04/15 Open Thread: It's Bessie Smith's Birthday

I really couldn't come up with anything today and the column I was working on instantly turned to shit late yesterday, so I fell back on the calendar. One thing I noted was a boatload of "Holidays", all but the outlandish one of which I'm going to list here. It's a strangely eclectic mix, and I bet everybody will find a favorite, I know I did. A couple or more, in fact.

Titanic Day
is one for the ages.
I actually worked today, sort of, in a socially distant fashion.
In order to have a coherent phone chat with the love of my life tonight (dammit about distance and travel restrictions!), I took a nap, and am now going into the fog with no sleep tonight, other than that nap. The things you do for love.
Good grief, I just want my routine back!
The phone chat was just all that, and if he and I had only one seat in the lifeboat, he would get it.
My tiny town of 800 folks has had confirmation of 2 more COVID-19 cases.
It is here.
I hope everyone stays well.
Take care of one another.
And Bessie Smith rocks.
I will have to be schooled on sizing these these embeds! So sorry if that goofs anything up! So sorry, people!
JtC will hopefully school me on sizing.
It is his site. I am sure he wants to keep it running, "Blog Owner" that he is! Lol!

Good morning otc. Glad for your phone chat, though the
lack of sleep isn't so cool. Sorry to hear about your covid-19 cases, blame it on the CIA and you'll feel better. It would be interesting to to know how many cases there really are, but we'll never know.
One way to resize is in the link below the box that says "More information about text formats", one line of information is this example:

I think the youtube line is what you get with "share" or something, I always just grab the embed code and post it straight up, though there are width and height parameters in the embed code, iirc.
be well and have a good one
edited to remove blockquote of instruction line, line shows up in comment box but not on screen and still same effect, probably square barckets so--

No Bessie Smith Strut this year
In fact the Bessie Smith center in Chattanooga is shut down due to COVID
Here's a view from a couple of years ago...

Kinda explains the cancellation doesn't it?
Well, thanks for the holidays and music.

I feel certain JtC
will read me the Riot Act, and then patiently show me the tech tricks of the trade that he knows, and that I do not know, as if that isn't obvious.

My goodness, as someone who loved visiting Paris in the 1980s,
I can’t believe it’s already been one year since fire gutted Notre Dame.

Good morning lot. Not a date I kept track of, but a sad
one. Glad that I saw it before. Thanks for reading.

Glad I got to see it
Paris got me broken in to disdain for Americans. Since then, I am used to people anywhere, in any country, despising us.
When I agreed with the Parisians, they were taken aback.
That attitude of mine works well with bartenders in Panama, for example.

Not Bessie Smith, but ...
Here's my earworm for today, a charming little rendition of a Juan Luis Guerra tune from 1990.

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.
Good morning Az. That was certainly more than
cheerful enough, nize beach too. I won't fire up my earworm destroyer for that one.

Good morning, el ~~
It's amazing how, here in NM, we can have a 10 inch snow one day, and it melts away the next day. It's what I love about living here. It was a wet, heavy snow, which was great to receive in April. In preparing our garden, this unexpected moisture gives us a boost. We are planting new shrubs and it's easier to dig the holes! Our wheat/barley field (food for the chickens) is now coming up. We are ecstatic!
Hope everyone has a nice hump day!

Glad to have an outside to be in here that's for sure. Yes, we here are still organizing if you can really call it that.
But one has to think seriously where this is all going. What will it look like on the other side. As a computer scientist I play around, a lot, with worst case scenarios, because that is how you make a program, or whatever you want to call it, NOT fail.
So I get that social distancing works. It's working here. Really well. But, again, what is the world going to look like on the other side of this scamdemic. Not saying it isn't real. Just saying it is yet another op for the upward movement of resources. Yet another. So here's my real question. What, if anything beside howling, are we going to do? Because, as we are all held captive in our domiciles, we could be organizing. Whenever have we had such a chance to work for change with so few distractions. Heh. Cause if we don't we lose. So there.
Ja, have a good one. Ja, ser gut.

Good morning magi. I get what you're saying and have
neither solutions nor suggestions except the obvious number 1 of boycotting the Axis of Lesser Evil, and hoping to coalesce around some sort of viable alternative.

Anyone up for some forest bathing?
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgDjVEpEOdQ]
Good fternoon CB. Thanks for dropping by. The nearest
batheable forest isn't near enough nor probably private enough either. I do recall "bathing" and skinny dipping it both the Navarro River and the Big River with a certain fondness that probably derives from age, distance, and forgetting how cold north coast rivers get.

I caught that...
and it sure validates my sentiments. Love the terminology...forest bathing - especially as I walk through the forest daily. They (medcram) also did one on the benefit of sauna. That is on the summer list of our slo-mo construction company...build a wood fired sauna.
Dr John continues to promote Vitamin D...sounds pretty convincing.

Davis suggests blood test to see what level of supplement is best for you.
https://blog.undoctored.com/diy-vitamin-d/
I would like to get one but I ain't about to go to a doctor in current circumstances and don't want to pay the $75 or so to home test. Last time I had blood work I was on the high side but that's been a ways back. I am taking a D (and C) supplement, when I can remember.
Hope you can meander in the forests on occasion too!
