Bernie takes the gloves off and brings down the hammer

Whoa! Did you have any doubt that Bernie is in it to win it? You won't after watching his press conference today on C-Span. Bernie is on fire (literally berning) You have to hear the press conference for yourself. Bernie is trying to dispel the media narrative that has been pushed since the losses in the Acela primaries.

I believe his supporters should also not buy into that defeatist narrative as it kills activism.

So lets fight for every vote to win the nomination for the best candidate our country has produced in generations.

In this speech you can see the fire and determination that has been responsible for keeping his ideas alive for all those lonely years as the only Independent and Democratic Socialist in the congress.

I wouldn't bet against this guy.

All I ask of Bernie is that he fight to the bitter end, and from his speech, it is apparent that he is. When was the last time this country had a candidate for President worthy of the job? He is a leader with a vision that wants to take us to into a future of hope and opportunity. Hillary is an insider reminding us not to forget our place. June 14.

I have been dismayed by MN superdelegates since only three Reps have endorsed Bernie (one of them is mine; he decided to go with the people of his district and endorsed Bernie, just as another one had done, and both of those after Keith Ellison endorsed Bernie from the get-go). Only (ex)Mayor R.T. Rybak has "None" in the endorsed column on the Wikipedia site.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Democratic_Party_superdelegates,_2016
The easiest way to check for your own superdelegates is to do a Ctrl-F, search by the two-letter code for your state, and they'll come up in alphabetical order (along with the two-letter code in the Notes section!)

The MN Dem governor, both of our Dem senators, Reps from other districts, one ex-VP, the DFL (MN Dem party) chair, and assorted names I don't recognize and had to look up are all pledged to Clinton - which happened just prior to or just after the DNC Summer Meeting in Mpls last year where I noticed everyone from DWS down had plagiarized Bernie's speeches, but because the candidates spoke in alphabetical order it seemed like he copied them; if I had not watched every Bernie speech at record-setting venues throughout the summer, I might have had that impression, but I knew they were copying him, not the other way 'round.

There are no words to express just how disgusted I am with MN superdelegates, and the fact that they endorsed Clinton LONG before our caucus. Did they think the people of MN would follow their lead like sheeple and vote for Hillary? I wrote down the list, looked at it, and thought Are they daft?!?

MN is the state where, to everyone's horror, especially MN media and pollsters, an ex wrestler was chosen as governor by young wrestling fans, and likely many of them have not voted since. We even have a town named Debs in honor of Eugene V. Debs (it's in Beltrami County). MN is the state where we have a history of close elections where recounts have had to be done. The earliest one I remember is 1962 gubernatorial race when I was still in high school. The one that got national attention was the Franken-Coleman race, but a couple of years later the gubernatorial race was once again close, but not close enough for an automatic recount and the opposing candidate asked for a recount (he had to pay for it, not the state); the recount came out with the current governor ahead so the opposing candidate called it off. We have super easy registration (including same-day registration with proof of residency), paper ballots and optical scanners and recounts are done by hand in public; anyone can watch. We're used to it, know the recount will be done with all due deliberate haste (which is why stopping the FL recount was such a shock to me). Recently at least one county in another district went to mail-in ballots in the last couple of elections and their "turnout" of votes has increased considerably.

Bernie is absolutely correct in saying the superdelegates need to re-think their positions and follow the leads of the way the people in their states voted. Bernie won MN in the caucus. All/most of the MN superdelegates should be pledged to Bernie. GOOD FOR BERNIE for reminding these clowns that the superdelegates should follow the lead of the residents of their states!!!!!!!

Okay, that excitement out of the way, I'm going to go finish watching the video.

THANK YOU VL Baker for posting the link to this C-SPAN video!!! It is most excellent!

right now. We should be working social media to put pressure on our own superdelegates. I take every opportunity I get, and this video is going up on everyone of their sites that I can find. We need to urge others in our own state and other states to do the same.

If and when Bernie loses, then we can talk about third party runs and conferences. Right now, we have an election to win.

No shit. When Governor Hickenlooper endorsed Hellary, I started having a better view of my Congressional Non-Representative, Doug Lamborn.

Don't get me wrong -- he also embraces everything I oppose, as well! (The American Family Association? Ewww!)

But at least old Dougie Lambaste is honest about what he stands for, which means I know to vote against him right away!

I still have friends galore who still believe in Hillary Clinton as some sort of acceptable compromise vote, where she isn't all that different from Lamborn in reality -- especially in the foreign policy realm!

I just would rather deal with an honest enemy than a back-stabbing "friend", if you get my meaning.....

Are you in Colorado CD 5? I am. I get what you mean, but in this district we Democrats, along with many Republicans, have been working hard to get rid of him. Run very good compromise candidates who couldn't do it. Hillary is better than Lamborn, but that's not saying much, is it? She's also better than Trump, but likewise that's faint praise.

