Folks, We Need to Come Together for One of Our Own
In case you haven't heard, there has been a large and dangerous wildfire in Northern California that started yesterday morning. From what I've read and seen the town of Paradise has been devastated.

One of our dear friends and author, hecate, lives in that general area with his beloved pets. Folks, if you pray to any deity, please do. Let us bring our collective consciousness together for his sake. Cross your fingers and your toes if you think that may help. If nothing else please keep him in your thoughts.
I found out about this last night on the evening news and immediately thought about him. The only way I have to contact him is by email and I did that last night but haven't heard from him yet. Another member here who is close to him has done the same.
I wasn't really sure if I should bring this up to the membership but I thought you all should know.
Hecate, if you log in and I am wrong about this or you are upset I apologize and you have every right to ream me for it, but I am worried for you, my friend. Please check in with us if you can.

The fire is now 70K acres
Paridise is burned and towns near have evacuation orders. High winds yesterday. Smoke here some ~250+ miles away.

Today seems better. These wildfires have been putting massive amounts of carcinogens in the air. The consequences to people's health will show up soon.

How I wish there was something I could do. Keeping hecate in my thoughts and sending love and best wishes, but that does not feel at all adequate. I’d offer my house as a place for them to stay, even though I’m in Tucson.
CA wildfires are terrifying and devastating. They are the #1 reason we left San Diego and returned to hot sunny Tucson. I knew hecate was in northern Cali but didn’t know exactly where. I read about the paradise fire yesterday. Hecate please be ok.

now I watch Paradise, California ‘destroyed’ by out-of-control Camp Fire
This could mean, hecate has lost everything he had. Hopefully he could flee the flames. I hope he can give a sign of life. If so, tell him we will try to jump in and help. Now I feel regret that I said something about not 'getting' sometimes what he wrote. I do get wildfires and devastation. Just let him know.

I've been getting tons of pics from one of my mothers in law (yeah, I have two, That's what you get when you marry Mormons.
lol) from paradise.
I had mentioned to her that the wife and I were looking at relocating to the pacific nw after she completes her BSN and told her that Paradise area was on our short list a couple months ago.
Apperently she has friends and relations that live in that area so she was excited by the prospect as it would afford her another reason to go visit
Personally, I was against moving to California for our next, and forever, home largely due to the cost of living and building a home in California.
We had decided that since we're getting to the point in our lives where the next home will likely be the last, that we would do one of the things we long dreamed of, building a home that was designed for US specifically and not just an "off the rack" or someone else's dream home.
Imagine my shock and dismay to learn that in California just the permits, state and local fees, impact fees, etc can easily top over $100k alone! For one modest single family home.
That's only about $1500 less than the total cost of my current, 2000 sqft home that's only 10 years old.
No wonder the housing and rental rates are so insane in Cali!
They want to fix homelessness and sky high rental rates they need to get that under control first...
But I digress, Hecate I hope you're doing well, that your furry companions are with you and that your home was spared.
I read a heartbreaking story of 5 vehicles (and their occupants) getting caught in the fire. Sadly there were no Survivors.
No mention of an arks worth of animals so hopefully this tragedy is not one of our C99P family members.)
Strange how the world works, I consider those that populate this site as extended family.
Actually, something even more than that, as I think I would be more saddened by the loss of some of the wonderful minds here, people I have never met in the real world, then some of those I happen to share DNA with.
