C99 meetup @ Philadelphia Convention?

I'm running this a second time in case folks missed it over the holiday weekend.

Hey folks, Mark from Queens and I have been discussing a possible C99 meetup at the Philly convention, thinking that a lot of C99ers might be attending.

If you are going to Philly and are interested in a C99 meetup, please use the comment section to discuss when you'll be there and when would be convenient for all of us to meet.

The convention runs from Monday the 25th through the 28th and seeing as a lot of folks may be arriving on the weekend, perhaps Sunday the 24th might be a day for consideration, too.

Heh, by popular demand, feel free to contact me privately if you want to come but don't wish to make such an announcement public.

Should you start compiling a list and posting it somewhere?

yes, i currently have a list compiled in my mind, given that not too many people have responded. i will chat with mark who had some suggestions about places to meet up and i will contact everybody who has answered affirmatively by pm to work out the details of where to meet, date and time.

that some people might answer to Joe's questions just in private messages. So, may be you compile a list behind the curtain ... ?

to offer those interested in meeting up in Philly the option to contact him privately via PM, especially as (don't have the link handy) the CIA recently started an Open Source office to review all social media, chat rooms, blogs etc., for "extremist" content and put out a notice that it was hiring hundreds of *librarians* (especially those with a Masters in Lib. Sci.) to do the work, because ...

today's pacifist disgruntled former D and/or R may turn out to be tomorrow's "streamist".

I, BTW, can't make it to Philly, but best wishes to all c99ers who can.

I respect and understand that some folks will not want to be on record here as confirming their attendance at such an event. After all, we're all pretty much behind these anonymous monikers ostensibly so we can freely speak our minds. But I hope anyone feeling afraid to do so that will reconsider.

We have nothing to hide here. I've never heard anyone remotely suggest violence or anything approaching it. So if there are governmental entities looking at a blog heavily populated by middle-aged and senior citizens as just one of collection of folks in a vast universe of blogs and social media outlets where very many and more and more people speak about politics, including Farcebook, then they're going to be overextending themselves surveilling millions and millions of people concerned about the state of things. However, if for whatever reason some folks wish to privately correspond with Joe that's cool too.

In the end, to me, in the face of creeping fascism, inverted totalitarianism and a corporate coup d'etat, it remains imperative that we be prepared to stand up in public to be counted. You know the bit, "First they came for...." A bully, and that is what these agencies are, stands not a chance when everyday people stand up to injustice, fraud and corruption.

I feel like it's long past time to be bold folks. Look at the situation we find ourselves in: a continuing economic slog at the hands of reckless, greedy and criminal Wall St Economic Terrorists who have not been prosecuted, the vast majority of an overworked, underpaid and under pressure 99% churned up in the relentless grinder of unbridled capitalism, facing the prospect of more of the same in a blatantly corrupt electoral process foisting upon us the two most ridiculous, loathed and not trusted candidates ever, with a craven, lapdog media not reflecting back any of these realities back to us.

I know I have some compatriots here. No, strike that, comrades, as the Socialists back in the day called each other. It's vital we stand up.

Apologies for the rant. I'd love to see as many of you as possible.

Let's do this!