I am an ardent Bernie supporter, but I surely don't want Lamborn or Trump. My anger is directed at the Democrats who have left us with these odious choices. After the convention I plan to re-register as unaffiliated, documentation and letter then sent to all Coloado's super delegates.

I do know. I think that the Dominionists hereabouts have just taken over so many brains that this is the problem we're facing. Those poor benighted souls like Lamborn and keep voting for him. The problem with Colorado Springs/El Paso County/CD5 is that we have an actual rightwing permanent population; these people think that the likes of Lamborn are good for them! [shudder!!]

Indeed. I'm not sure what I will do after the election, but I'm already a non-supporter of the "Democratic" Party of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and the Clintons. Bernie is somewhat to my right on most issues. I'm considering registering Pirate after the General Election is finished (yes, there is a Pirate Party in the U.S., just like in Europe!).

...Hillary has 48 superdelegates lined up in California, with their primary still over a month away.

For those who haven't watched Bernie's vid on C-Span:

Bernie beat Hillary 73% - 27% in the Washington primary; Hillary got 10 superdelegates, Bernie got 0.
Minnesota: 61% - 38% in favor of Bernie; superdelgates: Hillary 12, Bernie 2.
Etc. etc. etc.

Colorado, Maine...hell, Hillary only beat Bernie in Iowa by 3/10 of a percentage point, 49.9% - 49.6%, got 7 supers, Bernie got none.

I hate her so much that I listened to them talk and they talked about the Republican race and I talked back making my points.

I failed.

I saw a Ted Rall video of a talk on his book on Bernie Sanders. He said he has an open offer of a free autographed book if anyone can point out her successes, he will send them an autographed copy of the book for free.

So far, no one has taken him up on it.

I should have asked them to explain why they support Hillary. What are her successes?

Next time I will have to try that. Have you used that strategy?

Over at top I wrote an entire diary asking for her supporters to please state their reasons for supporting her- the comment section was a disaster of abuse and denial. Not one policy reason. There were tons of comments and only one stood out as being positive. Commenter said it was a 'heart' decision. That sounds about right. There was no support for her policies, in fact they didn't know much about her policies. They mentioned her 'experience' but also couldn't elaborate on that.

I talked to 2 Hillary supporters recently. The first one said it was "her turn." When I asked what that meant, the person stated that since Barack got to go first, Hillary should be next. Also the supporter gleefully stated that I would never get to see those transcripts. (I didn't even mention the Goldman-Sachs stuff, but I know he saw my Bernie bumper sticker.)
The second supporter said she liked Bernie's ideas, but there was no way to pay for them. Additionally, "Hillary has been out there taking abuse from Republicans for decades." I asked her how she felt about Hillary receiving all that $$ from speeches. No answer was provided. I asked how much money does one need? 100 Million? 150 Million? These people were in the 55-75 age range.

Wow, I love Bernie Sanders. First off, he can do the Math and explain the numbers in their meaning better than any pundit or media person. He just comes down to the bones and knuckles and knows what the number facts are.

Second off, he clearly has shown how the Super Delegates are allowed to manipulate the vote of the people by means of their pledges, some of them have made before Sanders even started his campaign. Who do they think they are? An empress' club member, to which you have to pay your membership fees upfront for good to be accepted and stay in power?

So, to me it would only make sense, to not only HOPING that the Super Delegate turn inside themselves and consider what they are doing in pre-determining the outcome of the elections against their constituents vote, but sternly demand them to be fair to the people, they are representing.

I think activists should organize to "hold the feet of their state's super delegates" to the fire. The differences between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are deep and wide enough, that the vote of the people should not only be considered, but demanded. Fighting against the whole Super Delegate business in these elections, but all future upcoming election should become a moral mandate to all voters. It's an outlandish election feature and whatever the reason your Forefathers had to implement this system, it's time to throw it out. This is dinosaurish democracy.

Down with the establishment Super Delegates. That would definitely my slogan.

And yes, Sanders is a great thinker, a straight forward talker and not willing to let himself being manipulated. Thank God. So help him make your state's Super Delegates, who are by no means "Super" but rather bought and bribed and have sold out their ethical conscience, get a spine and a moral conscience.

Sigh, why do I always seem more upset about certain things as most of you?

I've read exactly four reasons her supporters give to vote for Hill: 1. She's a wooooman. 2. Equal Pay - Lily Ledbetter 3. Children, CHIP. 4. Her critics have been lying about her for thirty years. All that "stuff" is drummed up by witch-hunting Republicans. At least they got that one right, the part about the witch.

