The Berniemobile at Bisbee's Pride Parade

My partner, sphinxmoth, has been the leader of Bisbee for Bernie, Democratic precinct captain and assistant chair in our county, poll watcher, vote-counting watcher and helper, and addressed the County Board of Supervisors, urging them not to certify the Primary vote here in Arizona until some issues were cleared up. No dice; they had a deadline. I have helped her however and whenever I could, around the margins of my job. This campaign is certainly not over, for either of us.

Tonight was the annual Bisbee Pride Parade...a pretty big deal in a small, isolated town with a large LGBT population. She decided to enter the Berniemobile in the parade. First we had to decorate it. Fortunately, her car has a large, shiny dome, and a smiling face. We just needed to give it some untamed white hair, and some glasses, to make it complete. Sphinxmoth worked on the hair, and also made a blue Bernie bird (with a rainbow belly) for me to carry, flying around the car, while she drove. My limited contribution was the glasses.

The parade was well attended, and participation was high. There were groups from far-away Tucson. Locally, even several of the churches participated...it's a very accepting town.

PrideParade1.jpg

Our own group started out rather small. Our one successful Bernie delegate, another that ran (as sphinxmoth did) but was not chosen. Tucson makes up a much larger percentage of our district, and is sending the majority of the delegates. Shinxmoth's grand-daughter, and myself, made up the rest of our little group.

Not for long. Soon, we were joined by a bystander who liked Bernie's message...wearing black here:

Then we picked up another, "Zoe Cartoons", who, needless to say, was not a big fan of Trump.

PrideParade4.jpg

Our grand-daughter made it to the first Bernie rally in Phoenix...and she loves being in a parade.

PrideParade5.jpg

A little farther, we passed the iconic "Peace Wall" mural, painted by local artist Rose Johnson.

PrideParade6.jpg

...and soon picked up more cheering followers...everyone from the long skinny (white) banner, back toward the car.

PrideParade7.jpg

By the time we reached Brewery Gulch, we had gathered more, and they were chanting "Bernie, Bernie" with the crowds on the balconies over the street. Kids, parents, families. Lots of people, not ready to give up. People with whom his message has resonated. People who want Peace, decent jobs, acceptance, justice, fairness, democracy.

Our granddaughter is leading them, now. (with the rainbow peace flag.) Into the future.

Also, I thought the street looked so interesting I did a bit of research. Am I right to think Bisbee would be a fun place to explore? It's not far from Las Cruces, so could probably make a day trip out of it. And a Pride Parade in the middle of nowhere is just amazing!!

Mining town (with lots of labor history), but when the mine closed in '74, a lot of hippie/artists moved in, and really changed the flavor of the town. Well worth exploring. There is an underground mine tour, and a big hole in the ground to look at. LOTS of B&Bs, and little, unique hotels, locally owned restaurants, and lots of galleries and antique stores. Events many weekends, probably all summer weekends, and best of all, no McDonalds, Taco Bell, Applebees, or any of that. No WalMart. Two local brewers, and two local coffee roasters. Lots of stairs to climb.

Lots of stairs to climb

I don't do stairs real well and it gets worse as I get older. But just from these pics, it looks like an awesome place to be in general, and also to be a Sanders supporter in. LOVE the car....

Bisbee is a wonderful place to visit. My son-in-law has friends in the city. The art is a wonder to explore and the people are extraordinary, imo.

And many smiling faces, always good to see those. Never been to AZ, flyovers so far. Someday, maybe.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Great photos and your town is very pretty. I spent a summer in Albuquerque, NM many many moons ago. I hope it is not destroyed by fire/climate change. I live in Orlando so your Pride Parade resonated with me. Our Bernie contingent marched in last year's Pride Parade. We were/are loud and proud, and I'm straight. Rec'd!

Looks like a fun parade. All you needed was a banjo marching band! There really were banjo bands.

her car has a naturally smiling face.

Bisbee definitely has the look of a mining town.

I'm glad Bisbee is somewhat removed from the Arizona Heat-Death Vortex, and so no one there is today melting.

to go there tomorrow? When it will be 118 degrees?

That is like you "have" to go to the scaffold, or to the guillotine.

No. No tires, made by the hand of man, could possibly survive such a trip. And neither will you.

You do realize, that when a human being tries to breathe in temperatures of such ludicrous extremes, the lungs start to burn?

I say you "have" to stay home. So you can continue to live. ; 0

would ever want to go to San Diego. Those people should be institutionalized, and you should stay home.

When it is 118.6 degrees, it is too hot to get on a jet. Jets are made of metal. If a human body part touches a jet when it is 118.6 degrees, that body part melts. All your passengers will be sitting there in the seats with stumps where their limbs used to be. It will be a medical emergency, but no doctors will be able to respond, lest they melt, too. It will be terrible. It would get on the news, except the news cameras will melt when they try to film it.

You are not the only person who can fly an airplane. Call and tell them your cat is sick. Let them assign someone who has nothing to live for, to fly the jet, in the temperatures hotter than the sun.

with serial killers, particularly of the naval and bomb-building varieties, is Bircher central, and most of the politicos eventually go to the prison—if they are not taking the bribes, they are groping the wimmins. I am glad, though, to hear there are some decent people, sprinkled here and there. ; )

but it will always be home. My great-great-great grandfather arrived there in 1856...his son in law (my g-g-gf) in 1854, and his grand-daughter (my grandmother) was fathered by a Cupeno Indian...who ancestors had been there much longer. There are bonds to the land there that will never be severed. Sometimes I can barely pull myself away, when I go to visit.

He was born here, his father still lives here, was once Mayor and also preacher. But the son is the fiery one. For years, he had spots on the Sierra Vista radio station, in between the oldies. He called those mindless heathens dumb enough and misguided enough to live in Bisbee, "Bisbonians". I took it on, as a badge of honor. We also have Bisbeeites, Bisbeans, and Bisbeings living here. All flavors welcome.
