Open Thread - 08-22-25 - Galveston

We're in Galveston for a mini-vacation and I slept in this morning. The internet is very dicey. I haven't had much time to think of anything to say today so I'll leave that up to you all. I may be incommunicado for most of the day.
I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem with the site slow downs even though I've tried everything. I hesitate to say anything about it because every time I do it comes back to haunt me. I haven't given up yet so hang in there.

It has been a wet week here. We got about 2" in 30 min and it scoured my gravel road. I pulled it back. I've nicknamed the road Sisyphus Way. Rain washes rock down the hill. Tractor pulls rock back up the hill. Today it was hand work to open all the weeps and drainage ditches.
And after all the rain there's plenty of 5,6 pick up sticks. Also had three medium sized trees fall across the lower loop, but got those cut up and dragged into the woods to rot. At least it has been cool for August. They're calling for 80 F high and 60 F lows next week. A fall preview.
So thanks for all the work on the site and taking time to generate an OT! Y'all have fun for all of us.

Good morning JtC. Have a great mini vacation.
Important first step is turn off all news sources. Nada mucho going on out here, gearing up for my daily news binge (since I'm not on vacation). Trying to limit work in yard to one hour per day, and or possibly add one hour tree work, but it's sometimes hard to stop. Hope to spend a few days cleaning up my 'puter, which I abuse and overload to the extent that I had to go terminal to kill a frozen PID this morning, but that counts as entertainment here.

Still in Amsterdam, staying at a friend’s place, till Wednesday
when I’ll be heading home to Dresden in Germany, on the sleeper train.
It’s been a many-facetted vacation for me this year. We sang in “La Pellegrina,” a Dutch-led classical music workshop, in the Czech Republic back in July — then we were house- and cat-sitting in Leiden for a few days — last weekend we went “glamping” in Zeewolde for 2 nights as part of a “Healing Garden Festival,” a gathering and event promoting spirituality / yoga / meditation practice of various sorts.