After reading smear after smear about Bernie on the WaPo and elsewhere, by the very same trolls or supporters (hard to tell) who insist that Bernistas HAVE to vote for Hillary or we're doomed, I've concluded that they are a rather nasty, entitled, bunch of red-meat-for-breakfast capitalists who are proud that their gal has the balls to kill foreigners and get $millions from corporations. They are so smug and closed-minded, they don't even know that hurling insults will get them zero.

As has been quoted elsewhere:

When I go to the grocery store and see a choice between crap cereal and shit cereal, I'm not buying cereal. It's not my problem, it's the cereal makers' problem.
— Daily Kos: Puddytat on low voter turnout, 2015

Dear Superdelegates and Delegates:

If you want me to vote for a progressive Democrat who wants what's best for We the People, one whose proposals are in the tradition of the best policies of FDR, not in the tradition of DINOs and Rethuglican Lite candidates who take bribes from big business, banks, Wall Street, etc., you will have to nominate, endorse, and help elect a progressive Democrat who wants what's best for We the People, one whose proposals are in the tradition of the best policies of FDR... like Bernie Sanders. (Edit: And how about we elect senators and representatives who can help Bernie pass the things he has proposed, things that would benefit We the People, this country, and this planet?)

I will never ever vote for Hillary Clinton, no matter what. Period. End of discussion. If that dooms us to a president Drumpf (or whomever the Rs pick), that's on the nationwide Dem delegates (who were appointed to endorse Hillary even if Bernie won the popular vote in the primaries and caucuses - how rude!) and superdelegates who have endorsed Hillary..., not me, not the other people who will never, ever vote for Hillary under any circumstances whatsoever. Check the head-to-head polls, and the ONLY candidate who can win over ANY of the Rethuglicans, often by large two-digit margins, is Bernie. I'm voting with the majority who appreciate a candidate whose platform is what's best for We the People, which means I'm voting for Bernie Sanders.

Democratic superdelegates and delegates need to re-think their endorsements and, for once, do what's best for We the People. The last 25 years have most assuredly not been good for We the People. We desperately need a change, and those who know how to think for ourselves and also want what's best for We the People are voting for Bernie.

Yes, as a first-year Baby Boomer, a Feminist, a grandmother and a new great-grandmother, I would love to vote for a woman before I die sometime in the next 30 years. That woman will just never, ever be Hillary Clinton. Issues before gender. If all it took to vote for a person with two X chromosomes, we could have gone with VP candidates like the Tundra Tramp, the Rs could have voted for Carly Fiorina. It takes a LOT more than having two X chromosomes to vote for a woman. She, like the male candidates, must have good policy positions and proposals that benefit We the People, the environment, health, education, etc..., not corporations, TBTF banks, the religious rightwingnuts, Wall Street, TPP (which would bring us world-wide fascism!), military-industrial-mercenary complex, etc.

... and all the people who voted for her.

The future will play out as it does, of course. But if Hillary loses then nobody can say that we didn't tell them things like:

  • The left won't support her.
  • Her unfavorables are bad and getting worse day by day
  • She'll drive massive Republican turnout
  • Independents won't support her

In the end, if she loses, what that means is the folks who voted for her made a bad choice. Simply put, they failed to read the political climate of 2016 correctly and they paid the price. It certainly is not the fault of those who tried to warn them. I accept responsibility for my actions, not those of others.

Trump would make mincemeat out of Hillary. He knows all of her sins. Every last one of them. And he will use this knowledge in the most effective way possible.

I still suspect that the Republicans have a video of one of Hillary's Wall Street speeches.

I also suspect they have evidence that she traded favors while SOS for large donations to the Clinton Foundation.

And I suspect they can show that she is comingling gifts from foreign countries with her own campaign funds. All they need is a few good forensic accountants and not all of these guys work for the FBI. They will work for money and the Reps would pay good money for that information and evidence.

This is another important distinction between Clinton and Sanders. The Orange Haired one will make stuff up about both of them, but with Clinton he can save it for tactical moments.

With Sanders, that's all he's got, so he will look bad and start running out of material. Plus he seems to be under the delusion that Sanders supporters are a natural fit for him, so he might be more circumspect.

Besides laying out a cogent argument for his continuing candidancy and eventual nomination, I was really struck by the non-verbal aspects of this press conference. I have sound issues (I'm hypersensitive) and can't listen to audio, so rely on closed captioning. Watching Bernie's whole physical stance -- his demeanor, his focus, his intensity -- I'd say this was a performance of someone who's determined, dedicated, and about as far from throwing in the towel as is possible. In fact, it struck me as being quite presidential. . . . As someone above noted, it's quite possible this was designed, in part, as a "don't give up on me" performance for wavering supporters. If that's true, I think it's genuinely convincing and very encouraging. I hope any and all supporters whose fervor may be flagging as the last primaries play out get a chance to see it.

Thanks so much for posting it here!
