Facing opposition, Amazon reconsiders NY headquarters site, two officials say

Amazon executives have had internal discussions recently to reassess the situation in New York and explore alternatives, said the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly about the company’s perspective.

“The question is whether it’s worth it if the politicians in New York don’t want the project, especially with how people in Virginia and Nashville have been so welcoming,” said one person familiar with the company’s plans.

Hailed as an economic triumph when it was announced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) and Mayor Bill de Blasio (D), the project in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens now faces withering criticism from some politicians and advocacy groups appalled at the prospect of giving giant subsidies to the world’s most valuable company, led by its richest man. (Amazon founder and chief executive Jeffrey P. Bezos also owns The Washington Post.)

No specific plans to abandon New York have been made. And it is possible that Amazon would try to use a threat to withdraw to put pressure on New York officials. But with a meeting of the state’s Public Authorities Control Board and a third City Council hearing expected later this month, Amazon executives may be reaching an inflection point, the people said.

So Bezos is getting pushback? I bet that’s a new experience. Now he’s gonna take his ball and go elsewhere because some people had the nerve to object to his fleecing the taxpayers of New York. A deal he thought was ok when he was getting mega millions (billions?) in tax breaks is now apt to fail because Bezos doesn’t believe in paying his taxes.

“We are excited to build new headquarters in New York City and Northern Virginia,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon. “These two locations will allow us to attract world-class talent that will help us to continue inventing for customers for years to come. The team did a great job selecting these sites, and we look forward to becoming an even bigger part of these communities.”

if the legislature doesn't give in on his other requests because he says that he needs the money to update the NY subway system. My first thought was stop the massive tax give away to Bezos and you'll probably have the money to do that. BTW. The kos kids say that Bezos is a hero. An asshole, but their asshole. Why? Because of the feud between him and Pecker who own the Enquire and Bezos suing them because they released the text messages between Bezos and his mistress. Unf'ckingbelievable. A 'progressive' site thinks that Bezos is a hero and doing gawd's work. Why? Because of the hatred for Trump.
