Brains fuzzy too..

not sure the proper name of pine cone seedlings either
whenever I see a really cool tree dropping off cones
bring them home and sow them about the place

maybe not germinate until I've floated away

not pine corn. Close but no cigar. I found more of the roots growing trees. They might be weeping willows or another type growing from the many seeds that fall off others.

I tried growing this one but I can’t tell yet if it is. 2 other trees have the same type of leaves. It’s my favorite one at the burying ground and it’s over 100 years old.

@snoopydawg Beautiful photo SD. The pine seeds are called pine nuts. Depending what type it is, many will not germinate unless and until a fire goes over. Like Lodgepole Pine. Several others require fire to sprout as well. I think Eucaplyptus might require as well. Sometimes you can fool the seed by scoring it with a knife. I am fairly certain the plant growing in the pic is not whatsoever related to the tree root. The plant looks very much like Virginia Creeper. Maybe something similar to that. Great pic anyway!

Gizmo at Door.jpg

My little friend died on Sunday. It was shocking and sudden. He was 10 years old. Earlier in the week, he was his chipper little self. He liked to run laps around my desk while I worked on the computer and curl up between my legs while we watched TV at night. We were a bit of an odd couple -- me 6' 5" and 280 pounds, him 6.5" and 5 pounds. Despite his small size, he was a fierce protector and would place himself in front of me if he perceived danger.

Last Friday night, something was off. He had a 'hangdog' look after eating dinner and went to bed early. Saturday, he started throwing up and wouldn't eat. He died at the vet's on Sunday.

I'll miss the little guy.

I would love to have a dog, but am not allowed to have one in my sisters house and garden. I still miss my dog Sasha. I had to give her away into a good home, when I needed to sell my little row house in Greenbelt. The lady who took her in first sent me a picture of her to Christmas, but the ended too. Now I don't know, if she is still alive. I doubt it.
It all seems like decades ago.

Great composition SP! Thanks for properly explaining the image, I really appreciate knowing if an image is an original unadulterated one, or a manipulated constructed composition. For many I realize it is not important, and from an artistic standpoint that is in the eye of the beholder so perhaps not of import to those for which that is all that matters. As one with plenty of darkroom time and published scientific record images, I like to know the whole truth about the composition.

There is a word in Japanese that means 'pleasingly out of focus background'. Can't think of it at the moment... but they are my favorite actually. It is highly strived for and revered there.

Anyway, fantastic image...

sorry I was too busy to get by last night
